arpro2.dll is the reporting-engine component of legacy Data Dynamics ActiveReports, especially the Pro edition. If Windows says the file is missing, cannot load it, or cannot register it, repair the complete ActiveReports runtime from the original application installer or deployment package first. Do not copy a random DLL into System32. A standalone replacement can be the wrong release, architecture, or dependency set.
Registration is a separate step. Use regsvr32 only when the affected vendor application requires COM registration and you have the matching arpro2.dll and companion files. Then reopen the same report, print job, designer, or prebill that failed; a successful registration message alone does not prove the application is repaired.

What is arpro2.dll?
GrapeCity’s legacy ActiveReports deployment documentation identifies Arpro2.DLL as “The Reporting Engine.” A third-party file reference associates it with Data Dynamics ActiveReports, including an ActiveReports 2.0.0.1253 listing. In practical terms, it is an application component used by an older reporting runtime, not a general Windows system library.
That distinction determines the repair strategy. A program that was built around ActiveReports may expect arpro2.dll beside its executable, together with controls such as ARVIEW2.ocx and optional export modules. Replacing one file globally can leave the rest of the runtime missing or create a version conflict. The owning application’s installer is therefore the safest source.

The file may appear in software used alongside a game, launcher, accounting tool, or other utility, but the filename itself does not identify the program that needs it. Identify the application and its exact release before changing files or the registry.
Is arpro2.dll safe, or is it malware?
The name alone cannot establish whether a file is safe. A copy delivered with the original ActiveReports-based application is a legitimate reporting component; a copy downloaded from an unrelated DLL site has no trustworthy relationship to your installation and may be the wrong build or a modified file.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Check the folder in which the affected application normally installs its files and compare it with the vendor’s original deployment media. Keep the file with the application’s other ActiveReports components rather than moving it to a system directory. If security software quarantined the file, record the detection and ask the application vendor how to restore the signed or packaged runtime; do not disable protection simply to force a DLL into place.
There is no published prevalence or universal compatibility figure for this legacy component. Treat a “missing” message as an installation or deployment problem until the owning vendor confirms otherwise, not as proof that Windows itself is damaged.
What do the different arpro2.dll messages mean?
The wording and the moment of failure narrow the likely cause. Record the complete text, including any path, before attempting a repair.
| Message or symptom | What it usually points to | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| “arpro2.dll is missing” or “cannot find …arpro2.dll” | The application installation or deployment is incomplete, or the file was removed from the application folder. | Repair or reinstall the complete ActiveReports-based application from its original package. |
| “Cannot load Data Dynamics ActiveReports” | The reporting runtime, a companion control, or a version-matched dependency is unavailable. | Restore the entire runtime, including the components listed by the application’s deployment instructions. |
| “Cannot register arpro2.dll” | Registration is being attempted when it is not required, the command is not elevated, or the DLL and registration tool do not match in architecture or release. | Confirm that the vendor requires COM registration, then use the matching file and an elevated Command Prompt. |
| An access violation, crash, or failure only when opening, printing, or designing a report | The engine is reached only by that operation, or the report invokes a missing export/control module. | Retry after a complete runtime repair and note whether every report fails or only one. |
| Registration succeeds but the original operation still fails | Registration was only one part of the problem; the application may still have mismatched or missing companion files. | Recheck the installation package and escalate with the full version and path details. |
How do I identify the application and the exact error?
Do this before deleting, downloading, or registering anything. The same filename can be used by different deployments, and a repair for one release can break another.

- Write down when the error appears. Is it during application startup, when opening a report, while printing, in a report designer, or during a prebill operation? Note whether the failure occurs for every document or only one.
- Copy the complete wording. Preserve the drive letter, folder, punctuation, and any Windows error code. “Missing,” “cannot register,” and “access violation” require different decisions.
- Identify the owning program. Use the window title, shortcut target, installed-program entry, or the business/game utility that launched the report. Record its product and version as shown by the vendor.
- Check the expected installation folder. Look for
arpro2.dll,ARVIEW2.ocx, and any export modules supplied with that application. Do not assume that a copy inC:WindowsSystem32is the one the program uses. - Record Windows architecture. Note whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit and whether the application is a legacy 32-bit program. Registration tools and DLLs must match the component’s architecture.
How do I restore arpro2.dll correctly?
Restore the complete ActiveReports runtime, not just the named file. GrapeCity’s deployment list shows that the reporting engine is distributed with other ActiveReports components, and an incomplete set can produce a second error immediately after the first one is fixed.
Use the application’s repair option
- Close the affected program and any report designer or helper process it started. Save copies of reports, templates, and configuration files that the application stores outside its installer directory.
- Open the installed-programs control panel or Windows Settings’ installed-apps list. Select the application that reports the error and look for Repair, Change, or a vendor-specific maintenance option.
- Run the repair with the same release media or deployment source used for the original installation. Allow it to restore the engine and its companion controls rather than selecting only one DLL.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it. Some older controls remain loaded by a background process until a restart.
- Launch the application and repeat the operation that originally failed. If it works, keep the repaired installation intact; do not replace its files with a download from another source.
Rerun the original installer when repair is unavailable
If no repair entry exists, obtain the original vendor installer, network deployment package, or a replacement package from the application publisher. Confirm that it is for the same product edition and release before running it. A package for a different ActiveReports generation can install a file with the same name but incompatible interfaces.
Use the installer’s repair or reinstall workflow first. If you must uninstall, verify that you have the application’s installation media, license information, and backups before removing it. After reinstalling, check that the application folder contains the engine and the companion files expected by that deployment, including ARVIEW2.ocx where the vendor lists it.
Why copying one DLL is usually insufficient
ActiveReports deployments can include the reporting engine, a viewer control, and optional export DLLs. A report may open successfully but fail when it prints or exports because that later operation loads a companion module. Copying arpro2.dll alone can therefore change the first error without repairing the runtime.
When should I use regsvr32 for arpro2.dll?
Use regsvr32 only if the affected application’s documentation or support procedure explicitly requires COM registration. ComponentOne’s ActiveReports guidance describes registering the Pro file when the ActiveReports entry is absent in Visual Basic; that is a narrow deployment condition, not a universal Windows repair step.
Prepare the command safely
- Use the exact vendor-supplied file restored by the matching installer. Do not register a DLL downloaded separately.
- Open Command Prompt with Run as administrator. A normal prompt can fail because it cannot write the required registration data.
- Use a
regsvr32executable whose architecture matches the DLL and the application. On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit ActiveReports component requires the 32-bit registration tool specified by the vendor. - If the file is not in the current directory, supply its full path in quotation marks. Replace the example path below with the actual application path.
Unregister and register the engine and viewer
LexisNexis documents this sequence for a Juris prebill-printing problem involving the ActiveReports engine and viewer:

regsvr32 /u arpro2.dll
regsvr32 /u arview2.ocx
regsvr32 arpro2.dll
regsvr32 arview2.ocx
Run each command from the folder that contains the vendor files, or use full paths such as regsvr32 /u "C:path supplied by the vendorarpro2.dll". The /u commands remove an existing registration before the final two commands create a fresh one. If the vendor package does not include ARVIEW2.ocx, do not invent that step; follow the package’s own registration list.
How to interpret registration errors
- “The module failed to load.” The path may be wrong, the file may be missing, or a dependency may still be absent. Return to the complete installer rather than downloading a replacement.
- “The entry point DllRegisterServer was not found.” The file may not be a self-registering COM server, or you may be using the wrong release. Registration may not be required for that deployment.
- Architecture or compatibility errors. Recheck whether the application and DLL are 32-bit or 64-bit and use the matching registration tool named by the vendor.
- Access denied. Close the application, reopen an elevated Command Prompt, and ensure you are registering the file in its installed location.
Registration success is not a repair verdict. The LexisNexis procedure itself describes the action as a workaround rather than a fix, so continue to the application-level test below.
How do I verify that the repair worked?
Verification must reproduce the original failure, not merely display a successful regsvr32 dialog.
- Start the affected ActiveReports-based application normally.
- Open the same report, form, designer project, or prebill that produced the error.
- Repeat the operation that failed, such as loading, previewing, printing, or exporting.
- Test a second document if the original failure involved only one report. Record whether the problem is global or document-specific.
- Close and reopen the program once more. If the error returns only after a restart, note that behavior for support.
Solvusoft’s troubleshooting guidance likewise recommends loading ActiveReports to see whether the message remains. A successful test demonstrates that this particular application path can load the repaired runtime; it does not certify every program that might contain a file with the same name.
What should I do if arpro2.dll still fails?
Stop replacing files and gather a reproducible support record. Legacy deployments often depend on a precise combination of engine, viewer, and export modules, so the publisher may need to repair the complete runtime rather than issue another copy of the DLL.
Prepare these details
- The owning application’s name, edition, and version.
- The Windows edition and architecture.
- The full error text and the exact action that triggers it.
- The complete path where the application expects
arpro2.dll. - Whether the file came from the original installer, a deployment share, or another source.
- Whether
ARVIEW2.ocxand any export modules are present beside the engine. - Whether the failure affects every report or only one report, print job, or prebill.
- Which repair or registration commands you ran and the messages they returned.
Ask for a runtime-level solution
Tell the application vendor that the failure involves the legacy Data Dynamics ActiveReports runtime and ask which exact package and architecture it supports. GrapeCity’s deployment documentation indicates that the engine is one part of a larger distribution, so support may instruct you to redeploy the whole set, restore a specific release, or migrate the application away from an obsolete runtime.

Do not treat a registry cleaner, an arbitrary DLL repository, or a “one-click” repair claim as a substitute for the vendor package. No published repair-success percentage or universal modern-Windows compatibility guarantee establishes that any single method fixes every arpro2.dll case.
Can I download arpro2.dll by itself?
That is the wrong first move. A standalone file can have a different ActiveReports release, architecture, registration model, or dependency set, and placing it in a Windows system folder can leave the application using another copy anyway.
Use the original application installer or deployment package, and preserve the folder structure expected by that package. If the publisher supplies a separate runtime redistributable, obtain that exact package rather than a loose DLL.
Why does only one report or prebill fail?
Different report actions can load different parts of the runtime. A prebill or export path may invoke the viewer or an optional export module even when ordinary report viewing works.
Test a known-good document and record the failing document’s name, data source, and action. That comparison helps support distinguish a damaged runtime from a report-specific problem without changing system files unnecessarily.
Does arpro2.dll belong to Windows?
No. It is associated with the legacy Data Dynamics ActiveReports application runtime, not a standard Windows component. Windows repair utilities or a fresh Windows installation should not be your first response to an application-specific missing-DLL message.

The program that installed the file owns the correct version and deployment rules. Keep that program’s installer and version information available if the runtime must be restored again.
Can I copy arpro2.dll from another computer?
Only an identical, properly licensed application deployment should be considered, and even then a single copied file may not match the destination’s viewer or export modules. A different machine can have a different ActiveReports release, architecture, or registration state.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can arpro2.dll be installed in C:WindowsSystem32?
Usually not. ActiveReports applications commonly look for their private runtime beside the program files, and a System32 copy can be ignored while creating a second, mismatched version. Restore the location and file set defined by the owning application instead.
Why does regsvr32 report that the entry point is missing?
That message can mean the DLL is not designed for self-registration or that the file and registration tool do not match. Confirm the vendor’s registration requirement and architecture before trying another command; repeated registration attempts will not add a missing COM entry point.

Not necessarily. Because arpro2.dll is an application runtime component, reinstalling Windows can leave the same incomplete or incompatible application package in place. Repair the ActiveReports-based program first and involve its publisher if the runtime still cannot load.
Do I need a separate ActiveReports license to replace the file?
Licensing and redistribution rights depend on the application that embedded ActiveReports and on its vendor’s deployment terms. Use the installer or runtime package supplied with that product, and ask its publisher whether a legacy redistributable is still supported.
