First identify whether “lag” means choppy graphics on your PC or a delay in the multiplayer match. If the game looks stuttery even in single-player, start with local performance checks. If players are waiting at the end of a turn, disconnecting, or seeing a desync, investigate the session and the other players too. A long end-of-turn wait alone does not prove a network problem: Civilization VI uses simultaneous turns, and the turn ends when everyone has entered their orders.
Work out what kind of lag you have
Compare the same PC in single-player and multiplayer, and ask whether everyone is waiting or just one person. This is a way to narrow down the symptom, not a guarantee of its cause.

The manual explains that players act at the same time and that a turn timer can limit how long they have to enter orders. A timer changes the allowed order-entry time; it is not established as a network-performance fix.

Steam lists these Windows requirements for Civilization VI. They are storefront specifications, not a promise of smooth late-game or multiplayer performance.

Verify the game files on Steam
2K recommends checking local Steam game files against the cloud version and allowing Steam to repair errors it finds. Follow the current Steam client’s file-verification controls for Civilization VI; the exact menu labels can vary with client updates. Try the supported graphics and compatibility checks
Update graphics drivers
2K notes that outdated graphics drivers can cause gameplay and stability issues. If the problem is visual stutter or poor responsiveness, update the driver for your graphics hardware and then compare performance again. Isolate mods and background software
Test without user-created mods
Temporarily disable user-created mods and try to reproduce the issue. 2K says mods are not tested for compatibility, can complicate troubleshooting, and may break after a patch. Check VPNs, security software, and overlays one at a time
2K lists VPNs, firewall or security applications, antivirus software, and overlays among software that may interfere with Steam or a title. Test one application or setting at a time so you can tell whether it changes the symptom. Prefer an appropriate game exception or a brief, controlled test; leaving security protection disabled is not a normal fix. Check the whole multiplayer group
Confirm that everyone has a compatible game version and note whether the match includes different platforms. Steam warns that Mac and PC can become out of sync during updates or patches, so version and platform matching is worth checking in cross-platform groups. Ask the group whether everyone experiences the delay or only one player, and whether the same issue occurs in another match. Record those observations before changing more settings. Avoid treating a turn timer as network optimization, or assuming that buying a router, changing ports, disabling IPv6, lowering graphics settings, or editing CPU affinity is an official fix; the cited guidance does not establish those as reliable Civ VI remedies.

What to send support if the issue continues
Make a concise record while the problem is reproducible. 2K’s bug-report guidance asks for the game mode and the actions immediately preceding the issue; it also points Windows users to DXDiag and MSInfo, and says a save file can help for some games. 2K bug-report guidance
