Try the symptom-matched steps below before reinstalling the launcher; Epic warns that reinstalling it removes games installed through it.
Start with the checks that apply to any error
- Check Epic’s Server Status. If the launcher is affected by an outage or system-wide failure, Epic Games Store Support says the issue may be fixed when service returns.
- Update the launcher and check system requirements. Epic recommends using the current launcher and confirming that the computer meets its listed requirements. See Epic’s general launcher troubleshooting guidance.
- Write down the full message or code. In particular, II-E1003 and IS-0003 have different documented causes and steps. Match your error below rather than repeatedly trying an unrelated fix.
Download fails with II-E1003
Epic describes II-E1003 as the launcher being unable to download necessary game files for installation. Follow its II-E1003 troubleshooting steps in order: update the launcher, verify the game files, clear the launcher cache, and change DNS if the problem continues.

Epic also lists reinstalling the launcher as a possible step, but treat it as a last resort: Epic says this removes games installed through the launcher. Make sure you understand that consequence before proceeding.
Install or update fails with IS-0003
IS-0003 is associated with the launcher failing to create a directory while installing or updating a game. Epic’s IS-0003 guidance recommends clearing the launcher webcache, restarting the computer, then running the launcher as administrator and trying again. If the error remains, note whether it occurs during installation or an update and consult the linked support steps rather than assuming it is a download-speed issue.

Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache
Cache clearing targets temporary launcher data, not the installed game files. Quit the launcher fully before removing the cache folder. Epic’s cache instructions distinguish the paths by operating system.
Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher from the system tray so it is no longer running.
- Press Windows+R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. Delete thewebcachefolder and, if present,webcache_4147andwebcache_4430. - Relaunch Epic Games Launcher. It will rebuild its cache.
Mac
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, open
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Remove the
webcachefolder, empty Trash, and relaunch the launcher.
Verify a game’s files
Use Verify when a game download or installation may have left damaged or incomplete local files. In the Epic launcher, open Library, find the game, select its three-dot menu, choose Manage, then select Verify. Wait for validation to finish. Epic says this checks for damaged or corrupted files and replaces files that differ; it does not affect saved data. See Epic’s Verify instructions.

Downloads are unusually slow
Epic’s slow-download guidance covers service, connection, launcher settings, and network configuration. Try the checks that fit your setup:

- Turn off the launcher’s download-speed limit if it is enabled.
- If you can connect your computer to the router, test with wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix; a cable is only relevant if you need one to make that wired test.
- If possible, try another internet connection to see whether the slowdown is specific to your network.
- Clear the device or launcher cache using the relevant instructions above.
- Check that Epic’s required domains are allowed by your network or security configuration, and review any proxy settings. Epic recommends disabling proxy servers when troubleshooting this symptom.
- Flush DNS or try a public DNS service if name-resolution problems are suspected. Follow Epic’s linked instructions for the supported steps.
The launcher installer fails on Windows
A launcher installation failure is different from a game that fails to install inside an already working launcher. Epic’s Windows installer guidance includes these options:

- Confirm that your account has read and write permission for the selected installation path.
- Run the downloaded MSI from an administrator Command Prompt using
msiexec /ifollowed by the MSI file’s path. - Try installing the launcher through the Microsoft Store.
- Install available Windows updates and try setup again.
Epic notes that these instructions were written for Windows 10, so labels or steps may differ in other Windows versions. If antivirus interference is identified as the cause, Epic’s guidance describes disabling it temporarily for installation and turning it back on afterward; do not leave protection off as a general fix.
A game stays on “Verifying” or “Installing”
If the launcher remains indefinitely on “Verifying” or “Installing,” check available disk space. The game may need more free space while files are decompressed than the download size shown by the launcher suggests. Epic’s guidance for an infinite Verifying or Installing status identifies storage as a check for this symptom.

The download estimate is much larger than expected
Epic says a communications error can make displayed file sizes appear larger than expected. For that specific mismatch, it recommends verifying the game files and clearing the launcher cache. Use the Verify and cache steps above; see Epic’s explanation of oversized download estimates.

Not every Epic launcher issue is a download or installation error. For example, Epic’s LS-0013 guidance is for a game that will not launch; it includes launch-focused checks such as operating-system updates, security or firewall exceptions, and DNS flushing.
