“0x800700” is only an incomplete error prefix. You need the full hexadecimal code, the exact message, the application involved, and whether Windows is opening a camera, playing a local file, streaming a URL, or installing an update. The most common access-denied completion is 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED). For webcam capture, it usually means Windows camera privacy access is disabled or another application is holding the camera. - Copy the complete error. Use a screenshot or transcribe the full code and message from the dialog, player log, or update history.
- Record the application. Note whether the message comes from Camera, a video-chat or game application, Windows Media Player, a browser, or Windows Update.
- Identify the source. Is Windows opening a camera, reading a local file, reading a playlist/library entry, opening a URL, or installing system components?

How do I fix a webcam or camera that says access denied?
When the camera is the failing component, start with Windows privacy controls. Microsoft documents that Windows camera-capture APIs return E_ACCESSDENIED when the user has disabled camera access in the camera privacy settings.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & security > Camera.
- Turn on Camera access.

Refresh the Media Player library
If only playlists or library entries fail, confirm that the folder containing the media is included in Media Player’s library and refresh the library.
