If DMZ matchmaking is not working, first check whether Call of Duty or your platform is reporting an outage. If services appear available, troubleshoot your own connection in stages: test wired Ethernet and reduce competing network traffic before changing router settings. Activision’s published guidance is for Warzone connectivity generally, not a DMZ-specific support page, so treat its router steps as general troubleshooting rather than a guaranteed fix for a particular DMZ error.
DMZ matchmaking not working? Check service status first
Before changing your router, check the Call of Duty Online Services status page for the service indicator and any posted alerts. Activision’s Warzone connection guide says an indicator that is not green or a service alert can point to a service-side problem. The Online Services page also links to network-status checks for supported platforms; check the one you play on as well.
Status pages are live and can change. If there is an outage or maintenance alert, wait for service to recover before trying local router changes. That makes it easier to tell whether the problem is still on your connection.
DMZ stuck searching for a match? Test your local connection
If Call of Duty and your platform appear available, try these low-risk checks before adjusting router configuration. Activision’s connection tips include restarting the router and device and limiting bandwidth-heavy applications; its Warzone guide recommends a wired connection for online gameplay.
#1 Best Overall
- Blazing-fast WiFi 7 boosts tri-band throughput up to 12000 Mbps with 320 MHz channels of 6 GHz band, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 4K-QAM
- Powerful wired network capacity of up to 20G with one 2.5G WAN port and seven 2.5G LAN ports.
- High-performance quad-core 2.0GHz CPU with robust cooling, 2GB RAM and eight internal antennas providing up to 3000 sq. ft. of range.
- Smart Home Master makes it easy to set up functional subnetwork (up to 3 SSIDs) for IoT devices and VPNs
- ROG-exclusive Gaming Network streamlines Triple-Level Game Acceleration setup and connections through convenient SSIDs
- Restart your router and gaming device. After they reconnect, try matchmaking again.
- Try wired Ethernet if available. Activision Support states: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A cable is optional if you currently use Wi-Fi; it can help you test whether the wireless link is contributing to the problem, but it cannot fix a service outage.
- Pause competing traffic while testing. Stop large downloads, streams, or other bandwidth-heavy applications on your network, then try matchmaking again.
DMZ connection problems: Try router settings one at a time
If the service check and local tests have not helped, Activision’s Warzone guide describes a staged router test. Router menus vary by manufacturer, so follow your router’s documentation rather than assuming a menu label or entering port numbers from an unrelated game or platform. Change one setting at a time and retest DMZ after each step; you may not need to perform every test.
- Test UPnP. Turn off any existing port forwarding and enable UPnP, then test matchmaking.
- Test manual port forwarding. If the problem remains, turn off UPnP, enable port forwarding, assign a static IP address to the console, and test again. Activision’s general guidance does not establish a DMZ-specific port list, so use only the port information applicable to your platform from current official guidance.
- Use the router DMZ only as a temporary test. If the issue remains, turn off port forwarding and assign the console’s static IP to the router DMZ, then test. Activision specifically says to remove the static IP from the DMZ after testing. Do not leave the console assigned to the DMZ as a permanent fix.
These are troubleshooting options, not a universal best configuration. If a change makes matters worse or you are unsure how to restore the previous setting, undo that change using the router’s instructions before proceeding.

When to contact your ISP or network administrator
If the service pages show no problem and the connection tests do not resolve the issue, Activision’s guidance is to contact your internet service provider. If you play on a school, corporate, or other shared network, ask its network administrator for help; you may not have permission to change the network settings needed for testing.
