For Dragon’s Dogma 2 crashes, stuttering, or low FPS on PC, start by checking your hardware against the current requirements, then update Windows and your graphics driver, verify the game files in Steam, and temporarily close background apps and overlays. Work through the checks below one at a time and retest; they are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes for every system.
Check whether your PC meets the current requirements
CAPCOM’s Steam listing, accessed October 9, 2026, gives these requirements and performance targets for the PC version. They are store-listed targets, not a promise that every area or configuration will maintain a fixed frame rate.

The listing warns for both tiers: “Frame rate may drop when the processing load is high.” It also says an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 is required to support ray tracing. These figures come from the live Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam listing, not independent benchmark testing.

If your PC is below minimum, Capcom warns the game may run poorly or may not run. If it meets minimum but falls short of recommended, lower graphics settings first. Laptop and other mobile GPUs can perform much worse than desktop GPUs with nominally similar names, so compare the exact hardware rather than relying on the model family alone. For a compatible system that still struggles, continue through the software checks before considering hardware changes.

Work through the main troubleshooting checks
Change one item at a time where practical so you can tell whether it affects the problem. Capcom’s Steam troubleshooting guide, dated September 4, 2025, presents these as checks rather than diagnoses for a specific PC.
1. Update Windows and your graphics driver
Install available Windows updates and the current driver for your graphics card from its manufacturer. Restart the PC after installing the graphics driver. If problems continue, Capcom suggests trying a clean driver installation. Driver-cleanup utilities are optional third-party tools, not a required Capcom step.

2. Verify the game files in Steam
In Steam, open your Library, right-click Dragon’s Dogma 2, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check before launching the game again.

Close resource-heavy applications, recording software, and performance overlays, then test the game. Capcom notes that applications consuming system resources—including recording apps and performance overlays—can compromise performance and stability. If closing one changes the symptoms, re-enable apps individually to identify a conflict.

4. Make sure the game uses the intended GPU
On a PC with integrated and discrete graphics, confirm that Windows assigns the game to the high-performance GPU. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select or add the game, choose Options, then select High performance and save. Restart the game and check whether performance changes. Capcom notes that some high-end integrated and laptop discrete GPUs may work but are not tested or officially supported.
5. Review graphics-driver and Windows power settings
Check the graphics driver’s settings and the computer’s power mode to ensure they are not limiting performance. If you have changed driver settings previously and are unsure what they do, reset them to their defaults and retest. The exact controls vary by PC and graphics hardware.

6. Remove the game’s shader cache files only if present
Capcom says a damaged game shader cache can cause graphical problems. In the installation folder containing the game executable, look for files named shader.cache or shader.cache2 and delete only those named files if they are present. Do not delete other game files. For a GPU-driver-generated shader cache, follow the graphics-card manufacturer’s instructions instead.
7. Check security software and administrator access
Security software can sometimes block a game executable, causing launch problems or frame drops. If you suspect that is happening, consult your security software’s instructions for adding the game folder or files to its exclusions; avoid disabling protection broadly. Capcom also suggests trying Steam and the game with administrator privileges.

8. Check compatibility, display, DirectX, ventilation, and codecs
Capcom’s further checks include Windows compatibility settings, display settings, DirectX, ventilation, and codecs. Confirm that the PC is not overheating or obstructed, and try restarting the game after changing graphics settings. These checks can help identify configuration or stability issues, but the source does not identify any one of them as a universal cause.

If the game has low FPS or stutters
- Compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, and Windows version with the current Steam requirements.
- If your PC is below the recommended tier, reduce graphics settings and use the store-listed Prioritize Performance option.
- Close background applications and overlays, confirm the game is using the intended GPU, and review power settings.
- Keep the Steam listing’s high-processing-load warning in mind: its published targets do not guarantee the same frame rate in every scene.
If the game crashes or will not launch
- Update Windows and the graphics driver, then verify the Steam game files.
- Check whether security software is blocking the executable and try administrator access if appropriate.
- Review DirectX and compatibility settings, then test without resource-heavy background apps or overlays.
- If the crash began after a settings change, restore the relevant driver or game setting and restart the game.
Send useful details to Capcom if the problem remains
If the troubleshooting checks do not resolve visual or audio issues or crashes, contact Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 support category. Include your PC specifications, Windows version, graphics-driver version, the exact error text or crash behavior, and the steps you have already tried. This gives support concrete information to investigate.
