Start by protecting every local save you can find. An EA app cloud-save warning can indicate an account or connection problem, an app-cache problem, or a game that does not automatically transfer saves between systems. Those causes need different fixes. Copy any intact save folder before launching the game again, choosing a cloud-versus-local replacement, reinstalling the app, or deleting files.
For Mass Effect Legendary Edition, available EA guidance says saves are stored locally and do not automatically move between systems; a manual PC-to-PC copy may be possible. For Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dragon Age Keep imports story choices into a new game but is not a backup of an active campaign save. Use the sequence below to separate app symptoms from title-specific save behavior, then escalate to EA Help if the local save is gone and the app cannot retrieve it.

What should I do first when the EA app reports a cloud-save conflict?
Stop making changes until you have a separate copy of any local saves. A sync prompt can offer to replace a newer file with an older one, and the wording does not by itself tell you which copy is safest. Preserve the files first, then investigate the account, service, app, and game-specific possibilities.
1. Close the game and make a separate backup
- Exit the game normally if it is running. If it is frozen, close it through the operating system rather than repeatedly relaunching it.
- Find the local save directory for the affected title. For Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Windows, an EA community-manager response identifies the default location as
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect Legendary Edition > Save. - Copy the entire save folder to a different location, such as another folder on the computer. A USB flash drive or other external storage can provide a second manual copy, but it is optional and does not repair cloud synchronization.
- If the normal Documents folder is empty, check the actual Documents location used by Windows and any backup or cloud-backed Documents location. Documents can be redirected, so do not assume that the path displayed in a guide is the path used by your account.
- Give the copy a clear date and time, and do not edit or overwrite it while testing.
Do not treat a manually copied folder as proof that the EA app has uploaded those files. It is a safety copy that lets you recover from a bad replacement choice or a failed troubleshooting attempt.

2. Preserve both sides of a replacement prompt
If the EA app offers choices such as a local save and a cloud save, make a copy of the local folder before selecting either option. If the app exposes the dates or timestamps of the two versions, use the known newer, intact save; the available guidance does not define one universal conflict-resolution rule for every EA title, launcher, or platform.
How can I tell whether this is an EA app problem or a game save limitation?
Use the symptom, not the word “cloud,” as your first clue. Offline-mode, authentication, library, download, and update errors point toward the app, account, network, or EA services. A save that exists on one computer but not another can instead reflect a title that stores progress locally and does not support automatic transfer.

| Observed situation | Most useful first check | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| The app is stuck in offline mode, will not update, or cannot download a game | Check EA service status and connection, then use the EA app’s cache-recovery procedure | That a deleted local save will be restored |
| The game launches but a campaign is missing on another PC | Compare the signed-in EA Account and inspect the original computer’s local save folder | That EA cloud synchronization is available for that title or edition |
| A cloud/local replacement prompt appears | Back up both visible copies before choosing; prefer the known newer intact file | That the displayed copy is complete or that every game uses the same conflict rules |
| The save is absent locally and the app does not retrieve it | Record the details and contact EA Help | That support can definitely restore a vanished local file |
EA’s account information explains that account data, including saves and achievements, is associated with the EA Account. That relationship matters when you change computers or launchers, but it does not establish identical save-transfer behavior for every EA game.
How do I verify the EA Account, service status, and network?
Before changing files, make sure the app is using the account that owns the game and is expected to contain its history. Then rule out an EA service or connection incident. These checks are quick and prevent an app-side authentication failure from being mistaken for permanent save loss.

Confirm the account
- Open the EA app account menu and note the signed-in email or account identifier.
- Confirm that this is the EA Account used to purchase or activate the affected game and to play it previously.
- Do not assume that moving a game to another EA Account moves its saves or achievements. EA states that this account data remains associated with the original account.
- If you use more than one storefront or launcher, record which one starts the game. Different launch paths can make an account mismatch look like a missing cloud save.
Check service and connection conditions
- Check EA’s service-status information when the app reports an authentication, network, or connection error.
- Verify that the computer has a working internet connection and that the EA app is not deliberately in offline mode.
- Retry only after the service or connection issue is resolved. A connection failure can coexist with a title that has no cross-device save support, so a successful sign-in is not proof that a missing campaign will appear.
Record the exact error text before dismissing it. “Unable to authenticate,” “offline,” and “cloud save conflict” describe different troubleshooting branches even when they appear during the same launch.
How do I clear the EA app cache safely?
Clearing the cache is an app-side remedy for symptoms such as the EA app being stuck in offline mode, failing to update itself, mishandling downloads, or not showing games in the Library. EA’s current cache guidance also cautions that cache clearing cannot fix an outage. It is not documented as a procedure for recovering a deleted local save.

- Open the EA app.
- Open the main menu and choose Help.
- Select App Recovery.
- Choose the cache-clearing option and allow the app to restart.
- Sign in again if requested, then check whether the original app symptom has changed.
macOS
- Open the EA app.
- Use the Help menu.
- Open App Recovery.
- Run the cache-clearing action and let the app relaunch.
- Check the account, Library, and connection state before attempting the game.
Menu labels can change as EA updates the client. If the app is unavailable because EA services are down, cache recovery will not bypass that outage. Keep the manual save copy you made earlier; cache clearing should not be presented as a substitute for it.
Does Mass Effect Legendary Edition support automatic save transfer?
Available guidance from an EA community manager says that Mass Effect Legendary Edition saves are stored locally and do not automatically transfer between systems. The same response says manually moving the save folder between PCs may be possible and identifies the default Windows folder as Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect Legendary Edition > Save.

Moving a save between Windows PCs
- On the original PC, close the game and copy the complete
Savefolder to separate storage. - On the destination PC, install and launch the same game edition once, then exit. This can create the expected folder structure; do not overwrite a newer destination save without preserving it first.
- Locate the destination’s
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect Legendary Edition > Savepath, taking account of a redirected or cloud-backed Documents folder. - Keep a backup of any destination files, then place the copied saves into the corresponding folder.
- Launch the game and check the load list. If the files do not appear, stop replacing folders and keep both backups for support.
This is a manual file-transfer approach, not confirmation that EA’s cloud service will synchronize the files afterward. The community-manager response is an older forum answer, so scope it to the edition and PC-to-PC situation it describes. It does not establish current support for every Mass Effect game, operating system, storefront, or platform.
What about a console or another platform?
The cited response said cross-platform transfer to Xbox was not planned at the time of that answer. That historical statement should not be expanded into a promise or prohibition for every current platform combination. The available guidance specifically supports only the possibility of manual movement between PCs; it does not promise PC-to-console portability or a universal cross-save feature.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan Dragon Age Keep restore a missing Dragon Age: Inquisition save?
No. The official Dragon Age: Inquisition manual describes Dragon Age Keep as a tool for setting or importing prior-game story choices into a new Inquisition game. Those choices create a starting world state; they are not the active campaign’s save files and cannot be treated as a backup of your current progress.
Keep the two data types separate
- Dragon Age Keep data: selected story decisions and world-state choices imported when beginning an Inquisition game.
- Inquisition save data: the local files that represent your ongoing character, quests, inventory, and campaign progress.
EA forum discussions include user reports about local save folders and cloud mismatches, but those reports involve different launchers, accounts, and dates and are not a definitive current recovery procedure. Do not infer that an empty local folder guarantees that a cloud copy will return, and do not use Keep as a substitute for backing up the campaign folder.

What should I do when the app asks me to choose a local or cloud save?
Make the choice only after preserving both versions. The safest decision is normally the known newer, intact copy, but the sources available here do not define a universal rule for identifying or merging versions across EA titles.
Before choosing
- Capture the prompt or write down the displayed dates, device names, and filenames.
- Copy the entire local save directory to a separate location.
- If a cloud copy can be downloaded or exposed as a file, preserve that version separately as well.
- Do not launch the game repeatedly while undecided; a new autosave can replace the version you are trying to protect.
After choosing
Launch once and inspect the in-game load list. If the expected campaign is missing, exit without creating new progress, retain every backup, and record which option you selected. That record gives EA Help a precise sequence to investigate.

If the local file is gone and the EA app does not retrieve it, the reviewed guidance does not establish a guaranteed recovery route. Contact EA Help rather than repeatedly clearing caches, reinstalling, or selecting replacement options that could overwrite the remaining copy.
Information to include
- The exact game and edition, such as Mass Effect Legendary Edition or Dragon Age: Inquisition.
- The platform, operating system, and storefront or launcher used to start the game.
- The EA Account identifier or email used to sign in, without sharing your password.
- Whether any local save folders remain and where you found them.
- Recent changes, such as a new computer, reinstall, account change, app update, or Documents-folder redirection.
- The exact cloud-save, authentication, network, or sync message and the time it appeared.
- Which local or cloud option, if any, you selected after making your backup.
Keep the original backup untouched while support investigates. EA Help may be able to explain an account or client issue, but the available sources do not confirm that support can restore a save after its local copy has disappeared.

How can I prevent the next EA save-sync incident?
For games whose saves are local or whose transfer behavior is unclear, make a manual copy at meaningful milestones rather than relying on an assumed cloud feature.
- Copy the complete save directory before moving to another computer or changing the EA Account used by the client.
- Keep at least one copy outside the active Documents folder so a reinstall, redirection, or accidental replacement does not affect every copy.
- Label backups with the game edition, computer, and date.
- Before accepting a cloud/local conflict, preserve both versions and note which one is newer.
- For Dragon Age: Inquisition, keep any desired Keep world-state choices documented separately from the active campaign files.
These measures protect files you can access; they do not convert a title with local saves into a guaranteed cross-device cloud-save system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will reinstalling the EA app bring back a missing campaign save?
Not on the evidence available here. Reinstalling changes the client, while a game’s local save files may remain in a Documents location or may already be gone; preserve and search those files before reinstalling, and do not treat a reinstall as a recovery method.
Can I move a Mass Effect Legendary Edition save from PC to console?
The cited EA forum guidance describes possible manual movement between PCs only. It does not promise PC-to-console portability, and its statement about Xbox was that cross-platform transfer was not planned at the time of that older response.
Is Dragon Age Keep an online backup of my Inquisition campaign?
No. Keep stores or imports prior-game story choices used to establish a new world state. It does not contain the live character, quest, inventory, and progress data from an active Inquisition save.
Does an empty local save folder mean my cloud copy is safe?
No. An empty folder does not establish that the EA app has a retrievable cloud version. Preserve any other copies, avoid creating replacement saves, and ask EA Help to assess the account and sync details.
