Error 0x000013D0 is Windows’ ERROR_CLUSTER_NODE_NOT_READY status (decimal 5072): the cluster node is not ready to perform the requested operation. It normally belongs to a Windows Failover Cluster action, such as bringing a clustered role online, moving a role, joining a node, or querying cluster state. Start by identifying the operation, then check the target node’s membership, online state, pause or drain status, and Cluster Service. If the message appeared in Windows Update or an installer instead, use the separate Windows Update repair path rather than treating it as proof of a cluster failure.
What does error 0x000013D0 mean?
Microsoft identifies 0x000013D0 (decimal 5072) as ERROR_CLUSTER_NODE_NOT_READY. Its description is “The cluster node is not ready to perform the requested operation.” The code is a Failover Clustering status, not a general Windows desktop error.

- Cluster action: record whether you were bringing a role or resource online, moving a role, joining a node, querying state, or performing another Failover Cluster operation.

How do I fix 0x000013D0 during a Failover Cluster operation?
For a genuine cluster operation, the first fix is to return the target node to a ready, active state. Use Failover Cluster Manager or the Microsoft cluster-management tooling appropriate to your environment.
1. Confirm the target node and operation
Identify which node the action targeted and whether the request was for a clustered role, resource, membership change, or status query. A node that is no longer active can return 0x000013D0, so confirm that the command or console action was aimed at the intended member.
2. Verify membership and online state
In the cluster management console, check that the node is joined to the intended cluster and is reported as online. A node that is paused, draining, shutting down, or otherwise inactive is not ready to accept every cluster operation. Do not force a role move or bring resources online until the node’s state reflects the action you want to perform.
3. Check the Cluster Service
Verify that the Windows Cluster Service is running on the affected node and that it has not stopped during the failed operation. If it is stopped, use your normal administrative procedure to restore the service, then recheck cluster membership and node status before retrying. A service restart is not a substitute for finding why the service stopped; capture the surrounding events first when the stop is unexpected.

These are diagnostic directions, not guaranteed causes of every 0x000013D0 occurrence. Use the event details to identify which condition actually happened on your node.
5. Correct the confirmed condition and retry once
After the node is online, active, and showing healthy membership, correct the event-identified problem and repeat the original operation. If the status returns, stop repeated retries, preserve the event details and the exact operation, and give them to the cluster administrator or Microsoft support. Repeated attempts while a node is still inactive can obscure the original failure and may trigger additional role transitions.
What if 0x000013D0 appeared in Windows Update or an installer?
Applications can surface Win32 error values outside the cluster interface. If you saw this code while downloading or installing an update, follow Microsoft’s Windows Update troubleshooting path first. These steps address update-cache or system-file problems; they do not prove that the underlying condition is a cluster-node failure.
1. Run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter
On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, find Windows Update, and select Run. On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, choose Windows Update, and run it. Apply any correction it reports, restart Windows, and check for updates again.

Use an administrator Command Prompt for the service commands:
- Run
net stop wuauservto stop the Windows Update service. - In File Explorer, open
C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionand delete the contents inside that folder. Leave the folder itself in place. - Return to the elevated Command Prompt and run
net start wuauserv. - Check that Windows is using automatic date and time synchronization, restart the computer, and try the update again.
You may need administrator approval to stop the service or remove the cached files. If files are in use, restart and repeat the sequence before moving to system-file repair.

3. Repair the component store and system files
In an elevated Command Prompt, run these commands in order and wait for each one to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealthsfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete, then check for the update again. DISM repairs the Windows component image used for servicing; System File Checker then checks protected system files against that repaired source. These commands are appropriate for an update or system-file problem, not a universal repair for a cluster node that is offline or inactive.

For a larger Windows upgrade or installation failure, remove nonessential external hardware before retrying, check Device Manager for reported problems, and review whether third-party security software is interfering with setup. Microsoft also recommends repairing disk errors when the symptoms indicate a storage problem, using a clean restart to limit startup interference, and repairing system files. Reconnect only the hardware needed for the installation after the upgrade succeeds.
What should I do if the error is accompanied by crashes or restarts?
Do not enter Safe Mode solely because the number is 0x000013D0. Use recovery steps when the computer is repeatedly crashing, restarting, or unable to remain stable long enough to complete the normal checks.
- Remove recently added hardware and restart.
- Try Windows Safe Mode to determine whether the instability persists with a limited set of drivers and services.
- In Device Manager, check for devices with reported problems and address those entries.
- Install current updates when Windows is stable enough to do so, and confirm that the system has adequate free disk space.
- Use System Restore when an appropriate restore point exists and the recent change is known to have preceded the crashes.
If the machine is a cluster node, coordinate recovery with the cluster administrator before removing hardware, restoring the system, or changing services. Taking a node offline without planning can affect clustered roles even when the local computer appears to be the source of the problem.

Does Windows 10 still receive fixes for this problem?
Microsoft says support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. Under the standard support model, free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided after that date. Before assuming that a new update will resolve the problem, verify which Windows 10 support and update options apply to the edition and device.
Windows 11 and Windows 10 can show the same Win32 value, but their current servicing status is different. The error’s meaning remains the same; the availability of future operating-system fixes depends on the support status of the installation.
When should I escalate 0x000013D0?
Escalate after the node is confirmed as active but the same cluster operation still returns the code, or when event records show repeated membership loss, service failures, or communication problems. Provide the exact operation, node name, timestamps, cluster state, and the relevant cluster and system events. For an update or installation branch, include the troubleshooter result, cache-reset outcome, DISM and SFC results, and the update or installer identifier.
That evidence lets an administrator or Microsoft support distinguish a node-readiness condition from an unrelated update-cache, system-file, storage, or startup problem.
