Windows 10: run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters, choose Windows Update, and select Run the troubleshooter.
- Apply any suggested repair, restart Windows, and return to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and record the complete result if the same code appears.

Do not repeatedly start the update while the computer is showing a different error or is low on storage. Close open applications, restart once, and run the appropriate troubleshooter again. Repair Windows system files when Setup guidance calls for it
Some installation failures require an elevated Command Prompt. Save your work first, then open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) from the Start menu. Run the repair commands recommended for your failure, waiting for each one to finish before running the next:

- On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Activation. On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Write down the device’s make, model, connection type, and the exact Windows or application screen that reports the code. Check Device Manager for a warning icon, but let the device manufacturer or the application provider interpret a code that their software produced. Disconnecting and reconnecting hardware is reasonable only after saving work and only when the device is not required for boot or installation.
