Write down the screen and action that produced the value before closing it. Use the matching branch below; do not assume the Device Manager procedure applies just because the message appeared on a Windows PC.

What should I do if the message is in Device Manager?
Use this branch only when you actually saw the code in Device Manager. Microsoft’s Device Manager article applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11 and directs you to the affected device’s status information.
- Open Device Manager from the Start menu.
- Expand the category containing the affected device and open its Properties.
- Read the complete text in Device status, and note the device name and category.
- Compare that text with Microsoft’s Error codes in Device Manager in Windows guidance.
- If the displayed value is not covered there, contact the hardware vendor or Microsoft Support rather than applying a code from a different device.

Identify the product being changed before changing Windows itself. Capture the installer name, version, update identifier if shown, and the point at which the operation stopped.
