Check the transaction log
For a servicing failure, inspect %Windir%LogsCBSCBS.log. Match entries to the exact failure time and preserve the surrounding lines instead of copying an unrelated warning. The log can show which package or file failed, but a code in the log may still belong to a component or installer rather than to the 0x008F1279 dialog.
Use the code shown in Update history
Open Windows Update’s update history and record the failure code attached to the specific update. Search or report that code with the update’s name and date. If the history lists a different number, that number is the useful starting point for Windows Update troubleshooting.
What should I do when the code appears beside a device or driver?

Inspect Device Manager

Handle upgrade-related hardware conflicts
If the message appeared while upgrading Windows, remove unnecessary external hardware and check Device Manager for yellow-exclamation devices.
