Error 0x009247D1 is not identified as a standard Windows 10 or Windows 11 activation, update, or blue-screen code. The correct fix depends on where you saw it. In an application or log, it may be a Win32 color value that decodes to RGB(209, 71, 146), or #D14792. In a browser warning that gives you a telephone number, it is much more likely to be a support scam than a Windows fault.
Do not download a “code fixer,” edit the registry, call a number in a pop-up, or grant remote access based on this value alone. First identify the window, program, or website that displayed it; then follow the matching procedure below.

What is error 0x009247D1?
Microsoft’s reviewed Windows activation guidance does not list 0x009247D1 as a recognized Windows 10 or Windows 11 activation error. It is also not established as a standard Windows Update code or a documented stop code. That means the hexadecimal text alone cannot tell you which component failed or which repair command to run.
The value has another documented interpretation. Win32 uses the 0x00bbggrr COLORREF format to specify an RGB color. Reading 0x009247D1 in that order gives the following bytes:

As a color, it is RGB(209, 71, 146), written in web notation as #D14792. That calculation does not prove that every occurrence is a color setting. An application, game, graphics tool, diagnostic log, or browser script could display the same characters for its own purpose, and a person can also mistype or misread a different code.
Is 0x009247D1 a virus or a real Windows error?
The code itself is not evidence of malware. The surrounding behavior is what matters. A browser page or window that demands payment, gives a phone number, threatens account loss, or asks for remote control matches the support-scam pattern described by Microsoft. Microsoft states that genuine error and warning messages never include a phone number.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA real blue screen of death (BSoD) is a fatal system error: Windows crashes, interaction stops, and the computer normally restarts or requires a reboot. Malware can imitate that appearance, disable ordinary interaction, and place a fake support number on the screen. A telephone number or payment demand therefore indicates a scam pattern, not proof that the displayed hexadecimal value is a Windows stop code.
What should I record before trying a fix?
Write down enough context to identify the originating process. The same text requires different treatment in an activation page, a browser tab, an application dialog, and a log entry.

Which situation matches what you saw?
Use this decision table to choose a safe path instead of applying a code-specific internet fix.
| Where the value appeared | What the evidence suggests | Appropriate response |
|---|---|---|
| Windows Activation settings | It is not listed in Microsoft’s documented activation-error guidance. | Run the official Activation troubleshooter, verify the edition and build, then contact Microsoft Support if it remains unresolved. |
| An application, game, graphics setting, or log | The format is consistent with a Win32 COLORREF value, but the originating program is unknown. | Identify the program and use that vendor’s documentation; do not treat the number as a universal Windows error. |
| A browser page or pop-up with a phone number | Phone support, payment, urgency, or remote access is a known fake-support pattern. | Close it without calling, remove unwanted permissions or extensions, and scan with Microsoft Defender. |
| A genuine system crash or blue screen | The computer crashed or rebooted and did not provide a support telephone number. | Record the actual stop code, install pending updates, and use Windows recovery and support tools. |
How do I handle a browser pop-up that shows 0x009247D1?
Treat a phone-number pop-up as a scam page, even if it uses Microsoft logos, a blue-screen design, or an audio warning. Microsoft’s guidance is explicit: never call a number supplied in an error message.

What if 0x009247D1 appears in Windows Activation?
Use Microsoft’s built-in activation workflow rather than a registry edit or a product-key utility. The code is not identified in Microsoft’s activation-error list, so persistence requires official support rather than a code-specific download.

- Press
Windows+R, enterwinver, and press Enter. Record the Windows edition and build shown in the About Windows dialog. - On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Activation. On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
- Select Troubleshoot if it is available, and complete the prompts. The troubleshooter can identify edition mismatches and some licensing-state problems.
- Confirm that the installed edition matches the license you own and that the computer is online. A Home license cannot activate a Pro installation, for example.
- Check Microsoft’s current activation-error list. If the exact value still is not listed or activation remains blocked, contact Microsoft Support and provide the complete message, edition, build, and purchase or organizational-license details.
A product-key seller, “activation crack,” or random registry file can introduce malware and can make licensing problems harder to diagnose. None is justified by this unrecognized value.
What if an application or game displays the value?
When the number appears inside a program, its meaning belongs to that program unless the developer documents otherwise. The COLORREF interpretation is useful for recognizing a possible color setting, but it is not a diagnosis of the application.

- Identify the program and its version from the window title, Help menu, or installed-apps list.
- Check the program’s own documentation, release notes, and support channel for the complete message. Include the surrounding text and the action that triggered it.
- Update the program from its built-in updater or the official vendor source. Avoid “DLL fixer” sites and unofficial repacks.
- Temporarily reset the program’s preferences using its documented reset option. Export profiles or saves first if the program supports them.
- If the value appears only in a log and the program works normally, treat it as diagnostic data rather than an operating-system failure. Keep the log for the vendor instead of deleting system files.
- If the application crashes, use Windows’ normal repair or uninstall options, then reinstall a clean copy from the official source. A crash log that happens to contain
0x009247D1does not identify the crashing module by itself.
What should I do if the computer really blue-screens?
First distinguish a crash from a full-screen web imitation. A genuine BSoD normally interrupts the entire system and leads to a restart; it does not ask you to telephone support or pay money.
- After Windows restarts, write down the actual stop-code text and the time of the crash. Do not assume that
0x009247D1is the stop code unless Windows displayed it in the standard crash screen. - Install pending updates through Settings > Windows Update. Disconnect newly added hardware and undo a recently installed driver or utility if the crashes began immediately afterward.
- If Windows cannot start normally, enter the recovery environment. In Windows 11, use Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced startup > Restart now. In Windows 10, use Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Advanced startup > Restart now.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair. If that does not work, try Startup Settings and start in Safe Mode so you can remove a recent application or update.
- Use Windows recovery or Microsoft Support with the recorded stop code and reliability details. A fake support screen should not be used as evidence that Windows hardware or licensing is defective.
What if I already called, paid, or gave remote access?
Act as though the device and any accounts used during the session may be exposed. Do not continue the conversation with the caller.

- From a different, trusted device, change passwords for email, Microsoft, banking, shopping, and any account that reused the same password. Turn on multifactor authentication and review active sign-ins.
- On the affected computer, uninstall applications the caller asked you to install, then run a full Microsoft Defender scan. If you suspect persistent tampering, run Microsoft Defender Offline from Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
- Install all Windows security updates. Consider backing up essential personal files and using Reset this PC if remote access or unauthorized changes cannot be confidently removed; choose the reset option appropriate to your backup situation.
- Contact your bank or card issuer immediately if payment details were shared, and monitor statements and account alerts. Report the incident through Microsoft’s scam-reporting route and any relevant local fraud-reporting service.
Do not accuse a particular Windows component solely because the scammer displayed a hexadecimal number. The number can be copied into a report, but the phone demand and remote-access behavior are the more important evidence.
How can I prevent the same warning from returning?
- Keep Windows, browsers, and security software updated through their official update channels.
- Allow website notifications only for sites you trust, and periodically review notification permissions and extensions.
- Use a standard user account for everyday work where practical, and read elevation prompts before approving them.
- Maintain current backups of important files so a compromised account or reset does not become permanent data loss.
- Teach household users that Microsoft does not put telephone numbers in genuine error messages and that unsolicited remote support is unsafe.

Frequently asked questions
Can I delete 0x009247D1 from the Windows Registry?
No. The value is not identified as a registry error, and deleting matching entries can damage an application or Windows configuration. Only change a registry value when the responsible software’s documentation gives the exact path, value type, and backup procedure.
Will changing the color to #D14792 make the warning disappear?
Only a program that deliberately uses the value as a COLORREF would respond to a color change. A browser scam, activation message, or crash will not be repaired by changing a color setting.
Can Microsoft identify the caller who used this code?
Microsoft Support can advise on account or activation issues, but the hexadecimal text alone does not identify the person or website that displayed it. Preserve the telephone number, URL, screenshots, payment records, and installed-software details for reporting.

Should I reinstall Windows immediately?
Not when the value appeared once in an application or a browser tab and the system is otherwise normal. Reinstallation is a recovery option after suspected remote access or persistent compromise that trusted scans and account-security steps cannot resolve, and it requires a reliable backup first.

Where can I find the real stop code after a crash?
Windows may show it on the restart screen, in the Reliability Monitor history, or in crash-dump information. Record the complete stop-code name and any driver or file named with it; the isolated value 0x009247D1 is not enough to diagnose a BSoD.
