- Copy important documents, saved game files, photos, and other personal data to a separate drive or trusted backup location.
- Connect the computer to reliable power, especially during a laptop update.
- Confirm that the internet connection works and that the current account has administrator access.
- Disconnect unnecessary USB drives, docks, printers, and other external hardware. Leave only equipment needed to operate the computer.
2. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run. Let the troubleshooter complete, apply any change it recommends, and restart if Windows requests it.
On Windows 10, open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run. The labels differ because Windows 10 places troubleshooting under Update & Security rather than the Windows 11 System page.
3. Stop Windows Update and clear its local cache

In File Explorer, go to C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution and clear the contents of that folder, not the parent C:Windows directory. The folder stores downloaded update working files; clearing its contents gives Windows Update a fresh local cache. Return to Services, start Windows Update again, and restart the computer before checking for updates. If a file refuses to delete, do not force it while the service is running; confirm that the service is stopped and seek support if Windows still holds the file.

4. Correct date and time

What should I do if 0x0093238E is shown in Device Manager or DXDiag?

If Windows still reaches the desktop
