Try a clean boot
A clean boot starts Windows with Microsoft services and a minimal set of startup programs, which can expose a conflict without deleting software.
- Press
Windows+R, typemsconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, then select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager. Disable enabled startup items that are not required for Windows.

Repair logical file-system errors
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
chkdsk C: /fThe /f switch repairs logical file-system errors. Because the Windows volume is normally in use, CHKDSK may ask to schedule the scan for the next restart; answer Y and reboot when convenient.
Scan for bad sectors
If there is evidence of bad sectors or unreadable data, the more extensive command is:
chkdsk C: /rThe /r switch includes logical-error repair, locates bad sectors, and attempts to recover readable information. It can take substantially longer, especially on large or failing drives. Use Safe Mode to isolate a recent change

Should I reset or reinstall Windows?
Reset or reinstall is a last resort after you have backed up personal files and preserved the logs. It can remove applications, drivers, settings, and possibly personal data depending on the option selected. A reset may be reasonable when Windows remains damaged after component repair and recovery tools, but it cannot repair a defect in a third-party application or failing storage device.
Before choosing a reset, verify that the drive is healthy enough to hold a new installation, confirm you can access Microsoft account and application licenses, and create installation media only for the correct Windows edition.
