How do I fix 0x009CE771 when Windows Update shows it?

1. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter

Windows + R, entermsconfig, and press Enter. - On the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, then select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager. Disable enabled third-party startup items.
- Restart and run Windows Update.
- When testing is complete, return to System Configuration and Task Manager and restore normal startup settings.
6. Repair the component store and system files
Open Windows Terminal (Admin), PowerShell (Admin), or Command Prompt (Admin). Run the following command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Then run:
sfc /scannow
Wait for System File Checker verification to reach 100 percent. Restart and try Windows Update again. DISM repairs the Windows image; SFC checks protected system files against that repaired image. Do not close the administrator window while either operation is running.

4. Try a clean boot
Use the msconfig and Task Manager procedure above to prevent non-Microsoft startup programs and services from loading. Run setup while the clean-boot state is active, then restore normal startup settings afterward.
5. Check the system drive when disk errors are suspected
Open an administrator command window and run:
chkdsk /f C:
