Run the Windows 11 troubleshooter

- Apply only the correction the troubleshooter recommends. When it finishes, restart Windows and retry the same update.
Microsoft also directs Windows 11 users to the automated Windows Update troubleshooter in the Get Help app. Use that route if Settings sends you there or if the Settings troubleshooter cannot complete.
Use the Windows 10 equivalent without guessing at a command
Windows 10 uses different Settings groupings across builds. Open Settings and search for troubleshoot settings, choose the Windows Update troubleshooter offered for your build, and follow its on-screen correction. If your build offers the Get Help app, use the automated Windows Update flow there. Avoid downloading an unrelated “error-code fixer” or deleting update folders merely because the hexadecimal value looks unfamiliar.

Check the result, not just the original number
Restart before trying the update again. If the operation produces a different error, preserve both values and the time of each attempt. Microsoft’s activation guidance warns that a troubleshooting or activation attempt can change the displayed code; a changed value is evidence about what happened, not proof that the first code was interpreted correctly.
What if the code appears during a Windows upgrade or installation?

Consider software interference carefully
Microsoft notes that non-Microsoft antivirus software and outdated or nonessential applications can interfere with an upgrade. Remove such software only when it is necessary for the upgrade and only after preserving its installation media, license or activation information, and any configuration you will need to reinstall it.
