Open a flagged device’s Properties to read its status, then install a driver supplied through Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, find Windows Update, and select Run. How do I repair Windows with DISM and SFC?

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth/Online targets the running Windows installation, and /RestoreHealth checks the component store and repairs detected corruption. DISM normally obtains replacement files through Windows Update. Wait for the final result and note whether it reports that corruption was repaired, no corruption was found, or source files could not be located.
Run System File Checker
After DISM finishes, run:
sfc /scannowSFC checks protected Windows files against the repaired component store. Allow the scan to reach 100 percent. If it reports that files were repaired, restart before testing Windows Update. If it says it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once; persistent failures require the escalation options later in this guide.
What if DISM says the source files cannot be found?
Use matching repair files from Windows installation media. The media must match the installed Windows edition and build; an unrelated image can produce another servicing failure. Mount the ISO or connect the installation media, identify its drive letter (for example, X:), and determine the correct image index for your edition. Then run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:X:sourcesinstall.wim:1 /LimitAccessReplace X: with the actual media drive and replace 1 with the index that corresponds to your edition. /Source tells DISM where to obtain repair files, while /LimitAccess prevents it from trying Windows Update. If the media contains install.esd rather than install.wim, use the file format and syntax supported by that media. When the command completes, run sfc /scannow again, restart, and retry the update.

How can I tell whether the repair worked?
Use an observable Windows Update result rather than the command’s completion message.
- Restart after DISM and SFC have finished.
- Open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
- Install the previously failing update if it is offered again.
- Return to Update history and confirm that the update is listed as successfully installed, with no new occurrence of the code.
- If the same failure returns, record the new date, KB number, and exact code. A changed code may indicate a different underlying problem.
Do not declare success solely because DISM reached 100 percent or SFC displayed a completion message; the update itself must install or the error must stop appearing in history.
Is it safe to delete the WinSxS folder to fix the error?

Use System Restore when a restore point exists
System Restore can return system files, drivers, and settings to an earlier point without intentionally deleting personal documents. It is available only if restore protection was enabled and a suitable point exists. Review the affected-program list before confirming and keep a current backup outside the Windows drive.
Reinstall or reset Windows
