Error 0x80045C3C has been reported when signing in to Xbox Live-connected apps on Windows, including Xbox Game Bar and games, and separately during Microsoft Store app installation. No reviewed source defines the code or confirms a guaranteed fix. Start with a restart and low-risk checks; avoid drastic system changes unless support recommends them.
What error 0x80045C3C means—and what it does not tell you
In one report, the code appeared as HRESULT:0x80045C3C in an XboxIdp.exe exception, alongside the message, “The text associated with this error code could not be found.” The report concerned Windows 11 21H2, build 22000.348: the user said sign-in failed in a Windows game, Xbox Game Bar, and other Xbox Live apps after a Windows update. A separate Windows 10 report associated the same code with installing apps from Microsoft Store. Microsoft’s reviewed GDK error-code reference does not list this exact code in the reviewed content. The sources therefore do not establish that it means an account problem, network fault, corrupted runtime, ban, or Xbox service outage. Nor does an app-related report indicate that an Xbox console is defective.
Troubleshoot in order, from lowest risk to higher impact
1. Record where the error appears
Before changing settings, note the affected app or game, whether other Xbox Live-connected apps also fail, your Windows version and build, when the problem began, and whether it followed a Windows or app update. A failure in one app points to a different scope than failures across several apps; the timing is useful context, not proof of cause.

2. Restart Windows and retry once
Save your work, restart the PC, then try signing in again. Microsoft’s developer-oriented Troubleshooting Sign-in and Sandbox Errors notes that a background service needed for sign-in—such as Xbox Live Auth Manager or Gaming Services—can get into a bad state, and that restarting may resolve transient issues. This is general troubleshooting guidance, not a confirmed remedy for 0x80045C3C.
3. Check Xbox service status if the error persists
If restarting does not help, check Xbox Status. Microsoft’s GDK guidance recommends checking service status after other troubleshooting options. If it shows an outage affecting the relevant service, wait for service to recover and try again rather than making broad changes to Windows.

4. Check for updates to the affected app and Microsoft Store
Install available updates for the Xbox app or game involved, and check Microsoft Store for its updates. This is a sensible maintenance step, but the Microsoft update instructions available here address a separate Store transaction message, not error 0x80045C3C. 5. Try Repair before considering Reset
Windows may offer app repair and reset controls, but the exact-code Q&A thread only contains a community suggestion to use them; it does not report a verified outcome. For the affected app, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the app’s menu, then choose Advanced options if available. Use Repair first. Consider Reset only if repair fails and you have checked the reset notice and understand its consequences for that app’s data and settings. Menu labels can vary by Windows version and app.

6. Escalate with details if several apps still fail
If the problem continues across multiple Xbox apps, contact Microsoft or Xbox Support, or submit feedback through Windows. Include the exact code, Windows version and build, affected apps, when the failure began, and which steps you tried. The exact-code Microsoft Q&A thread is locked and offers no confirmed resolution, so support may need those details to investigate rather than apply a known code-specific fix.

Replies in the exact-code Q&A thread suggest measures such as uninstalling and reinstalling Visual C++ runtimes, rolling back Windows, resetting or reinstalling Xbox apps, and broader Windows repair steps. The discussion does not establish that these fixed the issue; one reply says replacing Visual C++ runtimes did not help. The reviewed official sources do not recommend these as fixes for 0x80045C3C.

Likewise, a separate Store-installation thread suggests resetting the Store cache and re-registering Store packages, but that is community advice—not a verified Xbox sign-in fix. Do not run administrative PowerShell commands or remove packages on that basis alone. Prefer the restart, status check, and app-level options above; seek support before system-wide changes.
