Check EA and platform service status first, then work through your connection, platform or account, and matchmaking settings.
1. Check EA and platform service status
Start with EA’s server-status page and check the status of your platform’s online services. Availability can change, so check when the error occurs rather than relying on an old status report. EA says service problems can prevent players from connecting to Ultimate Team; its FC connection guide also points players to service status and official FC updates.

If a relevant service is down or experiencing problems, wait and try again after it recovers. Changing router settings will not resolve a server-side outage.
2. Restart the game and your network equipment
If services appear available, close FC 25 completely and relaunch it. If that does not help, restart your router and modem; if they are separate devices, restart both. EA’s FC-specific guide says to wait at least 30 seconds before powering the equipment back on. Its general online-connection guide suggests leaving the router unplugged for about a minute. These are EA troubleshooting timings, not a guaranteed interval for fixing this session error.

3. Reduce connection competition and test Wi-Fi
Pause other network activity
Temporarily pause large downloads, HD or 4K streaming, and other high-bandwidth activity on the shared network, then try creating the session again. This can help determine whether competing traffic is affecting your connection.
Compare wired and wireless connections
If you play over Wi-Fi, test with Ethernet if possible. EA says in its FC connection troubleshooting article, “An ethernet cable usually ensures a more stable connection.” That is a stability recommendation, not a promise that wired play will fix session creation. An Ethernet cable for gaming is an optional way to run this test; it cannot remedy an EA outage, account restriction, or unrelated matchmaking issue.

If a cable is not practical, compare 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi where your router and device support both. EA describes 2.4 GHz as having longer range but potentially lower speed and stability, while 5 GHz tends to be faster and more stable at shorter range. Distance from the router and channel congestion can also affect results. Neither band is a guaranteed fix. EA’s FC guide gives channels 1, 6, and 11 as non-overlapping options for 2.4 GHz; check your router’s documentation before changing its channel.
4. Make advanced router checks only if simpler steps fail
If the problem persists, check whether your router firmware is current, disconnect a VPN temporarily if you use one, and consider Quality of Service (QoS) settings if your router supports them. These are further connection checks, not explanations confirmed for this particular message. Router interfaces vary, and EA cautions that network changes can be technical; follow the router maker’s instructions. Avoid making multiple changes at once so you can tell whether any one test affects the problem.

5. Check platform eligibility and restart guidance
Confirm that your account can use the platform’s online multiplayer services and that any required online-play membership is active. If you play on a console, consult the platform’s official instructions for restarting the console or clearing its cache, and follow the steps for your specific model. On PC, use the relevant EA app, game, and account guidance rather than console cache instructions. These checks are useful when general network steps do not help; they do not establish the cause of this exact error.
6. If it happens only with friends, check compatibility and settings
If solo online matchmaking works but joining or creating a friend session fails, check whether everyone is using compatible platforms and game versions. Review the game’s cross-play and matchmaking settings, and confirm that the players are trying to use a mode that supports their setup. EA’s cross-play guide explains the feature and its settings.

This is a diagnostic branch, not an EA-verified cause of the “Error Creating Game Session” message. A friend-session-only pattern can help narrow down when the failure occurs, but does not prove that cross-play or compatibility is responsible.

- Packet loss: the share of packets that fail to complete that round trip.
- Jitter: changes in ping over time.
Use these observations to choose what to check next, not to declare a cause. Note whether the error affects one mode or all online play, solo matchmaking or only friend sessions, and Wi-Fi or a wired test. Also note whether service status, an account check, or a platform restart changed anything. No single observation confirms why a session failed.
8. Contact EA if the error continues
If services are available and the checks above do not help, contact EA support; EA’s FC connection guide directs persistent connection problems to its customer support team. Include details that can make the problem easier to investigate:
- Your platform and the game mode where the error appears.
- When the issue began and whether it happens every time.
- Whether EA and platform services appeared available when you checked.
- Whether the problem affects solo matchmaking, friend sessions, or all online play.
- Any available connection diagnostics, such as ping, packet loss, or jitter.
- The troubleshooting steps you tried and what happened after each one.
A forum post reports similar wording for FC 24, but an earlier-edition player report is anecdotal and does not establish that FC 25 has the same bug or fix: EA Forums: “Error occurs while creating game session. Try again.”
