If that does not help, check Epic’s service status, briefly test whether antivirus interference is involved, and work through relevant connection checks. None of these steps is guaranteed to fix every AS-3 error.
1. Check whether Epic’s services are having a problem
Before changing your PC or home network, check Epic Games Server Status while the error is happening. If Epic reports a relevant outage or system-wide issue, wait for service to be restored and try signing in again. A past incident report only describes that incident; it cannot confirm the current status.
2. Check IPv6 on Windows
Epic’s AS-3 guidance specifically recommends checking that Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is enabled on the active network adapter. The path differs between Windows 10 and Windows 11. These instructions apply to Windows; Epic does not give the same IPv6 steps for consoles or mobile devices.
Windows 11
- Open Control Panel and set View by to Category.
- Go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.
- Right-click the adapter currently connecting your PC to the network and select Properties.
- Make sure the box for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, then select OK.
- Retry Fortnite sign-in.
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Network and Internet > Status > Change adapter options.
- Right-click the active network adapter and choose Properties.
- Make sure Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, then select OK.
- Retry Fortnite sign-in.
Windows labels and layouts can vary. If these paths do not match your installation, use Windows search to open Control Panel or Network Connections and locate the active adapter’s properties. Epic says enabling IPv6 can help, but does not establish that IPv6 is the cause of every AS-3 error.

3. Test antivirus interference briefly
Epic suggests temporarily disabling antivirus to see whether it is interfering with the connection. Treat this only as a short diagnostic test: restore protection promptly, whether or not the test changes the error. If Fortnite connects only while protection is disabled, contact the antivirus provider for help addressing the interference rather than leaving protection off.
4. Work through relevant connection checks
Epic’s broader connection troubleshooting covers several possible network or Windows issues. These are not all required for every player; try appropriate checks one at a time and retry sign-in so you can tell whether one made a difference.

- Restart the modem and router: power-cycle your network equipment, let the connection return, and try again.
- Try another DNS service: Epic includes switching to a public DNS among its connection checks. Follow its current instructions for your device and network rather than changing unrelated adapter settings.
- Check the device clock: sync Windows’ date and time automatically, then retry.
- Check for proxies: confirm a proxy is not unintentionally routing the connection.
- Reset the device cache and flush DNS: follow Epic’s instructions for your platform and Windows version.
- Check Epic’s whitelisted domains guidance: this can matter if a firewall, filtering service, or managed network blocks connections.
- Update Windows: install applicable updates and restart the PC.
- Consider background applications: close or disable unnecessary background apps that may interfere with the connection.
- Reset the Windows hosts file: use this only if relevant, and follow Epic’s directions carefully.
Epic’s detailed instructions are on its connection troubleshooting page. Avoid making several changes at once: testing sequentially makes it easier to identify a cause and undo a change that does not help.
5. Try a different connection to isolate the problem
If the error continues, try signing in through another connection, such as a mobile hotspot, if available. If Fortnite works there but not on your usual network, that points toward the original connection path rather than proving a particular router or PC fault. Epic’s related guidance notes that a wired connection is more stable for large downloads; using Ethernet can also serve as an optional test of whether Wi-Fi is contributing. It is not a guaranteed AS-3 fix, so borrow or reuse a cable before buying one.

6. Get help if the error remains
If Epic’s relevant connection steps do not resolve the issue, its guidance directs players to their hardware manufacturer for further assistance. When contacting support, note your platform, when the error occurs, whether Epic’s status page showed an incident, and which connection checks changed the result. Those details help distinguish a service-side problem from a local network or device issue.
