How to Fix Going Medieval Crashing on PC

If Going Medieval keeps crashing, check your PC against Steam’s requirements, use file verification only for relevant mod or file issues, and capture Player.log before restarting.

If Going Medieval keeps crashing, first compare your PC with the game’s published requirements, then try only the troubleshooting steps that match your symptoms. For a crash that may involve unofficial mods or altered files, the developer recommends removing local game files and using Steam’s “Verify integrity…” option. If crashes continue, save Player.log immediately after a crash and send it to the developer before starting the game again, since a new launch can overwrite it. These are targeted suggestions, not guaranteed fixes for every crash.

1. Check your PC against Going Medieval’s requirements

Steam lists the following minimum and recommended specifications for the PC version. Treat them as a screening check, not a diagnosis: meeting the minimum does not rule out a hardware-related problem, and falling below it does not identify which part caused a crash.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10/11 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-9400F or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Intel Core i5-10600K / i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 XT
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (4 GB) NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super / RTX 2060 or AMD RX 6600 XT

Compare your operating system, processor, memory and graphics card with the matching tier on the Steam store listing. The recommended tier is not a required upgrade target or a promised crash fix.

2. If mods or altered game files may be involved, verify the installation

The developer’s pinned Technical FAQ and potential fixes ties its file-cleanup advice to a specific crash-cat connection error, likely involving unofficial mods. It is not presented as a universal fix for crashes on startup or other crash patterns.

  1. In Steam, open Going Medieval’s installation folder using the game’s local-files option.
  2. Remove the files in the installation folder as directed in the FAQ.
  3. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, go to Installed Files, and select “Verify integrity of game files…” (Steam’s label may vary slightly by client version).
  4. Let Steam check and restore the installation, then try launching the game.

The developer says this cleanup will not delete save files. If you are unsure whether this specific situation applies, avoid treating removal of game files as a routine first step for every crash.

3. Check graphics drivers

The developer has recommended checking for current graphics drivers in responses about crashes and a specific startup/display problem. Use the update channel for your graphics hardware, then retest the game. Driver updates are a troubleshooting suggestion for reported situations, not evidence that outdated drivers explain every crash.

In a crash-support reply dated February 14, 2024, developer SeVerin asks for a log generated after the crash and warns that starting the game again overwrites the previous one. Copy the file somewhere safe immediately after the crash, then attach it when reporting the issue.

One reply in the same discussion suggests clearing files in %userprofile%AppDataLocalLowUnityFoxy Voxel_Going Medieval as a possible response to a Unity file-parsing issue. This is a targeted suggestion, not a general reset procedure; preserve any files you may need and follow the developer’s guidance for the relevant symptom.

5. Separate performance drops from crashes

If the game is slowing down or stuttering rather than closing or becoming unresponsive, the pinned FAQ suggests testing V-sync off or limiting the frame rate to 60 or 30. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether performance changes. These settings address performance symptoms; they do not establish a cause or fix for a crash.

6. Send a useful bug report

When the listed fixes do not fit or crashes persist, the developer’s preferred route in the pinned FAQ is the in-game F10 bug-report tool. The developer says: “This will send us your save, PC specs, and other game data related to playing Going Medieval.” Include the fresh Player.log where the report flow allows it, and describe what you were doing when the crash occurred. The developer also lists the F10 route as a way to provide save and PC data.
