Among Us lag can mean two different problems: network latency or poor rendering performance. If players teleport, actions arrive late, or you disconnect, troubleshoot your internet connection and server region. If animation is choppy in menus or local games, troubleshoot the device, heat, power settings, drivers, and background applications.
Start by updating Among Us, restarting the game and device, and testing one private game and one online game. Innersloth announced on June 22, 2026, that 2024 versions were no longer supported and directed players to update to version 17.4.0. Check the version shown in your installation rather than assuming an old copy is supported.

First, determine whether you have lag or low FPS

A high-refresh-rate monitor does not automatically make Among Us run at that refresh rate. Display refresh rate and game frame rate are separate. Also, lowering graphics settings cannot repair a poor network route: smooth menus combined with teleporting players points to latency, not FPS.
Quick fixes for everyone
- Close Among Us completely, then launch it again.
- Restart the device. This can clear stalled processes, driver problems, and performance degradation after sleep or long uptime.
- Update Among Us through Steam, Epic Games Store, itch.io, Xbox, the App Store, Google Play, or your console store.
- Install pending system updates, including console firmware, Android or iOS updates, and PC graphics-driver updates.
- Restart the modem and router if the problem occurs only online.
- Close downloads, cloud backups, streams, browsers, overlays, recording tools, and unofficial injectors.
- Test a private game and an online game. If menus and private play are smooth but public matches are not, focus on networking.
- Remove mods, modified clients, FPS boosters, and unofficial APKs. They can introduce instability, security risks, compatibility problems, or account and anti-cheat issues.
Fix online lag, delayed actions, and disconnects
Choose the closest Among Us server region
Use the server-region selector in the online menu and choose the region geographically closest to most players in the lobby. A closer region usually reduces latency, but it cannot guarantee a stable connection: weak Wi-Fi, interference, ISP routing, congestion, and router problems can still cause lag. A region with more available rooms is not necessarily the fastest region.

Changing regions can also reduce the number of visible lobbies. Treat it as a latency test rather than a permanent guarantee.
Improve Wi-Fi before changing advanced settings
- Move closer to the router.
- Use 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi when the device supports it and is nearby. These bands can be faster and less crowded, but they have shorter range and weaker wall penetration.
- Use 2.4 GHz when distance and wall penetration matter more than speed, accepting that it is often more congested.
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, video streams, and uploads on the same network.
- Restart the modem and router.
- Connect a PC or console by Ethernet when practical. Wired networking generally improves stability, but it does not raise the game’s FPS.
- Test Among Us on a phone hotspot or another Wi-Fi network. If the problem disappears, your home network or ISP route is the leading suspect.
Nintendo’s latency guidance identifies slow internet, weak wireless signal, interference, and slow network-device response as common causes, and recommends testing the connection after each change.
Work out whether the lobby or one player is affected
If multiple players experience delayed movement or disconnections at the same time, the problem may involve the server region, service, lobby, or network path. If only one player is affected, that player’s Wi-Fi, device, or ISP connection is more likely responsible. Ask everyone to compare the exact symptom rather than assuming the whole lobby has the same problem.

Do not make a VPN your first fix
A VPN can occasionally improve an unusual ISP-routing problem, but it can also add distance, encryption overhead, and another failure point. Test without a VPN first. Only experiment with one if changing networks suggests a routing problem and you can compare the result directly.
Fix low FPS and stuttering on PC
Check the hardware guidance, with the dates in mind
Innersloth’s compatibility guidance lists an Intel i3-4330 processor, Intel HD Graphics 4600, 1 GB of RAM, and Windows 10 32-bit as a minimum reference. Its recommended reference lists the same processor, an Nvidia GTX 650, 4 GB of RAM, and Windows 10 64-bit.
The separate official purchase page lists Windows 7 SP1 or later, SSE2 support, 1 GB of RAM, DirectX 10, and 250 MB of storage. These pages come from different periods and are not perfectly consistent. Treat them as official compatibility references, not a promise of a particular FPS on every modern platform. A device below the published guidance may run the game poorly, fail to launch, or behave inconsistently.

- Close browsers with many tabs.
- Stop other games and launchers.
- Temporarily disable storefront, chat, recording, streaming, RGB-control, and hardware-monitoring overlays.
- Restart Windows if performance became worse after sleep or a long session.
Check power mode and heat
Test a laptop while plugged in. Windows power-saving modes and manufacturer battery profiles can reduce CPU and GPU performance. A balanced or performance profile may improve frame consistency, but it can also increase heat, fan noise, and battery drain.

If Among Us starts smoothly and becomes choppy later, heat is a strong possibility. Put a laptop on a hard, ventilated surface, keep vents clear, and avoid direct sunlight or a hot room. Do not use a phone, tablet, or laptop on soft bedding. Let it cool before retesting.
Update or roll back the graphics driver
Install Intel, AMD, or Nvidia graphics drivers from the hardware manufacturer or your PC maker. A driver update is not guaranteed to help; occasionally a new driver introduces a game-specific problem. If the stutter began immediately after a driver update, use the manufacturer’s previous-driver or rollback option where available.
Test fullscreen and windowed modes
Among Us supports fullscreen toggling on PC. The official itch.io listing documents Alt+Enter for switching fullscreen. Test fullscreen and windowed or borderless modes because their behavior can differ by graphics driver and operating system. Do not expect a universal FPS slider or identical graphics controls on every platform.
Verify or reinstall the installation
On Steam:
- Open Steam Library.
- Right-click Among Us and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Relaunch the game.
Steam’s labels can change, but its Among Us technical-support page identifies Innersloth as the support provider. If verification does not help, reinstall from the official storefront. Reinstallation can repair incomplete updates or corrupted files; it cannot fix weak Wi-Fi, server latency, overheating, or hardware limitations.

Fix low FPS and stutter on Android
- Update Among Us through Google Play and install pending Android updates.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Close demanding background applications.
- Disable Battery Saver or Ultra Power Saving while testing.
- Check that sufficient storage remains available for updates and normal system operation.
- Remove a thick case temporarily if the device is hot.
- Avoid playing while charging if charging makes the device noticeably hotter.
- Stop using the device in direct sunlight or a hot room, then retest after it cools.
Innersloth’s published Android references include Snapdragon 450-equivalent minimum guidance with 2.1 GB RAM and Snapdragon 855-equivalent recommended guidance with 6 GB RAM. These are dated compatibility references, not a universal 2026 FPS benchmark. Do not force-enable higher frame rates with unofficial tools or modified files.
Reinstall only after confirming that your account and purchases are correctly linked. Do not manually delete local game data unless current official instructions specifically require it.
Fix low FPS and stutter on iPhone or iPad
- Update Among Us in the App Store.
- Install the latest available iOS or iPadOS update.
- Restart the device.
- Turn off Low Power Mode while testing.
- Close demanding background apps.
- Check available storage.
- Let the device cool, and test without a case if heat is suspected.
- Reinstall only after confirming account and purchase information.
Innersloth’s published iOS guidance lists iPhone 6s or newer as the minimum reference. That is an official historical compatibility reference, not a guarantee that every supported device will maintain the same frame rate in 2026.
Fix lag on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox
- Update Among Us and the console.
- Fully close the game instead of leaving it suspended.
- Restart the console.
- Restart the router.
- Use wired Ethernet where practical and supported.
- If using Wi-Fi, move closer to the router and reduce interference.
- Stop downloads and streaming on the network.
- Test another online game and, if possible, another network.
- Check whether every player in the lobby is affected.
For Switch, follow Nintendo’s connection-testing guidance and test after each network change. For Xbox, the official listing advertises 60 FPS+ and 120 FPS capability on supported Xbox environments. That is not a guarantee for every display mode, console configuration, version, or cloud session. Cloud gaming also adds stream latency, so it is a poor workaround when your core problem is network instability.

If another game also disconnects or performs badly, investigate the console’s network and system health. If only Among Us is affected across multiple networks, contact Innersloth.
If the problem started after an update
- Confirm that every player is running the same current version.
- Restart Among Us after the update finishes.
- Test a private lobby.
- Check Innersloth’s official announcements and support information.
- Record the exact version number, platform, device, and time the issue occurs.
Do not casually downgrade. Innersloth’s June 22, 2026 announcement said 2024 versions were no longer supported and directed players to version 17.4.0. An older installation may continue to open while no longer receiving support or working reliably with current players.
When to contact Innersloth support
Escalate when the game is updated, the issue survives testing on more than one network, other games work normally, or Among Us consistently freezes, crashes, or disconnects. Also report a reproducible problem affecting multiple players or one that began immediately after an update.
