When Halo matchmaking won’t load, check for an outage first
For Halo Infinite, Halo Support recommends checking Xbox Live service status when multiplayer will not load. This is the fastest way to separate a broad service interruption from a problem in your home network. If status information shows an incident, changing ports or replacing hardware cannot restore matchmaking; wait for the service issue to clear and retest.
If services appear available, use Infinite’s normal path: Play → Multiplayer → choose a playlist → Play. Halo Support says waits are usually under a few minutes, but timing varies with playlist, region, population, and current service conditions. A long queue by itself does not identify the fault, so note whether the game eventually errors, returns to the menu, or remains searching indefinitely.
Use the failure stage as a diagnostic
- Sign-in failure: focus on account, platform, and service status before changing in-game network options.
- Playlist search that never completes: verify status, then record the playlist and region; do not treat queue length alone as proof of a local connection fault.
- Lobby forms but the match will not start: test another playlist and check whether friends see the same behavior.
- Disconnect after play begins: compare Wi-Fi and wired behavior and record the exact error text.
Fix Infinite’s “No ping to our datacenters” error
Halo Support describes “No ping to our datacenters” as consistent with an essential server being blocked by the router, firewall, internet service provider, or a network administrator. This is different from simply having a weak Wi-Fi signal: the game may be unable to reach a required service at all.
Unblock the required port without exposing unrelated services
- Identify whether you control the home router and device firewall. On a school, hotel, workplace, or other managed network, contact the administrator instead of changing settings yourself.
- Check the router or firewall rules for UDP port 3075. Halo Support specifically lists opening UDP 3075 alongside the required Xbox network ports for this error.
- Save the rule, restart the network equipment if its interface requires it, and restart the handheld before trying Infinite again.
- If you cannot administer the network, ask the ISP or network administrator to unblock UDP 3075 and the required Xbox network traffic. Do not open unrelated ports or place the handheld in a broad exposed-host mode merely to test Halo.
If the error remains after the administrator confirms the rule, record the network type, exact error, and time of the test. A port rule cannot correct an upstream outage or a separate account problem.
Reduce Halo lag on Steam Deck by comparing Wi-Fi paths
Steam Support’s network guidance recommends testing other available Wi-Fi bands. If your access point offers them, try 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz separately rather than assuming the newest band is always best. A band that improves Halo may have less interference or a better signal in your room, while another may reach farther through walls.
- Move the Steam Deck near the access point for a controlled test.
- Connect to one available band and play the same playlist or a private session long enough to observe the symptom.
- Repeat on another band under similar conditions. Note lag spikes, voice-chat quality, packet-loss warnings, and whether the game disconnects.
- Where practical, compare the result with a direct wired connection. Steam Deck requires additional hardware for USB-C-to-Ethernet; a compatible adapter only enables this diagnostic and does not guarantee lower ping or cure a server-side issue. Confirm that an adapter matches your Deck model, dock, and network setup before buying.
If Ethernet is stable while every tested Wi-Fi band produces spikes, the wireless or local-radio path becomes more likely. That comparison does not prove whether the underlying cause is interference, access-point load, cabling, or the ISP. If both wired and wireless tests fail in the same way, investigate service status, filtering, and the game-specific error instead of assuming the handheld’s Wi-Fi hardware is defective.

Separate Halo-only lag from whole-network trouble
During the same time window, test another online application on the handheld. If only Halo stutters, preserve the exact Halo error and playlist details for support. If several applications lose connectivity, rebooting the router may be a reasonable first home-network step, but persistent problems belong with the ISP or network administrator rather than Halo matchmaking settings.

Halo Support’s April 6, 2023 Steam update states that MCC matchmaking and the Custom Game Browser became accessible on Steam Deck. That article also reported that the launch choices labeled for anti-cheat behaved opposite to their labels at the time. Until that issue was resolved, the article directed players seeking matchmaking to choose “Anti-Cheat Disabled.”
That instruction is dated. Before using it today, check the current MCC Known Issues and update information; do not treat a 2023 workaround as a permanent requirement. If the current launcher labels and Known Issues no longer describe that behavior, follow the current instructions instead.
Set the preferred input for input-restricted matchmaking
If a playlist or session is restricted by input device, the same Steam update says to set the preferred device to gamepad:
- Open MCC.
- Go to Options & Career → Settings → Control.
- Set Preferred Input Device to Gamepad.
- Return to matchmaking and test the same playlist again.
This setting addresses input filtering; it is not a general latency cure. If unrestricted playlists work but input-restricted searches do not, keep the distinction in your support report.
When Halo keeps disconnecting with “Connection Interrupted”
The April 2023 MCC Steam update documented a specific limitation: Steam Deck players could not reliably play Campaign Co-op or Spartan Ops with PC or Xbox players. Sessions could eventually display “Connection Interrupted” or a similar disconnection. The update said those modes worked when everyone was on Steam Deck.

This note applies to campaign co-op and Spartan Ops, not to every competitive multiplayer disconnect. If all participants use Steam Deck and the same session still fails, return to the general service and network tests rather than assuming the documented limitation explains it.
Use a controlled party test
- Record the mode, each player’s platform, and whether the disconnect occurs during joining, loading, or active play.
- For the documented co-op scenario, compare a party made entirely of Steam Deck players with a mixed PC/Xbox party.
- Keep the network path consistent while comparing parties; changing Wi-Fi band at the same time makes the result harder to interpret.
- Capture the exact text, including “Connection Interrupted” if shown, and the approximate time into the session.
A mixed-platform failure limited to those MCC modes is evidence of a platform/mode compatibility issue. A failure across modes, parties, and platforms points back toward service status, filtering, or the local connection.
Match the fix to the network you control
Home router
You can inspect firewall and port rules, test bands, and perform the Wi-Fi-versus-Ethernet comparison. Make one change at a time and retest the same game mode so that a successful result has a clear cause.

Managed network
Hotels, campuses, workplaces, and some apartment networks may block required traffic. Ask the administrator to investigate UDP 3075 and the required Xbox network ports for Infinite’s datacenter error. Do not bypass policy or alter equipment you do not own.
ISP or upstream fault
If multiple devices or wired and wireless tests fail, provide the ISP with timestamps and the results of both connection paths. Halo Support cannot repair an access circuit, and a new router is not an evidence-based default fix.

- Applying Infinite advice to MCC: the two games have different documented guidance. Confirm the title before changing ports or launch options.

Choose one playlist or co-op mode and keep the party, region, and approximate test time consistent. First record the symptom on the original connection. Then change only one variable: a different Wi-Fi band, Ethernet, an administrator-confirmed port rule, or the MCC gamepad preference. Repeat the same action and record whether the failure occurs at sign-in, search, lobby, loading, or active play.

Should I buy an Ethernet adapter for Steam Deck?
Only if you want to perform the wired diagnostic. Steam Deck needs USB-C-to-Ethernet hardware, but an adapter does not guarantee lower ping or fix a server-side problem. Confirm compatibility with your Deck, dock, and network setup.
