If MLB The Show 26 sounds painfully loud, crackles, clips, or puts game audio on the wrong side, isolate the signal path before changing lots of settings. Compare the same menu or inning through your TV or soundbar and through a headset, then adjust the output device, HDMI or headphone routing, format, and game/chat balance on the device that is actually producing the sound. On Windows, also disable audio enhancements, test another default format, and update or reinstall the audio driver.
MLB The Show 26 launched on March 17, 2026 (with early access beginning March 13) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. PlayStation Support lists English audio and subtitles. The published support information does not confirm a game-specific audio bug, patch workaround, or complete in-game audio-slider map, so the steps below use documented console, Windows, and headset controls and treat a game-specific cause as unconfirmed.

Start by identifying where the problem is
A loud or distorted inning can originate in the game, the console or computer mixer, an HDMI chain, a soundbar or receiver, a headset, a cable, or a wireless/USB connection. Changing several controls at once makes the cause harder to find. Use this order:

- Stay on one repeatable sound, such as the same menu, batting-practice sequence, or inning.
- Quit and relaunch MLB The Show 26 after each meaningful setting change. Change one setting at a time.
- Listen through the output you normally use, then through a second output. For example, compare the TV or soundbar with a headset.
- Note whether the fault follows the game (both outputs), follows one output device (only the headset or only HDMI), or affects only voice chat.
If both outputs reproduce the same clipping or imbalance while other games and system sounds are clean, the game remains a possible cause, but the available official material does not establish an MLB The Show 26-specific defect. If only one output is affected, troubleshoot that device, its cable, receiver, or routing first.

What each result tells you
- TV/soundbar bad, headset clean: inspect HDMI device selection, HDMI format, receiver channels, speaker-position settings, and the TV or soundbar input.
- Headset bad, TV/soundbar clean: check the selected headset, headphone volume, game/chat balance, USB receiver, controller jack, and headset cable.
- Both outputs bad: check console or Windows volume and format, then compare another game or system audio.
- Only chat is wrong: treat it as a game/chat routing or balance issue rather than a master-volume problem.
- Only one side is loud: check speaker-position and channel configuration, then the headset, cable, jack, and physical speaker placement.
PS5: correct the output path first
On PlayStation 5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. This page contains the controls most likely to correct a loud, quiet, distorted, or unbalanced signal.
1. Confirm Output Device
Check that Output Device is the device you are actually hearing. A connected headset can cause the PS5 to route sound away from the TV or soundbar, while removing it can send audio back to HDMI. Select the intended output, play the same MLB The Show 26 scene, and listen before changing anything else.
If a headset is connected but the TV is still playing, or the headset is silent while the TV works, this routing check is more useful than raising every volume control. Also verify that the selected USB device is the headset you intended to use; similarly named devices can make a working headset appear faulty.

2. Match HDMI Device Type and channels
For TV, soundbar, or AV-receiver playback, review HDMI Device Type. If the system is an AV amplifier, PlayStation provides Number of Channels and Adjust Speaker Positions. Set the channel count to match the connected system and use the speaker-position adjustment so the left and right channels correspond to their actual locations.
A wrong channel arrangement can sound like a game mix problem: commentary, crowd noise, or effects may seem to lean to one side, disappear from a speaker, or become unusually prominent. Make one change, replay the same passage, and return to the previous value if the result worsens.

3. Test Audio Format (Priority)
Still under Settings > Sound > Audio Output, test the available Audio Format (Priority) choices one at a time. A format that the TV, soundbar, receiver, or HDMI link handles poorly can produce harshness, clipping, missing channels, or an apparently low level. Keep the format that gives clean, correctly positioned sound on the actual device you use, not merely the one that appears most advanced on paper.
After changing the priority, replay a consistent sample. If the audio improves immediately, leave the setting in place and test another game or a system menu to make sure the change did not simply move the problem elsewhere.

When using a headset, review Output to Headphones and the headphone volume controls on the same Audio Output page. Confirm that the output is being sent to the headset rather than only to HDMI, and set the volume high enough for speech and effects without driving the headset into distortion. A distorted signal that disappears when you lower the PS5 headphone volume points toward level overload in the headset or its input stage; a distortion that remains at low volume requires further device and connection checks.
5. Use game/chat balance for voice problems
If the game is loud but party chat is too quiet, or voices overpower commentary and crowd noise, adjust the game/chat balance offered by your headset or PS5 setup rather than changing the master volume repeatedly. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance for the INZONE H5 specifically calls out game/chat balance and the computer or console master volume as separate checks. The aim is to make both sources intelligible without forcing either one to clip.
6. Controlled USB-headset comparison
A USB headset gives you a controlled comparison because it bypasses the TV’s speakers and much of the HDMI chain. For Sony’s INZONE H5, the documented PS5 route is Settings > Sound > Audio Output > USB Headset (INZONE H5). Select that device, verify its volume and game/chat balance, and replay the same scene.

If the USB headset is clean while HDMI remains distorted, concentrate on the TV, soundbar, receiver, HDMI cable, HDMI device type, channel count, and audio format. If HDMI is clean while the headset is not, inspect the headset, USB receiver, controller connection, and headphone settings. This comparison does not prove a game defect; it identifies which part of the signal path needs attention.
Windows PC: remove mixer, enhancement, format, and driver causes
Windows 11 can make an application sound quiet, distorted, or crackly even when the game itself is unchanged. Check the system and app separately.
1. Verify system and per-app volume
- Open Start > Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer.
- Raise System volume and the MLB The Show 26 app volume independently.
- Make sure the game is not muted and that the selected output is the device you are wearing or listening to.
- Replay the same menu or inning before moving to advanced settings.
An application can be muted or assigned a different output from the system default. Correcting that assignment can restore game audio without changing the master level.
2. Turn off audio enhancements
Open the selected output device in Windows Sound settings and turn Audio enhancements off. Microsoft identifies enhancements as a possible source of reduced or distorted output volume. Enhancement effects can also make a headset and TV sound very different, so disable them while diagnosing; you can test them again later only after clean playback is established.
3. Try another Default format
In the selected output device, open Advanced and test another Default format. Microsoft lists unsupported or incorrect formats among possible causes of distorted, crackling, or poor-quality audio. Apply one format, replay the same sample, and compare. Keep the format that your headset, speakers, or receiver reproduces cleanly.

Do not change several format and enhancement options together. If you cannot identify which setting helped, restore the last known-good value and repeat the test one control at a time.
4. Update or reinstall the audio driver
If the problem persists after mixer, enhancement, and format checks, update the audio driver for the selected output device. Microsoft also identifies outdated or corrupted drivers and stopped audio services as possible causes. If updating does not help, reinstall the driver, restart Windows, and test the game again.
Driver work is less reversible than a volume or routing change, so first confirm that the fault is present in more than one application or that Windows diagnostics point to the device. If other system audio is also crackling, the driver or output hardware becomes more likely than an MLB The Show 26-only setting.

Check the physical signal chain
When one output is consistently worse, inspect the hardware that is unique to that path. For HDMI playback, check the cable seating, the soundbar or receiver input, the TV input, and any receiver channel configuration. For a headset, check the earcup balance, cable, USB receiver, controller jack, and physical mute or chat controls.
Move the headset or USB receiver to the documented port or connection path, reconnect it, and select it again in the console or Windows output list. A clean result from a second output is evidence that the original device or connection deserves inspection; it is not evidence that the game has a universal audio fault.

Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch
MLB The Show 26 officially supports Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch as well as PS5. The cited support material documents detailed audio controls for PS5 and Windows, but it does not publish an equivalent, game-specific troubleshooting map for Xbox or Switch.
On either platform, apply the same diagnostic principle: reproduce one scene, verify the console’s selected output, compare a TV or soundbar with a headset, and change one volume or routing control at a time. If only one output fails, inspect that output’s cable, receiver, headset, or controller connection. If both outputs fail in the game while other system audio is clean, record the platform, output path, and reproducible scene before contacting platform or game support.
A safe order for changing settings
- Routing: select the actual TV, HDMI device, USB headset, or controller-connected headset.
- Level: set system, app, headphone, and game/chat volumes to sensible values.
- Format: test PS5 Audio Format (Priority) or a Windows Default format.
- Enhancements: disable Windows audio enhancements while testing.
- Drivers: update or reinstall the Windows audio driver if software distortion remains.
- Hardware: replace or bypass the suspect cable, receiver, jack, TV, soundbar, receiver, or headset only after the software path has been isolated.
This order starts with reversible changes and ends with hardware intervention. Relaunch the game after each change and keep a note of the setting and result so you do not lose a clean baseline.

Escalate when the same output remains faulty at low volume, with enhancements disabled, after a format change, and in more than one application. Before contacting support, collect the platform, console or Windows version, output device, connection type, whether the fault affects one or both channels, whether chat is involved, and the exact repeatable scene. State which comparison output was clean and which documented controls you tested.
Because the available official information does not announce a confirmed MLB The Show 26 audio bug or a universal workaround, describe the failure precisely instead of assuming the game is responsible. A reproducible, platform-specific report is more useful than a general complaint that the audio is “bad.”
