Update the game and check the regulation file
Bandai Namco says Hotfix 1.03.5 is required for online play. Check for an available game update on your platform, install it, then restart the game. On console, log in so the game can download the latest regulation file. If the displayed regulation version is not 1.03.5, select LOGIN as directed on the Hotfix 1.03.5 notice (31 March 2026). The notice also describes a multiplayer performance fix, but it does not say that the patch resolves every matchmaking problem.

Restart a stalled matchmaking search
If the search is taking unusually long or fails to find players, cancel it and start the matchmaking process again. During the May 2025 launch period, FromSoftware advised players having trouble finding others when launching an expedition to restart matchmaking. That was historical guidance, not a guarantee that restarting will fix a current issue. PC Gamer reported the recommendation on 31 May 2025.

Check platform compatibility if you are joining friends
A May 2025 report by Windows Central said Nightreign does not support crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC. It reported cross-generation play within each console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. If your group spans PlayStation, Xbox, and/or PC families, repeated queue attempts will not bridge that incompatibility. Because this compatibility information comes from a secondary report dated May 2025, check for newer official guidance if platform support may have changed. Read the Windows Central platform report.

Match the symptom to the documented bug
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.01.4 patch notes, dated 2 July 2025, say the developers fixed a bug that could make matchmaking continually fail after two players joined and left a team at the same time. This is a specific historical fix; it does not explain every failed join or expedition launch. Make sure the game is updated, but do not assume this old bug is the cause unless the circumstances fit.

Contact official support if the problem persists
Use the publisher support route identified by Steam’s ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN technical-support page. Include your platform, game version, region, exact error text, whether solo or other online play works, and whether the failure happens with random matchmaking or one particular friend. Those details help distinguish an update issue, a platform mismatch, a queue failure, and a problem limited to a particular group.

Use the failure pattern to narrow it down
Before changing network settings, note who is affected and at what point the failure happens. A single player unable to connect may have a different problem from an entire group that cannot start an expedition; a friend-joining failure also calls for a platform compatibility check that a random queue problem does not.
- Only one person cannot get online: check that player’s update and, on console, regulation file first.
- A friend invite or shared group fails: compare platform families and generations before restarting the search.
- Random matchmaking stalls: restart the search once and try again after confirming the game is updated.
- The failure persists across attempts or players: gather the details listed above and contact official support rather than treating an old patch note as a diagnosis.
How to check whether there is an outage
A long queue or failed expedition does not by itself prove that Nightreign’s services are down. The sources cited here do not establish current server health, so check Bandai Namco’s official announcements or ask its support team for current status. The launch-period queue reports and the older bug fix cannot confirm whether there is an outage now.
