- Copy the code into a note exactly as shown, including the number of zeros and the final digits.
- Check whether the message says “Something went wrong” and “Please try again later,” or displays another code entirely.
- If the code is not exactly

How do I enable the Windows Update service?

services.mscand press Enter. - In the Services list, find Windows Update. The list is alphabetical, so you can select it and type the service name to jump to it.
- Double-click Windows Update to open its properties.
- Set Startup type to Automatic. If it is already Automatic, leave that setting in place.
- Check Service status. If it says Stopped, select Start.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Restart the computer. After signing in, open Settings > Windows Update (or Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update on Windows 10) and select Check for updates.
If Windows refuses to start the service, records an access-denied message, or changes the startup type back to Disabled, a device policy, security product, or damaged servicing configuration may be controlling it. How do I reset the Microsoft Store cache?

Should I install pending Windows updates and verify time and region?
Yes. Store launch and download problems can persist when Windows has outstanding servicing updates or when the computer’s clock and regional settings do not match the account and Store environment.
Install updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update on Windows 11, or Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update on Windows 10.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates, including a required restart. If Windows offers several rounds, repeat the check after each restart until no further updates are offered.
- Open Microsoft Store and test the original action again.
Correct date, time, and region
- Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time on Windows 11, or Settings > Time & Language > Date & time on Windows 10.
- Turn on Set time automatically and select Sync now when that button is available.

How do I re-register Microsoft Store?
If the Store package is present but its registration is damaged, Microsoft documents re-registering the package with PowerShell. This is different from uninstalling the Store: it rebuilds the registration Windows uses to launch the package.
- Open PowerShell from the Start menu. Use a non-elevated window unless you intentionally need to register the package for the administrator account.
- Paste this command exactly and press Enter:
Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe- Wait for PowerShell to finish. If it reports an error, copy the complete message rather than repeatedly running the command.
- Restart Windows and open Microsoft Store.
Do not substitute a package name from an unofficial guide. The family name in Microsoft’s procedure is Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe. Registration may not overcome a policy block, a broken user profile, or unavailable network endpoints.
Could a policy, proxy, or firewall be blocking the Store?
Yes. A Store package can be installed and correctly registered while a management rule or network control prevents it from reaching Microsoft’s Store and Windows Update services.
Personal computer checks
- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN or manually configured proxy if your organization does not require it, then test again.
- In Settings > Network & internet > Proxy on Windows 11 (or Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy on Windows 10), review the manual proxy setting and disable an entry you do not recognize.
- Check that your firewall allows Microsoft Store and Windows Update traffic. Do not permanently disable the firewall as a troubleshooting shortcut; if testing requires a change, restore protection immediately afterward.
- Try a different trusted network. If the Store works there, the original router, DNS filter, proxy, or firewall is the likely control point.
Managed work or school device
Organizations can disable Store access, restrict updates, or require traffic to pass through approved endpoints. If the Windows Update service is locked, the startup type cannot be changed, or Store access is intentionally restricted, contact the administrator. When should I run DISM and SFC?
Use system-file repair after the service, cache, update, time, registration, and network checks. These commands can take time and may appear to pause; wait for each one to finish before starting the next.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator: search for
Command Prompt, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. - Run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth- Wait until DISM reports completion. Keep the window open even if progress appears stalled.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow- After SFC reaches 100 percent, restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store and repeat the action that produced
0x80070422.
DISM repairs the Windows image that SFC uses as a source; running SFC first can therefore leave it without a healthy repair source. Neither command is a substitute for enabling a deliberately disabled Windows Update service or removing a management restriction.

- Write down the exact code, the Store action that fails, and whether the Store launches at all.

Use Microsoft support when the service is enabled, the cache reset is complete, pending updates are installed, time and region are correct, registration and endpoint checks are clear, and DISM followed by SFC has not resolved the problem. Provide the exact code rather than calling every Store failure “0x80070422”; a different code requires a different procedure.
