The message “Microsoft Store problem on our end” is a broad failure notice, not a diagnosis. The right fix depends on what failed: the Store may not open, one downloaded app may be broken, or downloads may fail across the Store. Note any error code, sign in to your Microsoft account, restart the affected app or Store, install Windows and Store updates, and then follow the branch that matches your symptom. If Microsoft Store itself will not launch, Microsoft’s documented wsreset.exe cache reset is the next low-risk step. Persistent failures on an organization-managed PC may require an administrator to check registration, policy, firewall, or proxy settings.
What does “Microsoft Store problem on our end” mean?
It means the Store could not complete an operation, but the wording does not identify one specific cause. Microsoft’s support guidance treats the message as a symptom that can accompany account, app, update, cache, time, location, policy, or network-related problems. It is not, by itself, proof of a Microsoft-wide outage, a damaged Windows installation, or malware.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBefore changing settings, record three details. First, does Microsoft Store fail to open at all, or does it open but fail to download? Second, does one app fail while other listings work, or do all downloads fail? Third, is an error code shown, such as 0x80131500? Also note whether the PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11 and whether it is controlled by a school, employer, or other organization. Those details determine which instructions apply.
What should I try first?
Start with reversible account, restart, and update actions. They address the common Store and app states without removing installed apps or changing administrator-level settings.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account used for the Store. Open Microsoft Store, select the account or profile control, and confirm that you are signed in. If the affected app has its own sign-in, sign in there as well. A Store app can fail even when Windows itself appears to be signed in.
- Close and reopen the affected app. Exit the app rather than leaving it suspended, wait a few seconds, and launch it again. If the Store window itself is the problem, close it and try opening it again from the Start menu.
- Restart Windows. Use Start > Power > Restart, allow the restart to finish, and test the same action again. A restart is useful after an update or a stalled Store process because it clears the current session without deleting Store data.
- Install Windows updates. Open Settings, go to Windows Update, select Check for updates, and install the updates Windows offers. Restart if Windows requests it, then test the Store again.
- Update Store apps. On Windows 11, open Microsoft Store and choose Library > Get updates. Windows 10 uses a version-specific Store navigation path; open the Store Library or Downloads-and-updates area and use its update command. Let the update process finish before retrying the app that failed.
If the problem is limited to one app, continue with the app-specific section below. If Store will not open at all, use the cache procedure. If downloads fail for many apps, skip to the download and managed-device sections rather than repeatedly reinstalling individual apps.
How do I reset the Microsoft Store cache when the Store will not open?
Use Microsoft’s wsreset.exe command. It resets the Store cache without requiring you to uninstall Microsoft Store or remove every Store app.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
wsreset.exeexactly, then select OK. - Wait while a blank Command Prompt window appears. Microsoft says the window closes after about ten seconds and Microsoft Store opens automatically.
- When the Store opens, install any available Windows updates and Store app updates, then retry the original action.
Do not close the blank Command Prompt window immediately; its brief appearance is expected. If the Store does not open after the window closes, restart Windows and run the same procedure once more. If it still fails, check the computer’s time and location settings before moving to support or administrator troubleshooting.
How do I check Windows time and location settings?
Incorrect date, time, time zone, or location settings can interfere with Store operations. Microsoft includes these checks in its Store launch and error-code guidance, so verify them after a cache reset or when the Store shows a connection-style failure.
- Windows 11: Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Turn on the automatic time and automatic time-zone options where available, or correct the values manually. Then open the privacy and location settings and confirm that Windows can determine the device’s location if your setup requires location services.
- Windows 10: Open Settings > Time & Language > Date & time and verify the date, time, and time zone. Location controls are under Settings > Privacy > Location. The labels can vary slightly by Windows update.
After changing a setting, close and reopen Microsoft Store. If the time and location were already correct, leave them unchanged and continue with the branch that matches the failure instead of repeatedly toggling them.
How do I repair one Microsoft Store app?
When the Store opens and only one downloaded app fails, repair that app before resetting it. Repair attempts to correct the app without deleting its data; reset is more disruptive and can remove the app’s local data, so use it only if repair does not help.

- Open Windows Settings and go to the installed-app list. Windows 11 generally labels this Apps > Installed apps; Windows 10 commonly uses Apps > Apps & features.
- Find the affected Store app, open its menu, and choose Advanced options when that option is available.
- Select Repair, wait for Windows to finish, and launch the app again.
- If repair does not resolve the failure, return to the same page and use Reset. Read Windows’ warning first because resetting can remove the app’s local settings or sign-in state.
- If the app still fails, uninstall that individual app and reinstall it from Microsoft Store Library. Reinstalling the affected app is different from attempting to remove Microsoft Store itself.
The exact Settings path and button names vary between Windows 10 and Windows 11, and some apps do not expose every control. If Advanced options is absent, use the app’s uninstall command and then reinstall it from the Store Library after confirming that you know the app’s sign-in details.
What should I do if the code is 0x80131500?
Error 0x80131500 is a specific Microsoft Store branch often shown with “Try that again.” Follow the general sign-in, restart, update, cache, and time/location steps first, then apply the additional checks Microsoft lists for this code.
Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter on Windows 10
Microsoft’s 0x80131500 instructions include the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter for Windows 10. Open Windows Settings, go to the troubleshooting area, select the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter, and follow its prompts. Microsoft scopes this instruction to Windows 10; do not assume the same troubleshooter is available or presented the same way on Windows 11.
Check TLS settings only for this code-specific branch
Microsoft’s 0x80131500 article also directs readers to check Transport Layer Security (TLS) settings. Treat this as a code-specific diagnostic, not a universal Store fix. If you change a TLS option, record its original state and restart the Store before testing again; avoid making unrelated security changes simply because another Store message appears.

Run one check at a time: cache reset, updates, time and location, then the Windows 10 troubleshooter or TLS check when applicable. Testing after each change shows which action mattered and avoids combining several changes that would be difficult to undo.
How do I fix Microsoft Store downloads that fail for every app?
When the Store opens but downloads fail across multiple apps, do not treat it as a single-app installation problem. First complete the account, restart, Windows Update, Store Library update, cache, and time/location checks. Then consider whether the PC is organization-managed or whether a network control is blocking Store endpoints.

Separate a Store-wide failure from an app listing problem
Try another free Store app or update an already installed Store app. If one listing fails while another operation succeeds, return to the app-repair steps. If every download or update fails, capture the exact message and code and move to policy and network checks rather than repeatedly resetting the same app.
Check for organization controls
On a work or school computer, an administrator may have disabled Microsoft Store access or restricted installation by policy. Local users often cannot change those controls. Ask the administrator whether Store access is allowed for your account and whether the device is subject to an application-installation policy.

Microsoft Learn’s Store download guidance tells administrators to check required firewall and proxy endpoints. A proxy that needs authentication, a filtered network, or a firewall rule that blocks Store traffic can produce repeated download failures even when web browsing works. Do not bypass organizational security controls; provide the administrator with the Store error code, the affected account, and the time of the failed attempt so the network logs can be checked.
What can an administrator check on a managed Windows PC?
Advanced registration and policy checks belong to an administrator or support technician, not to a casual user following a generic repair guide. Microsoft Learn documents a user-level Store registration procedure when the Store package exists, along with policy, firewall, proxy, and winget options for supported Windows client versions.
Verify Store registration
The administrator should first verify that Microsoft Store is registered for the affected user and that the Store package is present. Microsoft documents a user-level registration command for that situation. Use the command exactly as Microsoft Learn publishes it for the installed Windows version; do not substitute an elevated system-wide removal or reinstall command.
Review policy assignments
Check whether device-management or group-policy settings disable Store access, block app installation, or restrict which users can install applications. A policy change may be intentional, so the administrator should confirm the organization’s rule before altering it. If the policy is required, the correct resolution is an approved installation route rather than forcing Store access.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Check network endpoints
Review the firewall and proxy requirements listed in Microsoft Learn’s Store download guidance. Confirm that the user’s network can reach the required endpoints and that proxy authentication is functioning. Test on an approved alternate network only if organizational policy permits it; a successful test elsewhere indicates a network-path difference, not necessarily a damaged Store installation.
Use winget as an alternative installation path
Microsoft documents winget for searching for and installing Store apps. An administrator or experienced user can use the Windows Package Manager’s documented Store source and commands when the graphical Store download path is unavailable. The available result and installation behavior still depend on the app, account, Windows version, and organizational policy.
Do not try to uninstall Microsoft Store completely
Microsoft says complete Store uninstallation is unsupported. Removing package components with improvised commands can create a larger servicing problem and may not restore downloads. Use the documented registration procedure when it applies, or escalate to Microsoft support and the device administrator.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Microsoft Store problem on our end be caused by an outage?
The wording alone cannot establish an outage, and the cited Microsoft guidance does not treat it as a confirmed service-status diagnosis. Check whether the same account and device can perform other Store actions, then retain the exact code and time of failure for support rather than assuming the service is down.
Will resetting Microsoft Store with wsreset.exe delete my installed apps?
Microsoft documents wsreset.exe as a Store cache reset, not as a command to uninstall Store apps. It opens a blank Command Prompt window briefly and then launches the Store; app-specific data changes are associated with the separate Reset control in an app’s Advanced options.
Why does Microsoft Store work on my home network but not at work or school?
An organization network can use a proxy, firewall, or policy that restricts Store endpoints or app installation. Ask the administrator to compare the failing account’s policy and network path with the requirements in Microsoft’s Store download guidance instead of bypassing those controls.
What information should I save before reinstalling a Store app?
Record the app’s account or license details and confirm that important local data is synchronized or backed up. Reinstalling one app is a documented remedy, but the app’s own settings and offline data may not return automatically.
