The “No applicable app licenses found” message is usually a Microsoft Store licensing failure, not proof that your Minecraft purchase disappeared. Before reinstalling anything, make Microsoft Store, Xbox, and Minecraft Launcher use the same Microsoft account that owns Minecraft or carries your active PC Game Pass entitlement. Then reset the Store cache with WSReset, repair or reset the affected apps, install pending Windows and Store updates, and reinstall the Launcher only if those steps fail.
What does “No applicable app licenses found” mean in Minecraft Launcher?
Windows displays this message when the Store package installed on the computer cannot be matched with a valid license in the current Microsoft Store session. Minecraft Launcher relies on Microsoft Store and Xbox services for that validation, so a sign-in mismatch can stop the Launcher before the game interface appears.

The wording does not by itself prove that your purchase was revoked or deleted. Minecraft recommends confirming ownership through the Microsoft account Order History or the purchase-confirmation email before considering another purchase.
Why the Launcher checks more than one account session
The Store account supplies the license check, while the Xbox app and Launcher use Microsoft and Xbox services for access and related features. If those apps are signed into different Microsoft accounts, the computer can have a legitimate installation but no applicable license for the account currently being checked.

Minecraft describes the relationship this way: “The Launcher works in conjunction with Microsoft and Xbox services to validate your Minecraft license and provide access to advanced features such as Realms and parental controls.”
How can I confirm which Microsoft account owns Minecraft?
Use the account that appears in the original purchase record, not necessarily the account currently used to sign in to Windows. Confirming ownership first prevents an unnecessary repurchase or a reinstall that cannot solve an account mismatch.
Check Microsoft Order History
- Open your Microsoft account in a browser and go to Order History.
- Review completed purchases for Minecraft and note the email address of the account shown at the top of the page.
- If the purchase is not listed, search the purchase-confirmation email accounts you may have used. A different address may be the licensed account.
An active PC Game Pass for PC entitlement can also provide access. In that case, the Microsoft account carrying the current subscription must be the one used for the Store, Xbox app, and Launcher.
Compare the three sign-ins
- Microsoft Store: select the profile icon and inspect the signed-in email address.
- Xbox app: open the profile menu and verify it shows the same account.
- Minecraft Launcher: sign out from the account menu, then sign in with the owner or entitled Game Pass account.
After all three applications show the same licensed account, restart Windows and try the Launcher again. A restart forces the Store and Xbox services to establish a fresh session instead of continuing with stale credentials.
How do I fix the Minecraft Launcher license error step by step?
Follow the steps in order. They move from the most common cause—account identity—to Store cache and app maintenance, avoiding a reinstall until the licensing session has been corrected.

1. Sign out and align every account
- Open Microsoft Store, select the profile icon, and choose Sign out.
- Sign back in with the Microsoft account shown in Order History or the account with the applicable PC Game Pass entitlement.
- Open the Xbox app, sign out, and sign in with that same account.
- Open Minecraft Launcher, sign out, and sign in with the same account.
- Restart Windows, then launch Minecraft again.
Do not use one account in Microsoft Store and another in Xbox simply because both accounts are available on the computer. The license check follows the account carrying ownership or entitlement.
2. Reset the Microsoft Store cache with WSReset
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
WSResetand press Enter. - Wait while Windows resets the Store cache. Microsoft notes that a blank Command Prompt window may appear; after about ten seconds it should close and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
- When the Store returns, wait for it to finish loading, then retry Minecraft Launcher.
This operation targets Store cache state. It is a maintenance step for the licensing session, not a request to buy the game again.
3. Repair the Store, Xbox app, and Launcher
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store, open its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair and test the Launcher.
- Repeat the same process for Xbox and Minecraft Launcher if they are listed.
Repair is the less disruptive option. If the message remains, return to the same Advanced options page and choose Reset for the affected app. Reset is a deeper app-data cleanup, so you may need to sign in again afterward.
4. Install pending Store and Windows updates
- In Microsoft Store, open Library and install available updates for Minecraft Launcher, Xbox, Gaming Services, and Microsoft Store when they are offered.
- Open Settings > Windows Update and install pending Windows updates.
- Restart Windows after updates finish, even if the Store does not explicitly request it.
Current Store and Windows components are part of the installation and licensing path. An update can correct a compatibility or service-state problem, but no single update is guaranteed to clear this message on every computer.
5. Reinstall the Launcher only after maintenance steps
If account alignment, WSReset, repair/reset, and updates do not resolve the error, uninstall Minecraft Launcher and install it again through an official route: Microsoft Store or the Minecraft.net download route. Sign in with the verified licensed account immediately after installation.

Reinstalling before checking the account usually wastes time. A fresh package still cannot validate a license that belongs to a different Microsoft account.
Is this a purchase problem or a PC Game Pass entitlement problem?
Both ownership and PC Game Pass can provide access, but they are different ways to establish the license. The account carrying the applicable right must remain consistent across all three services.
| Access route | What establishes access | Account requirement | Best check when the error appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchased Minecraft | A completed Microsoft purchase recorded in Order History or supported by the confirmation email | The purchasing Microsoft account must be used in Store, Xbox, and Launcher | Verify Order History, then sign out and back in everywhere |
| PC Game Pass for PC | An active subscription entitlement that includes the applicable Minecraft access | The subscribed Microsoft account must be used in Store, Xbox, and Launcher | Check the subscription account and its current status before reinstalling |
Game Pass is not a general repair switch. If you already own Minecraft, changing subscriptions is unnecessary; if you do not own it, a valid subscription may explain why one account has access while another receives the license message.

Use an official installation route and keep the account check consistent. Microsoft Store is the native Store package route involved in the licensing message, while Minecraft.net provides the official download route for the Launcher.
- Choose Microsoft Store when you want Store-managed installation and updates and the Store is functioning normally.
- Choose the Minecraft.net route when the Store installation itself remains unusable after repair and reset, while still signing in with the account that owns Minecraft or has the applicable entitlement.
Changing the download route does not transfer ownership between Microsoft accounts. The license remains attached to the purchasing or subscribed account.

What should I avoid when this message appears?
- Do not buy Minecraft again first. Check Order History and the confirmation email to identify the original licensed account.
- Do not use unofficial or cracked launchers. They cannot repair Microsoft Store licensing and can create separate security and account risks.
- Do not run registry cleaners as a first response. The documented recovery path is account and Store maintenance, not registry editing.
- Do not assume hardware is responsible. A red-X license window appears before normal Launcher startup and points to account or Store validation rather than a physical accessory.
- Do not keep switching accounts without recording the owner. Repeated sign-ins can make it harder to tell which account was actually checked.
What if the license error remains after reinstalling?
At that point, stop repeating the same cache and reinstall cycle and contact Minecraft or Microsoft support. Provide enough context for the support agent to distinguish an ownership issue from a Store-session failure.
Prepare these details
- The exact text: “No applicable app licenses found.”
- Your Windows version.
- The Microsoft Store account currently signed in.
- Whether Minecraft appears in that account’s Order History.
- Whether access is based on a purchased copy or an active PC Game Pass for PC entitlement.
- Which actions you completed: account alignment,
WSReset, Repair, Reset, updates, and reinstall.
Support can then verify the account record and Store entitlement instead of treating the case as an unexplained Launcher crash. Include screenshots only if requested, and avoid sending passwords or security codes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can I tell which step changed the result?
Test the Launcher after each major stage rather than performing every action at once. This gives you a useful diagnosis:
- It works immediately after signing in: the previous Store, Xbox, or Launcher session was using the wrong account or stale credentials.
- It works after WSReset: the account was correct, but Store cache state prevented the license from being read.
- It works after Repair or Reset: one of the affected app packages had damaged or inconsistent local state.
- It works only after updates: an outdated Store, Windows, Launcher, Xbox, or Gaming Services component was part of the problem.
- It still fails after reinstall: ownership, entitlement, or Microsoft service-side validation needs to be checked by support.
Keep the account identified in Order History signed in during every test. Otherwise, a successful-looking reinstall can still reopen the same licensing failure.
What is the shortest reliable fix path?
Verify the purchase or Game Pass account, sign that account into Microsoft Store, Xbox, and Minecraft Launcher, restart Windows, run WSReset, repair or reset the affected apps, and install pending updates. Reinstall the Launcher only after those checks; if the message survives the complete sequence, provide the exact error and account evidence to official support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is “No applicable app licenses found” an official Microsoft error code?
The wording is generated by Windows during a Store licensing check, but it is not presented as a published Microsoft diagnostic code. Independent descriptions can explain the symptom, while Microsoft’s own guidance focuses on account validation, Store maintenance, and app repair.
Can this licensing failure affect Realms or parental controls?
Yes, license validation is also used for advanced Launcher features. Minecraft specifically identifies Realms and parental controls as services tied to the Launcher’s Microsoft and Xbox account validation.
Why does the error appear before the Minecraft Launcher window loads?
The Store entitlement check occurs as the installed Launcher package starts. If that check cannot match the current Store session to an ownership or Game Pass entitlement, Windows can show the licensing window before normal Launcher screens appear.
What should I do if my purchase is missing from Order History?
Search your other email accounts for the original purchase confirmation and identify the Microsoft account named there. If no account shows the transaction, give Microsoft or Minecraft support the exact error and any available purchase details rather than purchasing a second copy.
