Start with SteamOS and a full restart

Try a specific Proton version if the crash continues
- In the Steam Library, highlight Normal Golf Game and open its game menu.
- Choose Properties → Compatibility.
- Enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then choose the latest Proton version available in the list.
- Launch the game and note whether the crash changes. If you test another version later, record its name and the result so you can return to the default selection.
Valve’s Steam Deck support guidance says, “Try choosing the latest version of Proton.” This is a suggested troubleshooting step, not a Normal Golf-specific fix. No particular Proton version—including Proton Experimental or a community build—has been established as a confirmed workaround for this game.

What the September 2026 patch does—and does not—say
The first surfaced patch note, posted September 23, 2026, describes small bug and quality-of-life changes, including extra logic intended to prevent a “blank challenge” bug in the hybrid tutorial. It does not document a Steam Deck crash fix or say that the patch introduced the crash. Without a later developer statement, the sequence of an update followed by a crash is not enough to establish cause.
