Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First identify what “lag” means in your match: delayed input or rubberbanding usually calls for a connection check, while a low or uneven frame rate points to PC performance. Nuclear Nightmare has no verified universal fix for multiplayer lag, so use the symptom to choose what to test instead of changing several settings at once.
Identify the kind of lag you are seeing
Steam Support separates online latency from local performance problems. Note what happens, and whether it affects only you or other people in the lobby too:
- Delayed actions, rubberbanding, or teleporting: Your character’s movement may snap back or update late. These symptoms make the connection or lobby path worth checking first. A Steam Community player has reported rubberbanding and teleporting in co-op, but one report does not establish how common the issue is or diagnose your connection.
- Low or uneven frame rate, or stutter: The image itself slows or becomes choppy. Check your PC’s specifications and performance rather than assuming the server is responsible.
- Both at once: Track the connection symptoms and the frame-rate symptoms separately; more than one factor may be involved.
Steam Support explains: “Latency represents the amount of time it takes information to reach the server from your machine – higher latency means a greater likelihood of lag.” Steam Support’s Troubleshooting Lag article recommends checking server latency and region for online lag.
Check the server or lobby for connection-related lag
- Look at the server or lobby latency if your current build displays it. A higher reading can help explain delayed movement. Do not assume the game has a particular server-browser indicator if you cannot see one.
- Try a geographically nearer option if one is available. Compare how the same kind of match feels; Steam’s general advice is to consider server latency and region.
- If you play over Wi-Fi, compare with Ethernet when practical. Treat this as a test, not a guaranteed fix: the game requires broadband, but neither the store listing nor Steam Support says a cable will resolve Nuclear Nightmare lag.
- Ask whether other players notice the same movement issue. Record who is affected. This is useful diagnostic context, not proof of a particular cause.
Compare your PC with Nuclear Nightmare’s requirements
The Nuclear Nightmare Steam listing publishes these Windows requirements. They are specifications, not a guarantee that every system meeting them will run smoothly.

| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 | Not stated in the Steam listing |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X | Intel Core i7-8700 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce 1060 GTX or AMD Radeon RX 5700 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Not stated in the Steam listing |
| Network | Broadband internet | Not stated in the Steam listing |
Compare your Windows version, processor, memory, and graphics card with the listing. A PC below minimum specifications may struggle, while meeting or exceeding them does not rule out a performance issue.
Test changes one at a time
Make one adjustment, then try to reproduce the same symptom in a comparable situation. This makes it easier to tell whether that change mattered. A Steam Community discussion suggests testing graphics settings outside a multiplayer session and in single-player, but that is a player suggestion, not an official or confirmed Nuclear Nightmare fix.

If the problem is clearly low frame rate or stutter, start by checking whether your PC meets the listed requirements. If it is delayed or rubberbanding movement, prioritize the connection checks. Avoid treating a graphics change as a network fix, or a network change as proof that local performance is healthy.
Check for a current game-wide or build-specific issue
BG Productions’ Steam announcements and patch notes include changes involving networking or desynchronization, as well as graphics defaults adjusted for performance. That history shows those areas have received developer attention; it does not establish that a particular current problem is fixed, or that every similar symptom has the same cause. Check the current build and recent announcements before concluding an issue is universal or resolved.

Nuclear Nightmare is listed on Steam as an Early Access multiplayer game, and its listing notes that it may change as development continues. A reported problem can therefore depend on the build, but the available update history alone cannot identify the cause of an individual player’s lag.
