Konami’s support FAQ says your internet environment may cause matchmaking or connection failures, but it does not identify the cause of every lag problem or promise a specific fix. Try comparing Wi-Fi with a wired broadband connection, and check your online-play access if you cannot connect at all.
What kind of multiplayer problem are you seeing?
Konami calls the online mode LIVE CHAMPIONSHIP. Its PS5 FAQ on matching and connection failure says, “There may be a problem with your internet environment.” That is a possible explanation, not a diagnosis: the FAQ does not establish whether a particular incident is caused by your network, an opponent, matchmaking, or Konami’s services.

- Gameplay delay: The match starts, but actions appear delayed. The title FAQ does not provide a diagnostic for this specific symptom.
- Matching failure: You cannot find an opponent, or the connection fails after you are matched. Konami identifies your internet environment as a possible factor.
- Disconnection: The online match ends because the connection is cut. Konami warns that repeated cuts can affect your disconnection count and online-mode access.
Try these checks in order
- Confirm online access. Make sure the PS5 is connected to the internet. Konami says a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play online games; this is an access requirement, not a fix for lag during a match. See the subscription requirement in Konami’s FAQ.
- Compare Wi-Fi with wired broadband. If you play over Wi-Fi, test a wired connection if practical, then compare whether matching, delay, or disconnections change. Konami’s general PvP connection advice recommends broadband such as optical fiber and discourages wireless communication, including Wi-Fi and mobile tethering, because it can be unstable or disconnect during battles. This is general advice, not a guaranteed fix specific to this game. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one optional way to make the comparison; it cannot remedy every kind of delay or a problem outside your home connection.
- Note what actually happens. Record whether the issue is delay during a match, failure to match, a connection failure after matching, or a connection cut. These are different symptoms, and Konami’s FAQ does not explain every type of perceived lag.
- Pause online matches if disconnections keep occurring. Konami says an internet connection cut during an online game might increase the disconnection count. It warns that if the count continues to rise, you may eventually be unable to play online mode. The warning concerns connection cuts; it does not say that lag by itself necessarily increases the count. See the FAQ entry on disconnections.
What not to assume
The available title-specific guidance does not identify a particular PS5 setting, DNS value, port-forwarding rule, router model, or service outage as the solution. Nor does it show whether an individual lag event is local, opponent-side, matchmaking-related, or service-side. Avoid changing network settings on the assumption that one of these causes has been confirmed.
