Sign in with the account that bought the game, verify the purchase in that account’s transaction history, and determine whether access comes from another user’s purchase or from PlayStation Plus. The owning account must enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 you are using. Then restore licenses, check PlayStation Network status and system software, and use the official Safe Mode database repair if the lock remains.
What the padlock means on PS5
The padlock icon means the signed-in user cannot currently validate a license for that content. It does not prove that the game was never purchased, that the installation is corrupt, or that the console has permanently lost the game. PlayStation’s locked-game guidance treats several causes separately: the wrong account may be active, Console Sharing and Offline Play may not be enabled on the console, a PlayStation Plus entitlement may have expired or left the service, PSN may be unavailable, or the local license information may need to be refreshed.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Start with entitlement ownership rather than deleting the game. A title appearing in the home screen or library only shows that it is installed or associated with the console; it does not establish that the current user owns the license.
Identify which entitlement should unlock the game
| Access source | Condition required | Typical lock clue | First action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase by the currently signed-in account | The purchase is present in that account’s transaction history | The game is locked even though the user expects to own it | Sign in to the purchasing account and verify the transaction |
| Purchase by another user on the same PS5 | The owner has enabled Console Sharing and Offline Play on this PS5 | The owner can access the game, but another local user sees a padlock | Have the owner enable sharing on this console |
| PlayStation Plus entitlement | The subscription is active and the title remains available through the service | The game was claimed through Plus rather than bought outright | Check subscription status and the title’s current availability |
| License validation after a change or interruption | PSN can confirm the account and the local license data is current | The game worked before, then became locked after a console, account, or service change | Restore licenses, then check service status and system software |
Check the purchasing account first
Sign out of the user who is seeing the padlock and sign in with the account that originally bought the game. Open that account’s transaction history and confirm that the purchase completed. If the transaction is absent, you may be checking the wrong account, a different regional account, or a purchase that did not complete. Do not treat the console’s current user as proof of ownership.

If the owner can launch the game but another user cannot, the purchase itself is probably valid; move to the sharing setting below. If even the owner cannot validate it, continue with license restoration and the service checks rather than changing unrelated hardware.
Separate a purchase from PlayStation Plus access
A game obtained through PlayStation Plus has two independent conditions. The subscription must still be active, and the title must still be available through the service. A Plus game can therefore become locked even when Console Sharing is configured correctly. Confirm both conditions on the account that claimed the game before treating the problem as a sharing failure.
Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 being used
PlayStation’s current name for the sharing feature is Console Sharing and Offline Play. It belongs to the account that owns the game, and it must be enabled on the particular PS5 where other users are expected to play. When enabled, other users of that PS5 can play the owner’s purchased and downloaded games, including when the console is offline.
- Sign in on the PS5 with the account that purchased or otherwise owns the game.
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Open Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
- Switch back to the intended user and launch the game again.
The owner must perform this setting change; enabling it from a non-owning user does not grant that user the license. If the game is still locked immediately afterward, restore licenses while signed in to the owner’s account, then retry from the other profile.
Moving sharing from an old PS5
Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on only one PS5 at a time for an account. If the owner recently replaced or added a console, the previous PS5 may still hold the activation. Disable sharing on that old console before enabling it on the new one, then repeat the menu path above.
When the old console is inaccessible, PlayStation Account Management provides a remote option to deactivate all devices. That all-device remote deactivation is limited to once every six months, so use it deliberately: it affects the account’s device activations and is not a routine refresh button. After the remote deactivation, sign in on the intended PS5 and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play there.
Restore the PS5 licenses
Restoring licenses asks PlayStation to refresh the content entitlements associated with the account. PlayStation states that this operation does not affect saved data.

- Sign in with the account that owns the game or the relevant PlayStation Plus entitlement.
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select the relevant license or licenses and allow the process to finish.
- Return to the game and test it from the account that should have access.
You can also restore a single game from the home screen or game library: highlight the title, press the Options button, and choose Restore License. Use the account that owns the content for this shortcut as well.
License restoration is appropriate after enabling sharing, changing consoles, recovering an account, or encountering a padlock after a PSN interruption. It does not convert a PlayStation Plus title into a permanent purchase and cannot create an entitlement that is missing from the owner’s transaction history.
Check PSN service and PS5 system software
A padlock can be caused by a temporary network or service-side validation problem. Before making disruptive changes, check PlayStation’s official locked-game troubleshooting page and the current PlayStation Network service status: PlayStation troubleshooting for downloaded games and locked games. If the status page reports an outage or service alert, wait for recovery and try the game again instead of repeatedly changing account settings.
On the console, install the latest available PS5 system software. An outdated system can prevent a current license check from completing even when the account and sharing configuration are correct. After updating, restart the PS5, sign in to PSN with the owner account, and test the title again.
Use Safe Mode only after the entitlement checks
If ownership, subscription eligibility, Console Sharing and Offline Play, license restoration, PSN availability, and system software are all in order, use PlayStation’s official Safe Mode troubleshooting path. Start the PS5 in Safe Mode and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. The same PlayStation troubleshooting guidance explains the database rebuild step.
This operation targets cached or database information that can interfere with how installed content is presented. Follow the on-screen instructions and let the process complete. Do not begin by resetting the console or reinstalling every game: the official locked-game flow places account, sharing, license, service, and database checks ahead of disruptive reset steps.
When the error code is CE-109245-1
PlayStation defines CE-109245-1 as: “The license information of the content can’t be confirmed.” Use the code-specific sequence from PlayStation’s support page: PS5 error code CE-109245-1.

- Restart the PS5.
- Sign in to PSN with the account that owns the content.
- Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on that PS5.
- Retry the game.
If the code continues, apply the broader sequence in this guide: verify the transaction or Plus entitlement, restore licenses, check PSN status and system software, and then use Safe Mode’s cache and database option.

The owner can play, but a second profile cannot
Check that the owner account—not the second profile—enabled Console Sharing and Offline Play on this exact PS5. Confirm that the owner is not sharing to another PS5 at the same time. Once the setting is enabled, the second profile should retry the downloaded game.
The owner sees a padlock too
Verify the purchase in the owner’s transaction history or confirm the active Plus subscription and title availability. Then restore licenses. If the lock appeared during a service incident, wait for PSN recovery before judging the account configuration.
The game was bought, but the transaction cannot be found
Check every account that may have been used to buy it, including a different regional account. Only the account with the completed transaction can supply the purchase entitlement. If no account shows the transaction, contact PlayStation Support with purchase details rather than buying the game again solely to test the lock.
The lock appeared after changing consoles
On the new PS5, sign in with the purchasing account and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. If the previous PS5 still has the feature enabled, disable it there first. If that console cannot be reached, consider the once-per-six-month remote all-device deactivation limit before using Account Management.

- Note which profile sees the padlock and whether the title was purchased outright or obtained through Plus.
- Sign in with the owner account and confirm the transaction or Plus entitlement.
- On that same account, verify that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the PS5 in use.
- Restore the relevant license, then return to the profile that normally plays the game.
- Check PSN service status and install any pending system software update.
- Restart and test again. Only if the lock persists should you use Safe Mode’s cache and database option.
This order prevents a common mistake: trying database repair or deleting an installation before proving that the account has a valid entitlement. Each step isolates a different failure point, so record what changed and whether the owner profile could launch the game after each test.
Requirements and common pitfalls
- Use the owning account for account-level actions. A second local user cannot enable sharing for someone else’s purchase or restore a license that is not attached to that user.
- Use the exact PS5 where access is needed. Enabling sharing on a different console does not help the console displaying the padlock.
- Remember the one-console limit. An account cannot have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on two PS5 consoles simultaneously.
- Do not spend the remote deactivation casually. Account Management’s remote all-device deactivation can be used only once every six months.
- Do not confuse visibility with ownership. An installed game, a library tile, or a downloaded copy is not proof that the signed-in profile bought the license.
- Do not treat Plus access as a permanent purchase. The subscription must be active and the game must remain available through the service.
- Do not repeatedly retry during an outage. A PSN service alert can produce a temporary padlock even when settings are correct.
- Do not buy hardware to solve an entitlement error. A controller, storage expansion, extra PS5, or network device cannot grant a missing license.
If restoring licenses does not unlock the game
First confirm that the restore was performed on the owner account, not merely on the profile that plays the game. Then check the owner’s transaction history again and verify that the game is not actually a Plus title with an inactive subscription. If the entitlement is valid, confirm sharing on the current PS5, restart the console, and check PSN status. A restore cannot repair an absent transaction, bypass the one-console sharing limit, or extend a Plus entitlement that has ended.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen several games show padlocks at once, suspect account or service validation before blaming one installation. When only one title is affected, compare its purchase source and region with a title that works, then restore that individual license from the game’s Options menu. Keep the game installed while testing; deleting it removes a variable without fixing ownership and may require another download.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to contact PlayStation Support
Escalate after the official sequence has been completed and the correct owner account still cannot validate the game. Use the support route linked from PlayStation’s locked-game troubleshooting page: troubleshoot downloaded PlayStation games.
Give support enough information to reproduce the failure:
- The exact error code or on-screen message.
- The account type involved: direct purchase, another user’s purchase through Console Sharing and Offline Play, or PlayStation Plus.
- The steps that reproduce the padlock, including which profile launches the game.
- The date and time of a recent access attempt.
- A screenshot or video of the lock or error, if available.
Do not remove the installation or purchase replacement hardware as a first response. A controller, storage expansion, additional console, or network device cannot grant a missing license. The relevant remedy is almost always an account entitlement check, sharing activation, subscription verification, service recovery, license restoration, or the official PS5 database troubleshooting path.

How do I enable PS5 game sharing?
Sign in with the purchasing account and open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then select Enable. The setting must be enabled on the PS5 where other users will play.
Can two PS5 consoles share one account’s games?
Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on only one PS5 at a time for an account. Disable it on the previous console before enabling it on a new one.
Will restoring licenses delete my games or saves?
No. PlayStation says restoring licenses does not affect saved data. It refreshes entitlement information associated with the account.
Why is a PlayStation Plus game locked when sharing is enabled?
Plus access requires an active subscription and continued availability of the title through the service. Sharing cannot replace either requirement.
What should I do if I no longer have the old PS5?
Account Management offers remote deactivation of all devices, but that action is limited to once every six months. Use it deliberately, then sign in on the intended PS5 and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play.
What does CE-109245-1 mean on PS5?
PlayStation describes it as “The license information of the content can’t be confirmed.” Restart, sign in with the owning account, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play, and retry; then follow the broader license and service checks if needed.
Should I delete and reinstall a locked game?
Not as a first step. Reinstalling does not create an entitlement. Verify ownership, sharing, Plus status, licenses, PSN availability, and software before considering more disruptive actions.
What information should I give PlayStation Support?
Provide the exact error, the entitlement type, which profile reproduces the lock, the steps you followed, the date and time of the attempt, and a screenshot or video if available.
The Bottom Line
Start with the account that owns the game: verify its transaction or active PlayStation Plus entitlement, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on the PS5 in use, and restore licenses. Then check PSN status and system software. If the padlock remains, use Safe Mode’s cache and database repair and contact PlayStation Support with the error details.
