If Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart won’t launch or keeps crashing on PC, start by updating the game and your graphics driver, then compare your PC with the official requirements. These are sensible first checks, not a guaranteed fix: the right next step depends on your launcher, hardware, game version, error message, and when the crash occurs. Nixxes is now the PC support provider for the game; its support site is the official destination for unresolved PC issues.
Start with the checks that apply to most PC problems

Update the GPU driver and game
Nixxes advises: “For optimal performance, make sure you are using the latest drivers for your GPU and ensure your game is up to date.” Use the official driver page for your graphics-card maker: NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Avoid third-party driver-updater utilities.

Check which symptom you have
Note whether the game fails before reaching its menus, crashes after loading or during play, or remains open but stops responding. Also record your launcher, Windows version, hardware, game version, exact error text, and what you were doing when the failure occurred. These details help distinguish a startup failure from instability under load, a controller problem, or a save that blocks progress.

Compare your PC with the official requirements
Nixxes publishes the following PC targets. They are configuration targets, not guaranteed frame rates on every system. The minimum profile is aimed at 720p and Very Low settings; the recommended profile targets 1080p and Medium settings.

These figures come from Nixxes’ PC requirements and performance guidance. Check that the game has enough free space and that your PC meets the relevant OS, CPU, memory, GPU, and DirectX requirements. Falling below the minimum can make the game unsuitable for your system; meeting the minimum does not mean higher resolutions, quality settings, or ray tracing will run smoothly.

If the game launches, reduce graphics demand to test stability
If the crash happens after the game starts—especially when loading a demanding scene or using high settings—temporarily lower graphics demand and see whether the symptom changes. Nixxes says ray tracing is off by default and can place substantial load on both the CPU and GPU. Disabling ray-traced effects, lowering the graphics preset or texture quality, and using DLSS or FSR or Dynamic Resolution Scaling may reduce that load. Treat this as a diagnostic test, not a promised launch fix.
Use controller troubleshooting only for input problems
If the game launches but a controller behaves incorrectly, isolate that issue rather than treating it as a general crash. Nixxes lists support for DualSense, DualSense Edge, DualShock 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, XInput-compatible controllers, and Steam Deck; Steam Input can also provide controller configuration.

- Disconnect other controllers and test with only the one you intend to use.
- If you use Steam, try disabling Steam Input for the game.
- Try another USB port, or test a wired connection instead of wireless.
- A wired USB connection is required to use the full set of DualSense features.

Roll back only for the relevant Steam update problem
A rollback is not a general fix for crashes. Steam’s announcements describe particular historical fixes, including a Linux/configuration startup crash resolved in game version 1.815.0.0, and stability changes for specific hardware. A July 2026 announcement also advises players who encounter problems after that update to contact Nixxes and offers a Steam beta workaround.

Use that workaround only if you play through Steam and the problem began after the relevant update: open Steam Library → right-click Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart → Properties → Betas, then select Previous_Version if it is available. Steam’s official game announcements provide the version-specific context. A rollback can leave you on an older build, so it should not be the first step for an unrelated failure.

If a save is stuck, use the save-recovery guidance
A game that loads but cannot progress is different from a PC startup crash. For a progression block, Nixxes recommends restarting from the last checkpoint, trying a prior save, and then considering an automatic backup save. Before restoring a backup, make a separate copy of the save files: Nixxes warns that replacing a save this way can lose progress. Follow its stuck or unable to progress guidance for the restore steps; do not apply save recovery to a general launch problem.

Contact Nixxes if the checks do not resolve it
Nixxes became the PC support provider for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in an announcement dated March 19, 2026. Use the game’s PC section on Nixxes Support and submit a request if the issue persists. Include your launcher, Windows version, CPU, GPU, memory, game version, exact error message, and when the failure occurs. The available official guidance does not establish one cause or universal remedy for every crash or failure to load.
