If Resident Evil Requiem keeps crashing on your Steam Deck, start by updating and restarting SteamOS, then temporarily disable third-party apps, verify the game’s files in Steam, and retest with other apps closed. These are low-risk troubleshooting steps—not guaranteed fixes. Steam currently rates the game Playable, which means some manual tweaking may be needed, not that every setup is crash-free.
Try these fixes in order
After each step, launch the game and check whether the crash still happens. Changing one thing at a time makes it easier to identify what affected the problem.

Valve includes disabling third-party applications among its general stability steps. This is a troubleshooting check, not evidence that a particular app is causing your crash.

Its instructions include Windows-specific examples; use Steam’s client on the Deck rather than treating Windows paths as SteamOS paths. Close other running applications
Close other apps before launching the game, then test whether the crash recurs. Capcom’s support thread advises checking stability with other applications closed. This can help narrow down the conditions around a crash, but does not establish that background load is the cause in every case.

What the Steam Deck Playable rating means
Steam currently lists Resident Evil Requiem as Playable on Steam Deck. Valve uses that rating for games that may require manual tweaking; it is not a guarantee of stable performance on every Deck or software configuration. Compatibility ratings can change as games and Steam Deck software are updated, so check the game’s current Steam store or library compatibility details if you are reading this later. What the published PC requirements can—and cannot—tell you
Steam’s support listing gives Windows PC minimum requirements, including Windows 11, 16 GB of memory, specified desktop-class graphics hardware, and an SSD. Those are published PC requirements, not a diagnosis of why the game crashes on a Steam Deck, and they do not establish that the Deck is defective. Steam’s Resident Evil Requiem system requirements listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no confirmed universal crash fix
The official guidance supports general stability checks and asks players to report specific symptoms and reproduction steps; it does not identify one cause or guaranteed fix for all Steam Deck crashes. Use the ordered checks above to gather useful evidence, then pass that information to Capcom if the problem remains.
