Most Resident Evil problems on Nintendo Switch 2 come from choosing the wrong edition, using an account or region that does not match the purchase, or selecting a save-transfer method without understanding what it deletes. Identify the correct Switch 2 listing first, confirm ownership of the Nintendo Account, update both systems, and then choose the transfer method that fits your situation. This guide covers Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem.
Which Resident Evil Switch 2 edition do you need?
Capcom lists Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard for Nintendo Switch 2 with a February 27, 2026 release date. Village and 7 previously appeared on the original Nintendo Switch as cloud versions. That history matters: the older Switch cloud listing and the native Switch 2 listing are different download paths.

Before changing settings or transferring data, look at the game icon and its Nintendo eShop product page. You should be working with the Switch 2 edition of the title you intend to play, not an older Switch cloud release. An incorrect listing can make a legitimate purchase appear to be missing or can send you toward an upgrade option that does not apply to your copy.

- Resident Evil Requiem: use the Nintendo Switch 2 game listing.
- Resident Evil Village: distinguish the native Switch 2 edition from the earlier Switch cloud version.
- Resident Evil 7 biohazard: distinguish the native Switch 2 edition from the earlier Switch cloud version.
Capcom describes Resident Evil Requiem as the ninth main installment in the series. That does not change the transfer rules, but it helps explain why a new Switch 2 product page can coexist with older Switch listings.

Do these checks before troubleshooting a download
Run the checks in this order. They separate an edition or entitlement problem from a network or setup problem, so you do not repeatedly download the wrong product.
- Confirm the listing. Open the title page and verify that it identifies the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Resident Evil 7, Village, or Requiem.
- Confirm the purchasing account. Open Nintendo eShop with the same Nintendo Account that bought the original game or upgrade. A different user profile can make an owned game look unowned.
- Finish Switch-to-Switch 2 setup first. Nintendo’s system-transfer instructions state that digital software is downloaded after setup and that an internet connection is required. Keep the Switch 2 online, complete setup, then open eShop and redownload the title or upgrade with the purchasing account.
- Match regions. Capcom warns that normal operation is not guaranteed when the game, DLC, update, save data, console, or account comes from another country or region. Use a matching regional account, base game, DLC, and update.
- Install updates. Update both consoles to their latest available system software and update the game before judging whether the installation worked. Nintendo’s save-transfer support flow starts with current system software, and Capcom treats title updates as region-sensitive.
If the game still does not appear after these checks, return to the eShop page and verify the account and product identity again rather than buying a second copy. The most common error is an entitlement attached to one account while eShop is open under another.
How the Switch 2 upgrade pack works
Nintendo allows an original physical or digital Switch game to gain Switch 2 features through a corresponding Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Upgrade packs can be obtained through Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Store, or a retailer code. Eligible Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members may be able to download certain upgrade packs at no additional cost, but Nintendo says that this applies only to select games and that the included content varies by title.
If you already own the original Switch game
- Insert the physical Switch cartridge, or make sure the digital original is owned by the Nintendo Account you are using.
- Open Nintendo eShop with that account.
- Search for the matching Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village, or the applicable title.
- Buy the pack, redeem the retailer code, or claim it through an eligible Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack benefit if Nintendo offers that title under your membership.
- Download the upgrade pack and then launch the Switch 2 edition.
The original game remains playable on Nintendo Switch; the Switch 2-specific features require a Switch 2 console. Owning the original copy does not mean that every Switch 2 product page is free, so check that the item is explicitly an upgrade pack rather than a full-game listing.
If you do not own the original copy
Buy the complete Nintendo Switch 2 edition or the native Switch 2 game listing. An upgrade-only listing assumes that the underlying Switch game is already attached to your account or available through the relevant physical copy. Without that ownership, the upgrade pack is not a substitute for the game itself.

If the upgrade pack is visible but unavailable
- Reopen eShop under the account that owns the original game.
- Check that the account, console, game, DLC, and update all use the same region.
- If you are relying on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, verify that your membership is active and that Nintendo lists this title as an eligible upgrade.
- Confirm that you selected the upgrade pack for the same Resident Evil title, not the older Switch cloud listing or a different edition.
Download problems after a Switch-to-Switch 2 transfer
A system transfer moves account and system information first; Nintendo says digital software is downloaded after setup. Therefore, a missing Resident Evil icon immediately after the transfer does not necessarily mean the purchase was lost.
Use the post-transfer redownload path
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet.
- Complete the console’s setup and account-linking screens.
- Open Nintendo eShop with the user whose Nintendo Account owns the game.
- Locate the Switch 2 edition or the owned upgrade pack.
- Start the download and leave the console online until it completes.
If the eShop shows only a purchase option, stop and check the account, region, and edition before paying. A transferred user profile is not proof that the profile currently open in eShop owns the game; the purchase entitlement belongs to the Nintendo Account.

There are three different approaches: a nearby save transfer for one game, a full local system transfer, and Nintendo Switch Online Save Data Cloud where the title supports it. They differ in scope and in what is permanently removed.
| Method | Best for | Requirements | What happens to the source | Irreversible action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nearby save transfer | Moving one game’s save between two consoles | Both consoles nearby, online, updated, and users linked to the same Nintendo Account | The selected save is deleted after sending | Sending removes the source save; overwriting removes an existing target save |
| Local system transfer | Moving a user’s Switch environment when both consoles are available | Both consoles and local communication during setup | Nintendo’s behavior differs by data type; cloud-compatible saves for linked users remain on the source and are copied to Switch 2, while other data may be deleted from the source | Data deleted from the old console cannot be recovered through that transfer |
| Server system transfer | Moving data when the consoles cannot complete a local transfer together | Internet access and the Nintendo transfer process | The source console is initialized after upload | The source is initialized; Nintendo holds the transfer on its server for up to one year before the download deadline |
| Save Data Cloud for Requiem | Backing up a supported Requiem save | Nintendo Switch Online membership | The local save remains unless you deliberately replace it | Restoring or replacing data can overwrite the target save |
Nintendo states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for nearby save transfer. Membership is required for Capcom’s Requiem Save Data Cloud backup.
Move one Resident Evil save with nearby transfer
Use nearby transfer when you want to move a particular save rather than migrate the whole console.

Prepare both consoles
- Place the original Switch and Switch 2 near each other.
- Connect both to the internet.
- Install the latest available system software on both.
- Make sure the relevant users are linked to the same Nintendo Account.
- Decide whether the target already contains a save you must preserve.
Send the save from the original console
- On the source console, open
System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console. - Select the Resident Evil save and choose the target console when it appears.
- On the Switch 2, open
System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Receive Save Data. - Complete the on-screen confirmation on both consoles.
This is a move, not a backup. Nintendo explicitly warns: “This does not create a copy of your save data. Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.” If the Switch 2 already has a save, choosing overwrite permanently removes that target save. Do not accept the overwrite prompt until you have decided which progress you want to keep.
Use a full system transfer when moving your Switch setup
A full transfer is broader than the nearby single-save function. It is appropriate when you are replacing the old console and want to move the linked user’s data and system environment rather than selecting only one Resident Evil save.
Local system transfer
Choose local communication when both consoles are available at the same time. Nintendo says cloud-compatible save data for linked users remains on the source and is copied to Switch 2 during a local transfer. Other data may be deleted from the source, so read the confirmation screens carefully and keep any data you still need on another supported backup before accepting.
After the transfer, digital software is downloaded again rather than physically copied from the old console. That is why the Switch 2 needs an internet connection and why Resident Evil may appear in your library before its playable download is complete.
Server system transfer
A server transfer uploads the data, initializes the source console, and stores the transfer on Nintendo’s server. Nintendo states that the transfer remains available for up to one year before its download deadline. Use this option only when you understand that initializing the source is part of the process; it is not a temporary duplicate of the old system.

If you have not yet downloaded the transfer to the Switch 2, do not initialize, sell, or discard the old console expecting to retrieve data from it locally. The server-transfer window and Nintendo Account access are what preserve the pending move.
Can a PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic save be imported?
No. Capcom states that “Crossplay and cross-saves between platforms are not supported.” A save created on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic cannot be imported into the Switch 2 version through a Capcom cross-save feature. Nintendo’s transfer tools move saves between compatible Nintendo consoles; they do not convert saves from another platform.
The practical boundary is the platform account and save format. Even if you use the same Capcom account or own the same game elsewhere, that does not create a supported path to Switch 2 progression.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use Save Data Cloud correctly for Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom’s Requiem FAQ says that Nintendo Switch 2 players can create a backup of their save data with Save Data Cloud and that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. This is a backup route, not a cross-platform conversion tool.
When cloud backup helps
- You are replacing or resetting a Switch 2 and want a supported online copy of a Requiem save.
- You need an alternative to a nearby transfer and already maintain Nintendo Switch Online.
- You want a recovery point before changing consoles, provided the backup has completed successfully.
What cloud backup does not solve
- It does not make a PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic save compatible.
- It does not remove the need for the correct Switch 2 edition and matching account region.
- It does not protect a save that was never uploaded successfully.
- It does not make an overwrite warning reversible.
Capcom’s stated cloud-support information in this guide is specific to Requiem. Do not assume that the same Save Data Cloud entitlement or procedure applies identically to Resident Evil 7 biohazard or Resident Evil Village.

Fix region and account mismatches
Capcom does not guarantee normal operation when regions are mixed among the game, DLC, update, save data, console, and account. A mismatch can present as a missing upgrade, an update that will not apply, or a save that does not load as expected.
Match every component
- Account: use the Nintendo Account that owns the base game or upgrade.
- Base game: use the regional Switch 2 listing that corresponds to the account and physical copy.
- DLC: obtain add-on content from the same region as the game.
- Update: download the title update through the matching regional listing.
- Save: keep the save with the same title and regional entitlement that created it.
- Console: avoid assuming that a console bought in one country will make unrelated regional purchases interchangeable.
If you have mixed regions, correct the entitlement and update path before attempting another save transfer. Moving a save does not repair an incompatible game or DLC region.
Symptom-based troubleshooting
| Symptom | Most likely checkpoint | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The game is absent after setup | Digital software has not been redownloaded yet, or eShop is open under the wrong account | Finish setup, connect to the internet, open eShop with the purchasing account, and redownload the correct Switch 2 listing |
| The eShop offers only a full purchase | You selected a native game listing without owning it, or the account does not own the original | Use the full Switch 2 edition if you do not own the original; otherwise locate the matching upgrade pack under the owning account |
| An upgrade pack is unavailable | Account, region, edition, or Expansion Pack eligibility mismatch | Match the account, game, DLC, update, and region; verify that the membership benefit covers that title |
| The save is missing on Switch 2 | The transfer was not completed, the wrong user was selected, or the save belongs to another platform | Confirm the Nintendo Account and use the appropriate Nintendo transfer method; PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic saves cannot be imported |
| A transfer asks to overwrite a save | The target already has progress | Stop and decide which save to keep; accepting permanently removes the existing target save |
| The old console no longer has the save | A nearby transfer already moved it, or a system transfer changed the source | Nearby transfer deletes the source save; server transfer initializes the source, so recovery depends on a completed compatible cloud backup or the pending server transfer |
| The title updates but will not behave normally | Regional mismatch | Use a matching regional account, base game, DLC, update, save data, and console configuration |
Irreversible actions to understand before you confirm
Three warnings deserve special attention because they cannot be undone by simply reinstalling the game.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Nearby send deletes the source save. Nintendo describes the operation as a move, not a copy.
- Target overwrite deletes the target save. If Switch 2 already contains progress, accepting the overwrite permanently removes that file.
- Server system transfer initializes the old console. The source is reset after upload, and the server-held transfer has a maximum storage period of up to one year.
Choose nearby transfer when you intentionally want one save moved, local system transfer when you are migrating the console with both systems present, and server transfer only when its initialization and one-year download window fit your situation. Use Requiem Save Data Cloud when you need a supported online backup and have Nintendo Switch Online.
Quick Recap
A practical decision path
- Is the title wrong? Replace the older Switch cloud listing with the native Switch 2 edition for Resident Evil 7, Village, or Requiem.
- Is ownership wrong? Sign into eShop with the Nintendo Account that owns the original game or upgrade.
- Is the upgrade route wrong? Owners of the original copy need the corresponding Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack; people without it need the complete Switch 2 game.
- Is the download timing wrong? Complete system setup, stay online, then redownload digital software.
- Is the region wrong? Match the account, game, DLC, update, save, and console region.
- Is the save location wrong? Use nearby transfer for one moved save, full system transfer for a console migration, or Requiem Save Data Cloud for a supported online backup.
- Is the source another platform? There is no supported Capcom cross-save path from PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic.
