Identify your controller before choosing a fix
This guidance covers the DualSense Edge and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Their repair designs are different: Sony provides a replaceable Edge stick module, while Microsoft’s Series 2 repair material covers internal component disassembly and reassembly. Do not use an Edge module procedure for an Elite controller.

Fix stick drift on a DualSense Edge
1. Reset the controller
PlayStation lists resetting the DualSense Edge as a troubleshooting step and directs users to its repair flow if problems remain. Try the reset before buying a replacement module. See PlayStation’s DualSense Edge troubleshooting and repair guidance.
2. Replace the stick module if it is faulty
PlayStation support says, “If a stick module doesn’t work properly or stops working, you can replace it with a new stick module (sold separately).” Left and right Edge modules are interchangeable. Use a replacement made for the DualSense Edge; the PlayStation stick module product page identifies the compatible part. Stock and availability may vary by country.

- Turn off the controller and disconnect its USB cable.
- Use the rear RELEASE latch to remove the front cover.
- Raise the release lever and remove the stick module.
- Slide the replacement module into the grooves until it clicks.
- Lower the lever and reattach the front cover.

Fix stick drift on an Xbox Elite Series 2
Do not follow the Edge module-swap steps: Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Series 2 repair guidance covers internal component disassembly and reassembly. It identifies electrostatic-discharge (ESD) precautions and tools including an anti-static wrist strap, ESD-safe mat, plastic pry tool, and Torx drivers for applicable steps. Microsoft warns that improper tools or incompatible or modified parts can cause injury or damage. Consult the model-specific Xbox Elite Series 2 safety and repair instructions before attempting internal service.

Before opening the controller, check Microsoft’s service options and whether your controller is eligible for warranty support. Eligibility and service terms can depend on your region and case. Internal repair is an advanced route for someone able to follow the guide and its safety requirements; the guide does not establish that a particular part replacement or cleaning method will fix every drift complaint.

If the supported step for your model does not solve the problem, or the controller has other damage, contact the manufacturer’s support or repair service rather than assuming a repair will qualify for warranty coverage. PlayStation’s hardware support page provides a repair entry point. Check your region’s available service options and costs directly with the manufacturer; a universal repair price or warranty outcome is not established.
