First identify what “lag” means: low or fluctuating FPS and visual hitching usually call for PC performance checks; delayed response or rubber-banding points to an online connection or session issue; lobby errors and race disconnections may be service-side. Does the problem also happen outside multiplayer, and did it start after an update? Those clues help separate the causes—an SSD or graphics setting can help local loading and frame rate, but it will not fix network latency.
Identify which kind of lag you are seeing
| What you notice | Where to investigate |
|---|---|
| Low or uneven FPS, brief freezes, or textures appearing late | Local performance: hardware, storage, graphics settings, and drivers |
| Delayed responses or other players moving erratically while your frame rate looks normal | Online connection or session behavior |
| Lobby errors, failed matchmaking, or being disconnected from a race | Service-side problems or session handling may be involved |
Try to notice whether the problem occurs in solo or free-roam play as well as multiplayer. If it does, local performance is more likely to be part of the issue. If it is limited to online sessions, check for official maintenance or issue notices before changing PC hardware or network settings. This is a way to narrow the cause, not a guarantee of diagnosis.

Check the PC requirements
The current Steam listing specifies Windows 10, 12 GB of RAM, 110 GB of available storage, and an SSD as mandatory. It lists these minimum graphics cards: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB, AMD Radeon RX 570 with 4 GB, or Intel Arc A380 with 6 GB. Its recommended graphics cards are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6650 with 8 GB. These are the listing’s baseline requirements, not a promise of smooth performance in every scene or on every system. Check the Steam listing for the current requirements.

The developer says HDD read speed can be insufficient to display all map textures and can significantly lower framerate. If the game is installed on a hard drive, moving it to an internal SSD may address loading and frame-rate symptoms. That advice concerns local performance; an SSD does not reduce online latency. The developer’s launch feedback and next steps explains the storage issue.

Adjust graphics settings and update drivers
Lower or adjust demanding graphics settings to find a workable balance between image quality and frame rate. The developer specifically mentions NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR as possible aids where supported by the hardware and available settings, and recommends updating graphics drivers. These steps target rendering performance and visual hitching, not lobby failures or lag caused by an online session. See the developer’s PC optimization guidance.

Check official notices first
Look at the game’s official announcements for maintenance, a newly reported issue, or a relevant update before troubleshooting your PC. The official Season 7 patch notes are dated 2 September 2026, and a “Season 7 – Hotfix & Compensation” announcement dated 4 September 2026 said a hotfix was in progress after issues at the season release. Those posts are historical context; they do not establish that an outage is active now or confirm that a particular fix has since shipped. Check the official Steam announcements for current notices.

Understand why the issue may be service-side
In its first major patch announcement on 30 September 2024, the development team listed fixes involving login errors, lobbies, race disconnections, saves, and other server-related problems, alongside performance improvements. Later developer communications described continuing work on session management, grouping, matchmaking, and network infrastructure. The Lead Online Developer, Sylvain, described the planned “Servers v2” work as an effort to improve connection stability, reduce latency, and help players see one another in the open world. This history shows that online and local performance issues are distinct categories; it does not identify the cause of any individual player’s current problem. Read the first major patch notes and the developer’s archived announcements.
If frame rate is steady but you see repeated online delay, matchmaking trouble, or race disconnections, changing graphics settings is unlikely to resolve the underlying session issue. The official material cited here does not establish router, DNS, port-forwarding, VPN, or “gaming optimizer” changes as fixes for this game’s multiplayer lag, so avoid treating them as proven remedies.
