The “You Disconnected from the Server” error means Among Us lost contact with a game service or stopped receiving its acknowledgements; it does not, by itself, prove your Wi-Fi is at fault. Retry the lobby, switch regions with the globe icon, then relaunch the game and test your connection. If the problem affects several players, every region, or multiple networks, it is more likely to require a service recovery or game update than a change to your device.
What does “You Disconnected from the Server” mean in Among Us?
Among Us needs a continuing connection between your game and the service handling a session. This message means that connection stopped working or the game did not receive acknowledgements in time. The failure could be somewhere along your network path, with the selected region, in the game client, in a private-server setup, or with Innersloth’s service. The wording alone cannot identify which one.

That distinction matters: a disconnect is evidence of a failed connection, not proof that your home network is broken. The game may lose contact even when other internet activities still work, and a service or client issue can look much like a local connection problem.
What does “Reliable packet 1 … was not ack’d” mean?
An acknowledgement is a response indicating that data reached its destination. In a “Reliable packet 1 … was not ack’d” message, the game has not received an acknowledgement in time after sending data. Guides associate this pattern with server load, host selection, or connectivity problems, but the message does not establish which cause applies to your session.

What does “the remote has not responded” mean?
“Sent 6 pings that remote has not responded to” describes a failure to get a response from the remote connection. Innersloth documented a cross-platform issue involving that message in July 2023. Treat it as a connection symptom rather than a diagnosis of your Wi-Fi or a specific hardware fault.
What should I try first?
Use these steps in order. They start with low-effort checks and move toward changes that help distinguish a local connection issue from a broader one.
- Retry the lobby once. A transient service or host failure may clear on a new attempt. If the same error immediately returns, move on rather than repeatedly retrying without changing anything.
- Try another standard region. Open the region selector using the globe icon and choose another region. If the game works there, that is a useful sign that the original region or route may be unhealthy; it does not prove a lasting fault or explain its cause.
- Restart the game and your connection. Fully close Among Us, launch it again, then restart your device and reconnect to Wi-Fi or mobile data. If you can, test the game on a different network. A successful connection on another network points toward the original network path, though it does not identify a particular setting or device as the cause.
- Update Among Us. Install the current version available for your platform before testing again. Innersloth’s patch notes include documented disconnect bugs and direct players to update and report bugs. Different or outdated client versions can also prevent compatible sessions.
- Check whether the issue is broader. Ask whether other players are disconnecting, whether another region works, and whether a different network changes the result. If multiple players are affected across regions and networks, stop changing local settings and wait for service recovery or an official update.
- Contact Innersloth if it persists. Submit a Help Desk ticket with your platform, game version, region, exact error text, time of failure, and whether other players were affected. Innersloth’s contact and FAQ pages direct players to support for bugs and unanswered questions.
Is the problem on my device, my network, or Among Us’s servers?
No single symptom proves the cause. Compare what happens when you change one condition at a time: whether other players can connect, whether another region works, whether another network works, and whether your game is current.
| What you observe | What it suggests | Useful next check |
|---|---|---|
| Only your device or network fails while others can play | A client-side or local network-path cause is more plausible. | Relaunch the game and test another network if available. |
| The game works after you change networks | The original network path may be involved. | Note which network failed and include that result if you contact support. |
| Several players disconnect together | A service, host, or broader connection problem is more plausible. | Check another region once; if the problem remains widespread, wait for recovery or an official update. |
| No region works | A problem affecting the service or your broader route is more plausible than a single-region issue. | Compare results on another network before changing local settings further. |
| Your client is out of date or players have incompatible versions | A version mismatch can prevent players from joining compatible sessions. | Update the game and retry. |
These are practical indicators, not a guaranteed diagnosis. For example, one player’s successful connection does not establish that every player uses the same route or client conditions. The most useful information is the pattern across players, regions, networks, and game versions.
Why can switching regions help?
Among Us lets you choose a region through the globe icon. Trying another standard region is a practical test because a problem may be limited to the selected service or the route between your connection and that region. If another region works, you can use it as a temporary way to play while the original route or service issue clears.

If changing regions makes no difference, that does not prove the problem is on your device. The issue may affect more than one region, or it may be elsewhere in the connection path. Use the other checks—especially whether other players are affected and whether another network works—before deciding what to do next.

Yes. Innersloth has documented client-side disconnect bugs, so not every failure is caused by a player’s network. Its May 20, 2025 update noted that, in rare cases, accepting a game invite could disconnect a player from Among Us servers. The same update described players remaining on the Find Game screen when trying to join a lobby after a network disconnect.
That update is evidence that client behavior can contribute to connection trouble, not proof that every similar disconnect has the same cause. Make sure your game is current, then check the latest patch notes for fixes and report a persistent reproducible problem through the Help Desk.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if I use an Among Us private server or mods?
If you are joining an Impostor/Empostor private server instead of official matchmaking, ordinary player troubleshooting may not be enough. The project documentation associates “Reliable Packet 1” disconnects in that setup with version compatibility, HTTP reachability, the server’s public IP, and UDP/TCP port forwarding.
Those checks are for private-server operators or people responsible for that setup, not a general fix for official matchmaking. Confirm that the game client and private server are compatible, and have the operator check that the server endpoint is reachable and configured as intended. Do not change port-forwarding settings on your router merely because the same error appears in an official game; that advice applies to the private-server case.

When should I stop troubleshooting and contact support?
Stop cycling through local changes when the evidence points beyond one device or network. If multiple players are disconnected, no region works, or the issue persists across multiple networks, further changes to your own connection may not help. Wait for service recovery or an official update, and use the Help Desk if the problem continues.
Include details that let support distinguish your case from a general report:
- Your platform and the game version installed.
- The region selected when the error occurred.
- The exact message, including any “Reliable packet” or “remote has not responded” wording.
- When the failure happened.
- Whether other players were affected, whether another region worked, and whether another network changed the result.
- Whether you were using official matchmaking or a private server.
A specific report is more useful than “the game keeps disconnecting”: it records the conditions under which the issue occurs and the checks already tried.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the “remote has not responded” message mean someone kicked me?
The wording describes a remote connection that did not respond to pings; it does not identify a player action as the cause. Innersloth documented a cross-platform issue involving this message on July 11, 2023.
Why do I stay on the Find Game screen after a disconnect?
In its May 20, 2025 update, Innersloth noted that players may remain on Find Game when trying to join a lobby after a network disconnect. Relaunching the game is a reasonable first recovery step if the screen does not recover.
How often does this exact Among Us error happen?
There is no authoritative published statistic establishing the frequency of this exact disconnect error. Individual reports cannot establish how common it is or which fix works most often.
