The fastest fix is not reinstalling the game: first check EA’s server-status page and your platform’s service status. If EA, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Steam services are operational, restart the game, launcher, console or PC, and router. Then check subscriptions, account linking, updates, cache, game files, and your network in that order.
1. Check whether EA or your platform is down
“Unable to connect to EA servers” can be caused by EA authentication, a game-specific outage, your console or PC platform, your EA account, or your home network. A working web connection does not prove that EA login or matchmaking is working.
- Open EA’s official server-status page.
- Check the individual game, the EA app, and EA Play—not just the general page.
- Check the relevant platform: Xbox services, PlayStation Network, Nintendo services, or Steam.
- Look for official EA service updates and the game’s official social account.
- Ask whether friends or other players have the same problem.
If the status page shows an outage, stop troubleshooting locally. Reinstalling the game, changing DNS, clearing cache, or opening router ports cannot restore a server that is offline. Retry after EA reports recovery.
Use the symptoms to identify the likely cause

2. Try the two-minute fix
- Close the game completely.
- Close and reopen the EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, or console launcher.
- Restart your PC or console.
- Restart the router: turn it off, unplug it, wait about one minute, plug it back in, and wait for the connection to return.
- Launch the game and try again.
- If possible, test with another network or a mobile hotspot.
A hotspot is a diagnostic test, not necessarily a good permanent gaming connection. Mobile networks can have higher latency, restrictive NAT, data limits, or inconsistent service.

3. Fix EA connection problems on PC
Clear the EA app cache
Cache clearing can help when the EA app is stuck offline or will not update. It does not fix an EA outage.
If the EA app opens on Windows:
- Open the three-line menu in the upper-left.
- Select Help.
- Select App recovery.
- Select Clear cache.
If the EA app will not open on Windows 10 or Windows 11:
- Open Start and select All Apps.
- Expand the EA folder.
- Select App Recovery.
- In the confirmation window, select Clear Cache.
On macOS: Open Help from the top menu, select App Recovery, then select Clear Cache. See EA’s current cache instructions if the labels differ.
Update, repair, or verify the game
- Install pending updates for the launcher and game.
- In the EA app, open the game’s menu and choose Repair where available.
- For a Steam installation, use Steam’s installed-game file verification function.
- For an Epic Games Store installation, use Verify.
Use the launcher through which you bought or installed the game. Menu labels can vary by launcher and game version. Restart the launcher after repairing or verifying files.

Remove common PC interference
Temporarily close VPNs, proxy tools, overlays, bandwidth-heavy downloads, cloud-sync clients, and unnecessary background applications. They can alter routing, consume bandwidth, or interfere with the game. Do not permanently disable antivirus or firewall protection. If you create a temporary firewall exception for testing, restore the normal protection setting afterward.
Also enable automatic synchronization for the date, time, and time zone. An incorrect system clock can interfere with authentication and secure connections.
4. Fix the problem on PlayStation
- Check PlayStation Network status.
- Confirm that the required PlayStation online multiplayer subscription is active for the game. Requirements vary by title, edition, and region.
- Check EA Play membership if the particular game or access method requires it.
- Fully close the game and restart the PlayStation.
- If ordinary restarts fail, use PlayStation Safe Mode to clear cache or rebuild the database.
To enter Safe Mode, turn off the console, then hold the power button until the second beep. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. Follow the official PlayStation Safe Mode guide for the options available on PS5 or PS4.
Do not choose Reset PS5, Initialize PS4, or reinstall system software as routine connection fixes. Those options can delete user data. PS5’s cache-clearing and database-rebuilding options are separate from a factory reset.

5. Fix the problem on Xbox
- Check Xbox service status and official Xbox Support updates.
- Confirm the required Xbox online subscription for the game. Free-to-play titles may follow different rules.
- Fully quit the game instead of leaving it suspended.
- Restart or power-cycle the Xbox, then restart the router.
- Install pending console and game updates, along with any EA app updates where applicable.
Use Xbox’s current restart and power-cycle instructions; exact menu labels may change.
6. Fix the problem on Nintendo Switch
- Check Nintendo service status and the specific game’s online-service status.
- Confirm Nintendo Switch Online access if that title requires it.
- Restart the Switch.
- Clear the system cache using Nintendo’s current support instructions.
- Check whether the game still supports online play in your region.
EA titles on Switch do not all have identical account or subscription requirements, so check the particular game rather than assuming one rule applies to every title.
7. Check your EA account
If the problem follows your account across multiple devices or networks, investigate the account rather than repeatedly changing router settings.
- Sign in through the official EA website and check for security notifications.
- Check whether the account is banned or suspended. EA says suspended or banned accounts cannot play online.
- Check whether the account was deactivated or deleted.
- If you see an “account already in use” message, sign out of EA on other devices before trying again.
- Confirm that the expected PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or other platform account is linked.
- Check password, login-verification, and recovery problems.
- Review child-account restrictions, which can limit online play or social features.
Do not unlink accounts impulsively. Changing linked accounts can create additional access, entitlement, or progression problems. If the game launches through Steam or another storefront, verify that it is connected to the intended EA account.

8. Check subscriptions and entitlements
Depending on the game and platform, online access may require both an EA account and a valid console online-multiplayer entitlement. EA Play is not automatically a replacement for that platform entitlement.
Requirements vary by game, edition, platform, and region. Free-to-play games may have different subscription rules. Confirm the entitlement on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo before treating the error as a network fault.

For disconnections during matches
Login failures and mid-match disconnections are not always the same problem. Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi where possible. Wi-Fi distance, walls, interference, and crowded channels can reduce stability. Satellite and some mobile connections may also be less consistent than wired broadband.
Look beyond download speed: packet loss, latency, jitter, NAT behavior, and ISP routing can matter more than the advertised bandwidth. Pause downloads and cloud backups on other devices, and note whether the problem occurs at a particular time of day.

Try DNS only after the basic checks
DNS translates service names into network addresses. An unreliable ISP resolver can contribute to login or connection failures, so switching to a reputable alternative such as Google DNS or OpenDNS may help in some cases. EA does not operate those services and does not guarantee their availability or performance.
DNS will not fix an EA outage, account suspension, bad NAT, or corrupted game files. Record your original DNS settings before changing them and use your router or operating-system documentation for current platform-specific instructions. On Windows, ipconfig /flushdns only refreshes the local DNS cache; it is not a guaranteed EA-server fix.
Leave port forwarding until last
Port forwarding is router-specific and game-specific. A port list for Apex Legends, EA Sports FC, Battlefield, Madden, or another EA title may not apply to your game. Incorrect rules can create security and configuration problems.
Try restarting the router, using Ethernet, checking UPnP and NAT status, and testing another network first. Only use verified instructions for the exact game and platform, and remove unnecessary forwarding rules afterward.

10. Check whether the game’s online service was retired
Some older EA games have had their online services shut down. If the title appears in EA’s service-updates list, the connection failure may be permanent and cannot be solved by reinstalling the game or changing DNS.
When to contact EA Support
Contact EA after checking service status, restarting equipment, confirming subscriptions, and testing the account and network. Include:
- Game and platform.
- Exact error wording or error code.
- Your EA ID and region.
- When the problem began.
- Whether other EA games work.
- Whether other online games work.
- Whether another network or hotspot changes the result.
- What troubleshooting steps you already completed.
This information helps separate a game outage from an account, platform, or routing problem.
