Download the image from Microsoft
Use Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page and choose the supported route for your goal: Installation Assistant, Media Creation Tool, or ISO download. Save the ISO on the computer’s internal disk rather than directly on a removable drive. Use DVD only when it is intentional

Check free space on the system drive, the drive holding the ISO, and the destination volume. An external drive that disconnects under load can look like a space problem because Setup loses access to temporary files.
When should I investigate hardware?
