Verify the digits before changing anything
Read the value directly from the dialog, event record or application log. The documented value is 0x800004005. The similar-looking 0x80004005 is a different code, and the Microsoft repair described here is not automatically applicable to it. Record the program, window or action that was active when the error appeared; that context is needed to decide whether the UI Automation scenario matches.

- Open the current Microsoft Support page for the
0x800004005UI Automation timeout. - Read the problem description and compare it with your recorded operation. Do not proceed if the triggering call or symptom is different.
- Check whether a download section is available for Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and for your architecture.

How do you create the UI Automation Timeout DWORD?
Microsoft instructs administrators to create or modify a DWORD named Timeout under the UI Automation registry key. The value is expressed in milliseconds, but the article does not specify a numeric value. Therefore, do not invent a number or copy a value from an unrelated forum post; use the value supplied with the applicable Microsoft package or by Microsoft Support.

The computer is not on Service Pack 1
The documented hotfix requires Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. Do not force-install it on an earlier service-pack level. Is it safe to edit this registry value?
Editing the registry is appropriate only when the computer meets the documented conditions and you have a backup.
