Windows 11: open the troubleshooter
- Open Start > Settings.

When should I rebuild the Windows Update cache?

- Open
services.mscwith Win + R. - Open the Windows Update service and select Stop. Leave the Services window open.
- In File Explorer, open
C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution. - Delete the contents of that folder. Delete the contents, not the Windows folder itself.
- Return to Services, open Windows Update, and select Start.
- Restart Windows and run Check for updates again.
If a file cannot be deleted, the service may still be using it. Confirm that Windows Update is stopped, close any File Explorer window currently browsing the folder, and try again. Do not delete unrelated folders under C:Windows.
Should I run DISM and System File Checker?

Run the documented repair sequence
