Confirm you’re online and using the intended Xbox profile, check Xbox network status, then look at the game’s achievement list on your online profile. An achievement earned while disconnected may sync after the console reconnects; if it remains missing after you verify its exact requirements, the issue may be specific to that game.
1. Check Xbox connectivity and service status
Make sure the console is connected to Xbox services, then check the Xbox network status page. A service issue can interfere with account updates, but one missing achievement—or an old outage report—is not evidence of a current outage.
If achievements are failing across multiple games, start with connectivity, service availability, and the account record. If only one achievement in one game is affected, the game’s criteria or achievement implementation may be more relevant. This is a diagnostic distinction, not a formal Xbox rule.
2. Give offline achievements time to sync
If you earned an achievement while offline or your connection dropped, reconnect and allow time for the update. Microsoft’s GDK documentation explains that games can queue offline achievement unlock requests and that those requests auto-sync to Xbox services when the device reconnects. Validation can also delay the visible update. A Microsoft Q&A response from May 28, 2021 advises checking the online Xbox profile and notes that an achievement may need validation; it is older community guidance, not a current formal support policy. See the answer on Microsoft Q&A.
3. Check the achievement on your online profile
Inspect the affected game’s achievement list on the Xbox profile online. If the achievement appears there, the account record has synchronized, even if the console’s display or notification has not caught up. If it does not appear, continue with the checks below.

Xbox Support has a page for troubleshooting achievements and challenges. The page’s current detailed instructions are not reproduced here, so use it for any up-to-date Xbox-specific guidance.
4. Verify the requirement and active profile
Read the exact requirement for the achievement and confirm that the intended Xbox profile was active when you completed it. Some achievements depend on particular in-game conditions, not just reaching a broad milestone. Retry the requirement only after checking those conditions.

Bethesda Support offers a publisher-specific example: verify the conditions, and if the achievement remains missing, sign out of the Xbox account, reboot the console, sign back in, and retry. 5. Keep save-sync problems separate
A cloud-save synchronization error and a missing achievement are different symptoms. If the console displays a save-sync prompt or error, treat that as a separate save-data decision and use Xbox’s cloud storage troubleshooting guidance. Do not delete local save data as a routine achievement-sync fix; the available guidance does not establish that as a safe or official remedy.

6. Contact the game’s support if the achievement still will not unlock
If the requirement is definitely complete, the correct profile was active, and the achievement is still absent from the online account record after reconnecting and retrying, report the problem to that game’s support team or publisher. Achievement logic may require a title-specific correction. A Microsoft Q&A response dated March 10, 2026 recommends contacting the game’s support channel or publisher after repeating the requirement; this is community guidance, and the page includes AI-generated content, rather than a formal Xbox policy. Xbox’s network status page is the place to check live service availability; an old report cannot establish that Xbox services are currently having an issue.
