1. Check whether Xbox is down
Open the Xbox Status page and look for incidents affecting account and profile services, signing in, gaming and social, Cloud Gaming, or the Store and subscriptions.

- If Microsoft reports a sign-in or account outage, wait for the incident to be resolved and try again later.
- Do not factory-reset the console or reinstall Windows during a confirmed outage.
- If the status page is clear but the same error appears on multiple devices, continue with the account checks and contact Xbox Support if necessary. Status reporting can sometimes lag behind user reports.
Xbox Support has directed users to the status page during sign-in incidents. The dedicated Xbox error-code page for 0x87DD0006 is also worth checking because its guidance and availability can vary by region.
2. Test your Microsoft account in a browser
Visit Microsoft’s account sign-in page and sign in with the account that produces the error on Xbox or in the Xbox app.
- Browser sign-in fails: the issue is probably related to the account, password, verification, recovery, lockout, or enforcement—not the console hardware.
- Browser sign-in works: continue with the device and Xbox-service troubleshooting below.
For password, username, verification-code, or account-recovery problems, use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper and account sign-in guidance. Repeatedly removing the profile or changing network settings will not repair an account that cannot authenticate online.

Restart the Xbox or Windows PC normally, then try signing in again. Also check these low-risk items:
- Set the date and time automatically.
- Confirm that the region is correct.
- Install pending Xbox, Windows, and Microsoft Store updates.
- Restart once more after an update finishes.
An incorrect clock or outdated software can interfere with authentication, but neither is a confirmed universal cause of this particular code.

Fix 0x87DD0006 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Power-cycle the console
A power cycle clears temporary system state. It is not a factory reset and does not delete games, saves, or your Microsoft account.
- Hold the physical Xbox power button for about 10 seconds, until the console shuts down.
- Unplug the power cable.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable and start the console.
- Try signing in again.
Run the Xbox network tests
Open Settings → General → Network settings. Run Test network connection. If relevant, also run Test multiplayer connection, Test NAT type, and Check network speed and statistics.

- If internet access works but Xbox services fail, an account or service-side problem is more likely.
- A strict or unavailable NAT can affect multiplayer and parties, but it is not automatically the cause of every 0x87DD0006 sign-in error.
If other devices or services on your home network are also failing, restart the modem and router. If possible, test Ethernet. A temporary mobile-hotspot test can also help: if sign-in works through the hotspot but not home broadband, investigate the router, ISP, DNS, or filtering configuration.
Do not enable port forwarding, force a particular DNS service, or change advanced router settings unless the network diagnosis specifically points there. Those steps do not fix an Xbox outage or an account problem and can create new security or compatibility issues.

- Open Profile & system → Settings → Account → Remove accounts.
- Remove the affected profile.
- Restart the console.
- Choose Profile & system → Add or switch → Add new, then sign in.
Menu wording can vary by console software version and region. Removing a profile removes it from that console; it does not delete the Microsoft account, purchases, or cloud-synchronized saves. You will need the account email address and password, and may need approval for two-factor authentication or parental-control checks.

Do this only after checking Xbox Status. It is not useful during a confirmed service outage.
Fix 0x87DD0006 in the Xbox app on Windows 10 or 11
Windows uses several Microsoft components for Xbox sign-in. A console profile-removal fix will not repair an Xbox app session, so use this separate sequence.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Windows updates.
- Open Microsoft Store and install available updates for Xbox, Gaming Services, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Identity Provider if it is listed.
- Sign out of the Xbox app and Microsoft Store, then sign back in with the intended Microsoft account.
- Confirm that the Xbox app and Microsoft Store are not using different accounts unintentionally.
Microsoft’s Xbox development documentation identifies Xbox services and Gaming Services as relevant PC components, although it is not a complete consumer repair guide.
Repair or reset the Xbox app
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Xbox, open its three-dot menu, and select Advanced options.
- Select Terminate, then Repair.
- Restart the Xbox app and test sign-in.
- If Repair fails, return to the same screen and select Reset.
Repair attempts to correct the app without clearing its local data. Reset clears the app’s local state and may require you to sign in again. Windows labels can differ slightly between releases. If the same options are available for Gaming Services, try Repair before Reset there as well.

Use advanced Gaming Services repair cautiously
Some online answers recommend PowerShell commands that remove and reinstall Gaming Services. These commands can vary by Windows version and account scope, and an AI-generated Microsoft Q&A response is not sufficient authority to present one command as universally safe.
Use Microsoft’s current Gaming Services guidance where available. Do not casually run commands containing -AllUsers, delete Windows authentication folders, or copy scripts from unofficial “Xbox repair” sites. If you reach this stage, create a restore point, use only instructions from a current Microsoft source, and stop if PowerShell reports errors. App updates, sign-out/sign-in, Repair, and Reset should come first.
Check for account enforcement only when the symptoms fit
The error code alone does not mean that your account is banned. Check Microsoft’s Xbox suspension and enforcement information if you see an enforcement notice, cannot access the account elsewhere, or have another clear sign of an account restriction.
If Microsoft shows a suspension or device ban, changing DNS, removing the profile, and switching networks will not bypass it. Follow the available review or appeal process instead.
What not to do
- Do not factory-reset first. It removes settings and creates downtime, and it cannot repair an outage or inaccessible account. If support eventually recommends a reset, consider Reset and keep my games & apps before a full wipe, and make sure saves are synchronized and credentials are available.
- Do not change DNS automatically. DNS can matter when name resolution is demonstrably failing, but it cannot repair account authentication or an Xbox outage.
- Do not forward ports as a default fix. Port forwarding is mainly a conditional networking measure, not a general solution for sign-in.
- Do not delete Microsoft system or credential folders. Old guides can break Store, Xbox, or Windows authentication and may be difficult to undo.
- Do not reinstall games or every Xbox component immediately. An account-token problem normally does not require game reinstallation.
When to contact Xbox or Microsoft Support
Stop local troubleshooting and escalate if:
- Xbox Status shows no outage but the error survives a restart and the appropriate platform steps.
- The account cannot sign in on the web, console, and Xbox app.
- You cannot re-add the profile.
- The error occurs on more than one network or device.
- The account shows an enforcement or security restriction.
- The console displays additional hardware, storage, or system errors.
- The Windows Xbox app still fails after updates, sign-out/sign-in, Repair, and Reset.
