These three Xbox codes point to different failure points, so the right fix depends on which code you see. 80159018 usually appears while downloading a profile or connecting to Xbox Live and can involve a region mismatch. 0x87DF2EE7 is associated with Xbox Live content access and trouble resolving an online resource. 876C0100 generally interrupts video playback during a temporary connection problem. Start with Xbox service status and your network connection before removing a profile or resetting the console. The procedures below apply to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Which Xbox error are you seeing?

Identify the code first. Although all three can involve connectivity, they occur at different stages and have different final recovery steps.

Error Typical trigger Likely layer First diagnostic Later recovery
80159018 Downloading an Xbox profile or connecting to Xbox Live Network service or account-region information Xbox service status, network, account region and billing details Remove the affected profile and download it again
0x87DF2EE7 Opening or using Xbox Live content Connection and resource-name resolution Network test, especially packet loss Reset console while keeping games and apps
876C0100 Watching video content Temporary video-service connection Service status, network test and console update Update the console after connection checks

The code does not by itself prove that your console hardware is defective. A service outage, a brief router failure, account-region data, or packet loss can all stop an otherwise working console from completing an online request.

What should I check before changing Xbox settings?

Use this low-risk triage order for any of the three errors. It separates a Microsoft service problem from a local network or console problem before you make changes that require signing in again.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Check Xbox service status. Open Microsoft’s Xbox status page from a phone or computer. If Microsoft lists an alert affecting sign-in, Xbox Live, content, or video services, wait for recovery and retry later. Changing console settings during an outage cannot restore the service.
  2. Retry once after a short wait. Both 0x87DF2EE7 and 876C0100 are described as potentially temporary connection errors. If the request succeeds on a second attempt, continue monitoring rather than resetting the console.
  3. Restart the modem or router. Power-cycle the network device according to its normal restart procedure, allow it to reconnect to the internet, and then try the Xbox request again. This clears a transient connection state without deleting your console profile or games.
  4. Run the Xbox network test. On the console, open Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics. Record whether the test reports packet loss or another failure before moving to account or console recovery.
  5. Temporarily disable VPN routing. If the console, router, or network uses a VPN, turn it off while testing. A VPN can make the apparent location differ from the account region and can add another route for Xbox Live traffic. Restore it only after the Xbox connection works normally.
  6. Check for a console update. This is especially important for 876C0100. Updating requires an internet connection, so complete the service and network checks first if the console cannot reach Microsoft.

Keep the code visible while testing. If a step changes the message, note the new code or symptom; that tells you which layer was blocking the original request.

How do I fix Xbox error 80159018?

80159018 is associated with downloading an Xbox profile or connecting to Xbox Live. In addition to an ordinary network or service interruption, the account’s region can conflict with the region in which you are currently using the console.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Rule out an Xbox Live or local connection problem

Follow the universal triage sequence above: check the Xbox service-status page, restart the modem or router, and run the console’s network test. If Microsoft reports an outage, wait for the alert to clear before removing a profile. If the network test fails, fix that connection first; profile removal will not repair a router or service outage.

2. Check the account region and payment details

Sign in to the Microsoft account associated with the Xbox and verify that the account region is the one you actually use. Also check the billing address and payment information. A mismatch between the account region and your current region can prevent a profile or Xbox Live session from being accepted.

If a VPN or VPN-enabled router is active, disable it while you check the account. Test from the normal local connection so the console and Microsoft account present a consistent location. Do not change the account region merely to bypass a temporary outage; first confirm that the stored region, billing address, and payment information are current.

3. Remove only the affected profile

When service is available and the account details are correct, remove the affected profile from the console. This removes the local profile copy so the console can download a fresh copy; it does not delete the Microsoft account itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Download the existing profile again

  1. From the Xbox home screen, open Profile & system.
  2. Select Add new.
  3. Enter the sign-in details for the existing Microsoft/Xbox account.
  4. Complete the prompts and retry the action that produced 80159018.

Add new re-adds an existing account. It is not an instruction to create a new Microsoft account. If the code returns immediately, stop repeating profile removal and go back to the service, region, and network checks; repeated downloads cannot overcome an unresolved outage or account mismatch.

How do I fix Xbox error 0x87DF2EE7?

0x87DF2EE7 is described as an Xbox Live content-access error. The console may be unable to resolve the requested resource name to an IP address, so the content request never reaches the service it needs.

1. Wait, retry, and check service status

Many occurrences are temporary. Wait briefly, retry the same content, and check Xbox service status before changing console data. If an alert is active, the appropriate action is to wait for Microsoft’s recovery.

2. Restart the network path

Restart the modem or router, wait until its internet connection is back, and retry. If the console uses Wi-Fi, move it temporarily closer to the access point or test from a wired connection so you can distinguish a wireless problem from an Xbox Live problem.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

3. Measure packet loss

Open Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics. The troubleshooting guidance specifically identifies packet loss above 5 percent as a reason to continue network investigation. A result above that level can interrupt resource requests even when the console reports that it is connected.

  • If packet loss is above 5 percent, restart the network device again, test the console’s placement and connection type, and repeat the test.
  • If the test reports no meaningful packet loss but the code appears, retry after confirming that Xbox services are operating.
  • If the test itself cannot complete, treat that as a network problem rather than a content-specific failure.

4. Use a wired test when Wi-Fi is uncertain

A Cat6 Ethernet cable can be used as an optional diagnostic accessory. Connect the Xbox directly to the router, run the same network test, and compare the result with Wi-Fi. The cable is a way to isolate wireless interference, router placement, or packet loss; it is not a guaranteed fix for 0x87DF2EE7.

5. Reset the console while keeping games and apps

Use this only after Xbox service is operating and the network test passes, yet 0x87DF2EE7 continues. The documented recovery path is:

  1. Open Profile & system > Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Open Console info.
  4. Choose Reset console.
  5. Select Reset and keep my games & apps.

Choose the keep-games-and-apps option exactly. It is the specified recovery choice for this code and avoids selecting a broader reset when the troubleshooting evidence calls for preserving installed games and applications. If the service is down or packet loss remains, postpone the reset until those conditions are resolved.

How do I fix Xbox error 876C0100?

876C0100 usually appears while watching video content and is generally treated as a temporary connection error. Use the same service and network checks as for 0x87DF2EE7, then make sure the console software is current.

1. Retry the video after checking the service

Check Xbox service status and wait briefly if Microsoft reports an interruption. A temporary service or connection failure can clear without any console change. Retry the same video only after the network device has reconnected.

2. Test and stabilize the connection

Restart the modem or router, then run Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics. If the test shows packet loss, resolve that issue before treating the video error as an application or account problem. A wired Cat6 test can help determine whether Wi-Fi is the unstable part of the path.

3. Update the Xbox

Microsoft’s Xbox One instructions use this path: connect the console to the internet, open Profile & system > Settings, and select System > Updates & downloads > Update console. Microsoft also states, “Make sure your console is up to date at Settings > System > Updates.” Install any available update, restart if prompted, and try the video again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the console cannot reach the update service, return to the service-status and network steps instead of repeatedly selecting the update command. An update cannot download through a failed connection.

What you observe Most useful interpretation Next action
The profile will not download or Xbox Live sign-in fails with 80159018 Account-region data, service availability, or the basic connection may be blocking profile retrieval Verify region, billing address, payment information, VPN status, service status, and network before re-adding the profile
Content fails with 0x87DF2EE7 and packet loss exceeds 5 percent The network is not reliably carrying the resource request Stabilize the connection and retest before any console reset
Content fails with 0x87DF2EE7 but the service and network test pass A temporary Xbox Live resolution problem may have persisted locally Use Reset and keep my games & apps as the later recovery step
Video playback stops with 876C0100 The video request encountered a temporary connection issue, or the console may need an update Check service, restart and test the network, then update the console

These categories are practical troubleshooting boundaries, not proof that only one component can be involved. For example, a poor connection can prevent a profile download, content resolution, or video playback. The order of checks prevents you from escalating to a disruptive step while a simpler cause is still active.

When should I remove a profile, and when should I reset the console?

Use the least invasive action that matches the code. Profile removal is specific to a failed profile download or Xbox Live connection associated with 80159018. The keep-games-and-apps reset is the documented later recovery for 0x87DF2EE7 after service and network checks pass. A console update is the targeted escalation for 876C0100.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Do not remove a profile first if Xbox service status shows an outage or the network test fails.
  • Do not reset for 0x87DF2EE7 while packet loss remains above 5 percent; the reset does not repair the network path.
  • Do not treat 876C0100 as a reason to reset immediately. Check service status, restart the network, test the connection, and update the console first.
  • Do not create a replacement account for 80159018. Use Add new to download the existing Microsoft/Xbox profile.

What common troubleshooting mistakes make these errors harder to fix?

  • Changing several variables at once: If you alter the account region, replace the router, remove the profile, and reset the console together, you lose the ability to identify the actual cause. Follow the ordered checks and retest after each meaningful change.
  • Ignoring a service alert: Local settings cannot correct a Microsoft-side outage. Record the time and retry after the alert is cleared.
  • Assuming “connected” means reliable: Xbox can have an internet connection while packet loss still prevents resource resolution or video delivery. Use the network-speed-and-statistics test rather than relying only on the console’s connection icon.
  • Leaving a VPN enabled during diagnosis: It can obscure the region presented to services and add another route for traffic. Disable it temporarily so the test reflects the normal connection.
  • Choosing the wrong reset option: For 0x87DF2EE7, the specified path is Reset and keep my games & apps. Do not select a broader reset when this documented option is available.
  • Repeating a failed profile download: If 80159018 returns after re-adding the profile, revisit service status and account-region information instead of cycling through the same sign-in attempt.

What should I do after the error disappears?

Verify the original operation rather than stopping at a successful network test. For 80159018, sign in with the re-added profile and confirm that Xbox Live features load. For 0x87DF2EE7, open the content that previously failed. For 876C0100, resume the same video and let it play long enough to confirm that playback remains stable.

If the error returns, note the exact code, the operation that triggered it, the result of Test network speed & statistics, and whether Xbox service status showed an alert. Those details distinguish a recurring local connection problem from a service or account issue and prevent unnecessary profile removals or resets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will removing my Xbox profile delete my Microsoft account?

No. The 80159018 procedure removes the affected profile from that console so it can be downloaded again. Use Profile & system > Add new to add the existing account; do not create a replacement account as a troubleshooting step.

Is a wired Ethernet connection required to fix these codes?

No. A Cat6 cable is optional and is useful as a diagnostic comparison with Wi-Fi. If the wired test works while Wi-Fi shows packet loss, the result points toward the wireless or router path rather than proving that the cable itself is the permanent solution.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I keep trying if Xbox service status shows an alert?

Wait until Microsoft reports recovery, then retry the original action. Profile removal, account-region changes, and console resets cannot restore a service that is currently unavailable.

Why can the Xbox say it is online when content still fails?

A basic connection can exist while packet loss prevents the console from resolving or reaching a requested resource. Run Test network speed & statistics; packet loss above 5 percent is a reason to continue network troubleshooting.
