It is a general invalid-parameter or update-installation error, not a diagnosis of a failed hard drive or console. Start with reversible checks: record the exact message and operation, restart the Xbox, test the network, check Xbox service status, and retry once with other downloads paused. Then compare the result with a small unrelated download. If only one game fails, treat it as a title-specific problem; if updates and downloads all fail, escalate as a broader console, network, or service issue.
What does Xbox One error 0x80070057 mean?
Microsoft uses 0x80070057 for an invalid parameter and lists it among update-installation failures. - Whether the console reaches Home, whether the network test passes, and whether another download works.

These details matter because the same code can appear in different operations. Do not assume that a code seen during one game installation has the same cause as one shown during a console update.
How do I restart an Xbox One safely?
A normal restart clears temporary state without deleting installed games or saved data. Use the power menu when the dashboard responds; use a forced shutdown only when the console is frozen.

When the console reaches Home
- Open the power menu from the Xbox dashboard.

Could an Xbox service incident be causing the error?
Check the official Xbox service-status page for incidents affecting sign-in, games, downloads, or updates. A service interruption can make a local-looking installation or authentication message appear even when your console and network are functioning normally.

How should I retry the failed operation?

Is 0x80070057 proof that the Xbox hard drive has failed?

If the installation screen lets you choose a storage location, one third-party report discusses trying the console’s primary drive when an installation to an SSD produces 0x80070057. That report does not establish a universal cure, and it does not show that every external drive or replacement drive is defective. A single controlled attempt on the primary storage can provide useful evidence; it is not a reason to buy replacement hardware immediately.

Do not infer that an accessory is necessary merely because moving an installation changes the result. Record the original target, the alternate target, and whether another download succeeds, then include those observations in a support request.
Can I use DISM or SFC to fix this on Xbox One?
No. DISM, System File Checker, PowerShell, and Windows update-service procedures are not Xbox One instructions. They apply only if the same hexadecimal code is actually appearing on a Windows PC.
If the code is on a Windows PC instead
Microsoft describes Windows 0x80070057 as “The parameter is incorrect” and recommends Windows-specific checks such as System File Checker, a clean boot, and verification of update services. Microsoft Learn also uses E_INVALIDARG for the value in package-deployment contexts. Follow the current Windows guidance for that separate incident; do not run those commands against an Xbox.

Provide a compact diagnostic record:
- The exact hexadecimal code and the complete on-screen wording.
- Console model and the operation that failed.
- Title and edition, when only one game or app is affected.
- Whether the console reached Home.
- Network-test result and the service-status result at the time.
