What the bell controls
The bell controls alerts for a channel you already subscribe to. With All notifications, YouTube says eligible long-form uploads and live streams can generate mobile, web, or inbox notifications. The setting is stronger than merely subscribing, but it still operates within YouTube’s delivery rules and your device’s notification controls.
Why the two layers matter
Think of a subscription as your saved channel list and the bell as an optional reminder system. A reminder can arrive before you remember to check, while the saved list gives you a place to look when the reminder is late, filtered, capped, or absent. Why All is the strongest alert choice

How do I set up YouTube to catch a creator’s return?
You need a signed-in YouTube account and access to the creator’s channel page or one of its videos. Complete the subscription and bell choices together, then keep the feed as your verification step.
- Open the channel or one of its videos. Use the YouTube app or the YouTube website while signed in to the account that you want to use for alerts.
- Select Subscribe. This adds the channel’s recent uploads to your Subscriptions feed.
- Open the notification bell. Choose All notifications instead of Personalized if your priority is catching every eligible long-form upload or live stream.

The upload was a Short or another activity type
All notifications covers long-form uploads and live streams, but YouTube says some Shorts notifications may still be personalized. A creator’s return consisting only of Shorts can therefore produce fewer alerts than a return with a standard video or live stream.
The channel is marked Made for Kids
Made-for-Kids channels do not provide subscriber notifications, and the bell cannot be changed for that channel. In that case, use the Subscriptions feed as your primary way to see new uploads.
