If The Sims 4 has stopped responding on a Mac, press Option-Command-Esc, select The Sims 4, then click Force Quit. If the game still responds, try Command-Q first. First check whether the game or only a Sim is stuck
If menus and controls still respond but one Sim will not move or act, reset that Sim rather than closing the entire game. EA documents the reset procedure for PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox in its stuck Sim instructions.
- Open the cheat window: press Ctrl-Shift-C on PC or Mac, L1+L2+R1+R2 together on PlayStation, or LB+LT+RB+RT together on Xbox.

If freezes keep happening
For recurring freezes, EA’s The Sims 4 crashing and freezing guidance suggests troubleshooting beyond closing the current session.
- PC: Close background apps. If the problem continues, EA suggests a clean boot, repairing the game through the EA app at Library > Manage > Repair, and limiting the frame rate or enabling V-Sync.
- Consoles: EA suggests keeping software current, unplugging USB devices, restarting, or power-cycling the console. Reinstalling is listed as a later option.
These are options for repeated freezing, not requirements for closing a one-time frozen session.
