There is no single way to unlock every character spray in Overwatch. Open the spray’s listing in the Hero Gallery—or check the relevant hero’s challenge listing—and follow the requirement shown for that specific item. Sprays have been offered through challenges and events, Battle Pass rewards, the Hero Gallery, and limited-time Twitch Drops, but an old reward route does not mean the item is available now.
How to check a spray’s unlock requirement
- Open the Hero Gallery and select the hero whose spray you want.
- Find the spray in that hero’s cosmetics and inspect its listing for an unlock requirement.
- If the listing points to a hero challenge, open the related challenge and complete the requirement displayed in-game.
Requirements vary by item. Check the current in-game listing rather than relying on an old guide, since event tasks and eligible modes can differ.

Ways sprays have been offered
Challenges and event gameplay
Challenges and limited-time events have awarded sprays. For example, Blizzard’s 2021 Ashe Deadlock Challenge included rewards for playing matches. That is a historical example, not an active event or a promise that its rewards can still be earned.

Blizzard’s launch-era overview of Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass, shop, and Hero Gallery describes sprays among cosmetic rewards and explains that some legacy cosmetics could be found in the Hero Gallery or obtained with Overwatch Coins. These are system categories, not confirmation that a particular spray is currently available or what it costs. Check the item in-game for its present availability and requirement.

Twitch Drops
When Blizzard runs an Overwatch Twitch Drops campaign, eligible streams can award sprays. Check Blizzard’s Twitch Drops instructions and FAQ for account-linking and claiming steps, and look for an active campaign before watching. In general, link your Twitch and Battle.net accounts, watch eligible streams for the campaign’s required time, then claim the reward through Twitch. Blizzard’s documented Season 3 campaign was in February and March 2023; it does not establish that a campaign is active now. The 2021 Ashe event also included a Twitch spray Drop, but that offer was time-limited.
A spray Drop can be earned even if you have not unlocked the associated hero. Blizzard notes that you cannot access that cosmetic until you unlock the hero.

How to tell whether a particular spray is still obtainable
- Check the current listing: the Hero Gallery or relevant challenge screen is the best place to see the requirement attached to that item.
- Check whether the route is active: event challenges and Twitch Drops are time-limited. A past event page proves the reward existed, not that it is available today.
- Identify the kind of requirement: it may involve gameplay, a Battle Pass tier, a Hero Gallery option, or an external campaign. Do not assume one route applies to every spray.
- For a Twitch reward, check hero access: earning the Drop and being able to equip the spray are separate; the associated hero must be unlocked to access it.
