The classic look is officially called the Kyle Crane Legacy Outfit (also called the Legacy Skin). Techland’s published post-launch instructions say it is granted automatically to players who pre-ordered Dying Light: The Beast after updating the game to version 1.2.2. Check the in-game stash to claim it; the stash opens during the second quest, Safe Haven.
How to get the Kyle Crane Legacy Outfit
- Check your eligibility. Techland’s delivery announcement names pre-order status as the requirement for the automatic grant. It must be the platform account you use to play. Techland’s announcement, dated 26 September 2025, says the update grants the skin from the server to players who pre-ordered.
- Update the game to version 1.2.2 or later. The Legacy Skin server grant was announced with version 1.2.2.
- Open your in-game stash. If you are early in the campaign, progress through the second quest, Safe Haven, where the stash becomes available.
- Check again if it is missing. The grant may not appear immediately; Techland says it should arrive shortly. If it remains missing, contact Techland Support. Techland does not publish a universal delivery delay or a specific troubleshooting checklist for this outfit.
Can you get it without pre-ordering?
Techland’s published delivery instructions specify pre-orders for the automatic Legacy Skin grant. Its pre-launch post described the outfit as a gift for people already with the community and those who joined before launch, but the later post-launch instructions give the clearest practical eligibility rule. The official announcements do not confirm a current alternate unlock through the store, an edition upgrade, an event, Outpost, or progression. That means an alternative route is unconfirmed; it does not establish a permanent exclusion for non-preorder players.

Legacy Outfit vs. Vanguard Outfit
Kyle Crane’s Vanguard Outfit is a separate outfit, not another name for the classic Legacy look. Techland’s 1 December 2025 update article identifies Vanguard as an outfit available through Legend Levels. The Legacy Outfit is the pre-order entitlement described in the 26 September 2025 delivery announcement.

“Classic Outfit” is a useful informal description, but Techland uses the names Kyle Crane Legacy Outfit and Kyle Crane Legacy Skin. The company says the look is inspired by Kyle Crane’s iconic appearance in the original Dying Light. Techland’s pre-launch post introduces the Legacy Outfit, while its later delivery post explains how eligible players receive it.
